//------------------------------// // The Last of the Valkyries // Story: Flight of the Valkyries // by Prisoner 24601 //------------------------------// "Oh, Rise through the sky, On beautiful amber wings. Light the sky on fire, With the jealousy you bring. Rise through the sky, Let your will shine through, And they'll come to accept you, Oh, young Scootaloo. For you, my filly, Are different from the rest. You can rise through the ranks, And prove that you are best. Rise through the sky, They know not who you are, But I know clear, A Valkyrie, you are. Ooooohhhhh. Ooohh." Scootaloo was being cradled in her mother's hooves as she sat in front of the fireplace. She had just finished a remedial rhyme that she sang her daughter every night. She wanted her to grow up knowing the truth. That she would never be like everypony else. She'd always be a standout. A sore thumb. But her mother knew that no matter how long it does take, she will learn to fly. It would come naturally. It always did in the Valkyries. She knew that Scootaloo, after years of ridicule and exclusion, would spout Valkryie wings like her mother's, and take to the skies. She would become the fastest, most skilled flyer in Equestria, before she even needed to practice. Her wings would stretch across the sky like the sun and moon. She would captivate her friends, and even her enemies. She would finally become accepted into society. Her mother looked down at her baby, covered by a blanket. All she saw was a few brilliant embers shining upon her glistening amber coat and purple hair. Her wings would be so beautiful. Just like her mother's. Wings resembling that of a Princess, though contributing no size improvements to the Valkyrie herself. They would match her coat, but shine five times brighter. They would spout right when a Valkyrie loses their last friends. Then they would spring from the Valkyrie's body like a horn on a Unicorn. They would create a wonderous glow, a huge flash, and then poof! Wings. Right at this moment, there came a knock on the door. Scootaloo's mother, Vespa, gently lay her child on the chair she was sitting in, tucked under a blanket. She got up, and hovered over to the door. Her red coat was somehow amplified in the firelight. As Vespa opened the door, the room was covered in bright lights. She heard shouts from an unknown stallion. He demanded money. Vespa denied. She tried to close the door, but the stallion had already stuck a light grey hoof between the it and the wall. He swung it back open again, and shouted again for money. Vespa again denied. She tried slamming the door, and managed to close it. That is, until the stalion brought down the door with a magical explosion. He demanded money a third and final time. At this point, Scootaloo was quietly sobbing under her blanket. She was a scared baby, what else was she to do. Vespa denied. At this, the stallion grabbed Vespa by the back hooves using magic, and dragged her out the door. He reassembled the shattered door, and all Scootaloo could hear were the moans and cries of her mother as the Stallion did unspeakable things to her. Then there was one last moan. One last scream. And then the sound of hooves galloping away. Scootaloo was crying now. She was even more afraid as before. Her mother had just been mugged! Scootaloo lay there, under that blanket, for a few hours, until a police squad and an ambulance showed up. The police searched the home, and found little baby Scootaloo, still crying her eyes out. Which she had. She was sobbing and whining, but no tears came from her eyes. The blanket was soaked. They took her from the home, and sent her to a Foster Home. Later, Vespa was taken to the hospital. She was bady hurt. Her back hooves bruised and beaten, and many bones broken. It was a brutal attack. So brutal, in fact, that the doctors could do nothing more to help her. She died of her wounds the next morning. And that was the end of it. That was the end of the Valkyrie bloodline. Except for little baby Scootaloo. The last Valkyrie. Now, you probably need some explanation. You see, the Valkyries are not necessarily ponies. They are heavenly beings that resemble ponies, but with inane flying skills. they could take to the skies for the first time, and automatically become a pro. except there was one little loophole: For a Valkyries wings to form, they must lose every friend they had. This was tradition. Valkyries showed up in Equestria only a few days after it was discovered and claimed. The Valkyries were the original natives, who were placed here in Equestria by circumstance, when the world was in it's infancy. There were no mountains, no trees, and no clouds in the sky. At this time, the Valkyries were not the only inhabitants. There were also the Behemoths, huge lumbering creatures with two heads, and the Sayges, magical beings from the same heavenly body as the Valkyries. The Valkyries put the clouds in the sky, and the wind in the air, the Behemoths put dirt on the ground and trees in the woods, and the Sayges brought the mountains from beneath the surface, and gems from within them. This three-way republic went well for only so long, when the Behemoths and the Sayges got into a civil war. Thankfully to the Valkyries, the war left Equestria, or in that time, Avalon, and went towards the Dragonlands and Changeling hive. They left the Valkyries alone, who now only wanted companionship. They grasiously allowed the Earth Ponies and Unicorns to inhabit, but they knew nothing of Commander Hurricane, who had already begun the return journey to bring back her people. Private Panzi couldn't be bothered to meet the Valkyries. She was only cowering in the Whendigo Cave. However, eventually Valkaries became the envy of the Pegasi, an up-and-coming new race of ponies also blessed with the ability to fly. The Pegasi rebelled. The Valkyries were unaccepted in society. They were executed, banished, and even hunted. Almost every Valkyrie that populated Equestria was either killed or driven to some faraway foriegn country. However, a stallion Valkyrie still remained in Equestria, under a disguise spell cast by his love. His name was Harley. Harley Davidson, to be exact. He lived in Equestria disguised for years. When he was finally uncovered for his true identity, he was not killed or banished; he was praised. He became a symbol of the Valkyrie Civil Rights Movement. His son, Hog, continued on his legacy. By Hog's death, Valkyries had earned their freedom to live in Equestria, but many didn't return. They thought it was all a ploy by the Equestrian government to wipe them out once and for all. Hog carried on his life in Equestria without ridicule. He married a unicorn and had a daughter: Vespa. She lived her life, too, and after a night in Las Pegasus, there was Scootaloo, named after Vespa's great grandfather, Scooter, and Scootaloo's father, Hullabaloo. And then there was that night when she was mugged. And Scoots was taken into custody. And the Valkyrie bloodline was brought down to it's last member: Scootaloo.
