Chapter Forty Five

Derpy

“So where did you go the other night?” Bon Bon asked as Lyra, myself and her relaxed on the beach. The baking Sunset and I did this morning went fairly well, though it did end up with us both being covered in flour and laughing on the floor.

“For a late night beach walk!” Lyra said she made eye contact with me. None of us really liked lying to our friends, but hopefully they understand. Bon Bon lifted her sunglasses and gazed at Lyra as she adjusted the bandanna in her hair.

“Uh huh,” Bon Bon said unconvincingly. “And I take it Derpy was with you?”

“Yeah,” I sighed and gave a thumbs up. “I needed some uh relationship advice! I’ve been inadequate I guess compared to Sunset!” My eyes looked around as I weakly smiled and hoped she didn’t see through my lie.

“Okay,” Bon Bon shrugged as she dropped her sunglasses back over her eyes and laid back down on the sand. I’ve known Bon Bon for the past four, five years and I’ve never seen her showing so much skin before.

“Looking good Bon Bon,” I said sheepishly as I stretched. “Never seen you in a bikini before.”

“Thanks,” Bon Bon smiled faintly as she blushed. “Why don’t you wear one?”

“Oh uh I don’t really like my body,” I said quietly as Lyra groaned. “You should have seen when I took my clothes off in front of Sunset for the first time. It took her hours to convince me nothing was wrong with my body. I’m surprised I’m even wearing shorts right now.”

“Don’t let Sunset hear you say that,” Lyra warned from my left. “You know how she is about your self deprecating talk. I swear, you and Sunset are so similar with your depressive phases and self hatred. It just comes and goes with you two.”

“Lyra!” Bon Bon growled as she glared at her. “I don’t think that’s helping. Derpy, I know I never curse but forgive me. Fuck what people think.” Lyra and I stared in shock at her. Bon Bon almost never curses.

“God I’m rubbing off on you,” Lyra muttered in disbelief as she placed her hands behind her head. “You’re gonna be a mini me in a few years.”

“Oh god,” Bon Bon gasped dramatically. “A mini Lyra would end the world.” I burst out laughing as Lyra glared at us.

“Shut up you two.”

“You know Sunset hates her body sometimes too, right?” Lyra asked after out laughing ended. I choked on air as I stared at her.

“Wait really? Sunset is like perfect!” I exclaimed in disbelief. She was gorgeous, strong and kind hearted.

“She does have the scars from where her wings were,” Bon Bon reminded me as we all collectively shuddered. That night had been the most scared I think I’ve ever been other than the changelings. At least Sunset never bullied me when she was a bully. She was almost protective of me in a way, even back then.

“I have to go!” I exclaimed as I stood up. I started to run off to find Sunset.

“Hey! Where are you going?” Lyra shouted at me.

“To find Sunset and tell her she has a nice body!”

I faintly made out Lyra and Bon Bon facepalming with smirks.

I glanced around as I looked for Sunset. I spotted her red hair as she leaned against the main cabin that held Gloriosa’s office as she grimaced before jogging down the steps and bumped into Flash Sentry as I narrowed my eyes.

Nothing against him but I didn’t really trust Flash, given his past with Sunset and dating. I may have skipped my anxiety meds this past week. I mean, I’ve been doing well without them so I can skip them for a week or so.

“Looking for my ear ring!” Sunset exclaimed and I raised an eyebrow. Sunset didn’t wear ear rings unless we were on a date. She hastily grabbed something off the ground and shoved it in her pocket. “Found it!”

“Have you heard from Twilight recently?” Flash asked hopefully and I felt a pang of sympathy.

“Sorry to say this Flash but Twilight is a princess in Equestria,” Sunset hesitantly placed a hand on his shoulder. “She can’t really come back and forth. I’m sorry to say but nothing will happen between you two. She’s dating Adagio.”

“You don’t pull any punches do you?” Flash asked as Sunset removed her hand and gently punched his shoulder.

“Not really my style,” Sunset chuckled as she smiled at me before strolling away. I walked up and patted Flash’s shoulder as he sighed and I clenched my hand around his shoulder.

“Ow Derpy that hurts!” Flash yelped as Sunset paused and looked back worriedly.

“I heard that sigh,” I said quietly and threateningly. “Sunset is my girlfriend. Don’t get any ideas.” Flash gave me a confused look as I heard footsteps running up.

“Derpy?”

I looked up at Sunset’s concerned face as my eyes widened. I hastily let go of Flash’s should and took off to my tent. Okay, maybe I do need my anxiety meds after all.

“Derpy?” Sunset grabbed me as I quit looking for my meds. “What are you looking for?”

“My meds,” I admitted sheepishly. I didn’t know she had followed me. “I may have quit taking them because I was doing so well without them until I hurt Flash. I can’t find them.”

“Wait here,” Sunset instructed as she walked out. I sat down miserably as Raindrops gave me a confused look. Sunset quickly returned and gave a medicine bottle a shake. “You asked me to pack them for you about three weeks before we left in case you forgot. They’re cut up like how you prefer.”

Sunset twisted it open and poured two halves into my palm and I swallowed them as Raindrops tossed me a water bottle as we gave her a grateful look and I drank the water.

“I’m so needy,” I muttered under my breath.

“You realize I’m needy too?” Sunset pointed out as she sat next to me. “You helped me after I had nightmares of me becoming a demon, the changelings and more. And my random panic attacks. And my random angry outbursts. I’d say you’ve helped me more in all honestly.” I sighed and rubbed my cheek against Sunset’s as she quickly returned the gesture.

“Oh lord what would I do without you?” I muttered as we hugged. Sunset rolled her eyes as she pressed a hand against my chest and I blushed slightly.

“I think the real question is what would I do without you, Derpy.”

We sat like this for a while till I remembered what I needed to tell Sunset.

“Hey Sunset?”

“Mhm?” Sunset mumbled into my neck.

“You have a nice body.”

We burst out laughing as I faintly made out Raindrops snickering. We fell backwards on the bed as I pulled the blanket on top of us as we fell asleep.
