//------------------------------// // Nothing else to do, but cry // Story: Butterflies and Rainbows // by FlutterDash777 //------------------------------// -Nothing else to do, but cry Rarity was cleaning up her boutique. Picking up some mess that Sweetie Belle obviously made with her friends. "I don't know what to do with that filly. I wish Fluttershy could babysit her more often." Rarity, with her tidy self, made sure every little nook and cranny was in order before she left. She had promised to stop by Sweet Apple Acres and help Applejack with something. As she was starting out the door she stopped once more to check her mane. "So lovely, Rarity. You sure know how to make a pony look classy!" Rarity amused herself with her own flattery. She put on a beautiful smile and left her home. Applejack was pacing around the barn. "Now where on earth is that pony?" Applejack stopped her pacing, and looked up past the apple orchard. Rarity was making her way over to Applejack. Smiling widely, and prancing gracefully. "Hello, my dear Applejack! I hope I didn't keep you waiting too awful long." Rarity batted her eyes in a teasing way, looking down at the small rut Applejack was unknowingly creating. Applejack looked down, and started to pile dirt back into the small indent. "Oh, ah wasn't waitin' too long. Ah just was--" "Oh never mind that, Applejack. What was it you needed me to do?" Rarity smiled at Applejack. Applejack, lost in Rarity's eyes, started to think. 'Now, why did ah invite her? Um. Oh darn.' "Applejack? Are you okay?" Rarity looked concerned for her friend. Applejack then realized what she needed. "Oh, yeah Ah'm alright! Ahaha! I just needed your help with something. Something urgent!" Rarity waited for Applejack to finish. "Ah went to go see Rainbow Dash earlier today..." Applejack stopped. "And?" Rarity tried to get Applejack to spit out what she was trying to say. "And she didn't look too good. Ah found her under a tree. She was......Rainbow Dash was crying!" Rarity widened her eyes. 'Crying? Rainbow Dash was crying?', Rarity thought. "Ah didn't disturb her. Ah didn't want to startle her. Ah'm sure she didn't want anypony to see her like that anyways. Ah'm just so concerned for her. Ah thought maybe you could.....talk to her, maybe?" Rarity's face was gleaming. She wasn't sure why Applejack thought she was the pony for the job, but she accepted the request and set out on her way to find Rainbow Dash. The birds were not singing, the clouds were darker then usual, and Celestia's sun seemed to shine on everything but Rainbow Dash. She was laying down in the same place she had been laying ever since yesterday. Her eyes were puffy and swollen. Her blue coat seemed to have less of a glow. Rainbow Dash looked awful. She could barley open her eyes. She couldn't find herself to speak. She could hardly even think. 'Why am i so upset about this? It's not like.....she would ever like me anyways. I should have known that. So why am I acting this way?' Rainbow Dash rubbed her eyes with her hoof, and tried her hardest to stand. Her legs were wobbly, and it was hard for her to get up. She tried to regain her balance as she started to walk away. 'All I have to do is act like nothing's wrong. Nopony will even know what happened yesterday.' Rainbow tried to comfort herself. 'Unless.....Fluttershy tells somepony!' Rainbow started to feel nauseous again, and she found herself tearing up. "God, Rainbow. You're such an idiot. Fluttershy will probably never speak to you again!" Rainbow winced at the thought of losing Fluttershy as her friend. "Fluttershy has been so close to me for so long. Maybe....Is that why I'm feeling this way towards her?" Rainbow's heart was beating at a fast rate. She started to get chills down her spine and through her wings. Love. "Do I love Fluttershy?" Rainbow's head was spinning. Her thoughts were killing her. She didn't know what to do. Rarity listened in shock. From a distance she heard Rainbow Dash talk to herself. "In love? With Fluttershy?!" Rarity was taken aback. She wasn't repulsed, but heartbroken for her friend. 'Fluttershy must have rejected Rainbow Dash. Oh how terrible. Out of all the worst things that could happen, this is the worst possible thing!' Rarity wanted to comfort her friend, but knowing Rainbow Dash, it would probably only make matters worse. Rarity took her leave and headed into town. Fluttershy tried her best to keep on a smile as she walked into Sugar Cube Corner. She was greeted by a very pink, very familiar face. "Hiya there Fluttershy! Can I get you something? Anything? Want a cupcake? Want to go do something fun? Have anything fun planned that I can join in on? Huh? Huh? Huh?" Pinkie Pie, bouncing off the walls as usual, bombarded Fluttershy with her hyper self. "Oh Pinkie Pie, I just came in for a visit. You see, I'm not feeling myself today. I thought seeing a friendly face would cheer me up." Fluttershy put her head down slightly. Pinkie Pie immediately jumped back. "Oh no! Are you sick? Poor Fluttershy!" Pinkie Pie hopped around searching for something. She returned with a slice of cake and shoved it in Fluttershy's hoofs. "Here! Eat up! Cake always makes me feel better!" Pinkie Pie smiled as big as she could. She waited for Fluttershy to take a bite, but Fluttershy set down the cake she was offered. "I'm sorry Pinke, but my stomach doesn't feel up to eating right now. Thank you for everything though." Pinkie's smile started to fade. 'That yummy delicious cake was turned down? Awe!' "I hope you get better, Fluttershy! Really really soon! So we can go play, and have loads of fun together!" Pinkie's face brightened up once again. Fluttershy thanked Pinkie again for cheering her up, and she walked out of the cafe. "Hm. I do wonder what is wrong with Fluttershy." Pinkie's concerned expression didn't last long as she turned towards the rejected cake. "Now it's time for me to eat!" Trudging out of the cafe, Fluttershy's smile faded. Pinkie was a great friend, but even her, as rambunctious as she is could not make Fluttershy's spirits lift. Fluttershy was completely heartbroken. 'I hurt my most dearest friend. I know i did. She said it wasn't a big deal. But I could tell in her voice that she was lying through her teeth.' Fluttershy had never felt this low before. She had never felt the feeling of depression. But she was now certain that this must be what it feels like. Her head low. Her hoofs heavy and dragging, she made her way to the center of the town. As she continued to walk, she suddenly came to a stop when she heard Rarity from behind calling for her. "Fluttershy! Oh Fluttershy! I need to speak to you!" Rarity was galloping her way over to where the frozen stiff Fluttershy was standing. Fluttershy lifted her head just enough to look Rarity in the eyes. "Fluttershy can you come with me to my boutique? I need to ask you something very important." Rarity noticed the draining look on Fluttershy's face. She was starting to worry for Fluttershy as well. Fluttershy agreed to go with Rarity, and they set off for the boutique. At their arrival, Rarity opened the door to her shop. She walked in, and Fluttershy followed. "Would you like something to drink, Fluttershy?" Rarity thought a cup of tea might put everypony at ease. But Fluttershy refused Rarity's offer, and Rarity started to feel the akwardness. She was afraid to ask Fluttershy about what happened between her and Rainbow Dash, but she knew, as a good friend she needed to do this. "So, Fluttershy, the reason i brought you here is because, well I have a question. A very urgent question." Rarity waited for Fluttershy to respond. She noticed that she had Fluttershy's full attention, so she continued. "Well I....Me and Applejack were wondering what was wrong with Rainbow Dash. Applejack said she saw Rainbow Dash....crying. So I set off to find her, and try to figure out what was going on. Well when I saw her, she was saying something to herself. She was saying something about---" "It's okay, Rarity. You don't have to continue. I already know." Fluttershy's uneasiness got the better of her. She didn't want to know what Rainbow Dash said. She was afraid to know. "You see Fluttershy, I asked you to come here so you could tell me......what happened with you two?" Rarity's gleaming eyes stared right into Fluttershy's. Fluttershy looked down at the flooring. She didn't know what to tell Rarity. She stayed silent. "Fluttershy, you need to tell me. I can help you." Fluttershy looked up into Rarity's blue eyes. Rarity immediately ran towards Fluttershy and embraced her. Fluttershy was wailing. She didn't know anything else to do, but cry.
