//------------------------------// // Chapter Thirty Four // Story: Save The World, Duh! // by TheKing2001 //------------------------------// Sunset I leaned back on the couch as it threatened to swallow me. My dog jumped on me and I idly stroked it’s fur as Mom and I watched a movie. “What are we even watching?” I asked as my dog licked my face and I grimaced. I already had a shower early this morning, I don’t need another. “I’m not entirely sure,” Mom admitted with a sheepish look. “Something Minuette dropped off. Think it’s a old movie her dad liked. John Wayne or someone.” We watched quietly as I tossed some popcorn into my mouth. I don’t even really understand what I’m watching and frankly, I don’t think mom does either. We just randomly found the disc already in the dvd player and was like screw it. “Why exactly aren’t we in school?” I asked curiously as I glanced upstairs at the noise of Diamond and Apple Bloom arguing about God knows what. “It’s Labor Day,” Mom said simply as she drank from her water glass. I straightened up as my eyes widened. “Wait here!” I exclaimed as I stood up and grabbed my keys off the wall where we hang them up. “Where are you going? The movie isn’t over,” Mom pointed out in confusion. I opened the door and glanced back at her. “I’ll tell you later. Pause the movie for me. Oh and tell me what happened. Also get Aunt Berry to meet us at Applebees,” I shut the door before Mom could speak and I ran to my car. I walked up and down the different stores of the mall with a bouquet held tightly in one arm as I stepped into a book store. I completely forgot it was Labor Day and I assume it’s like mothers day. “Why do you have bouquets of flowers in a book store?” I jumped slightly and looked at Lightning standing in front of Lyra, Rainbow and Bon Bon. “They’re a gift for Mom and Aunt Berry,” I explained as I picked up a book. “Uh why?” Lyra asked as they followed me to the register and I handed the book to the bored looking kid. “It’s not Cheerilees birthday and mothers day is passed. Remember, I helped you decorate the house for Mothers Day.” “It’s Labor Day so I assume it’s for mothers that like gave birth and shit,” I answered as Bon Bon bit her lip. “So I’m getting them stuff. What are you guys getting your moms?” The four looked at each other and burst out laughing as I gave them confused looks. Rainbow wiped her eyes as she slowed down laughing. “You actually think that’s what Labor Day means?” Rainbow asked with a grin as Bon Bon continued laughing. “Well duh,” I rolled my eyes as Lyra started laughing harder and leaned against the register as I paid for my book. “I’d love to stay and chat but I have a restaurant to get to.” “Pfft,” Rainbow slapped a hand over her mouth as Lightning sucked a breath in. “Do you think we should tell her?” Lightning asked with a smirk. “Tell me what?” I asked and tilted my head to the side as Rainbow used Bon Bon to keep herself up “Nope we shouldn’t,” Lyra giggled as I rolled my eyes. “She will figure it out tonight.” “Figure out what?” I demanded as I lost a bit of my already thin patience. The four girls burst out laughing again and laid on their backs as the guy behind the register smirked faintly. “Okay then.” “Bye Sunset!” Bon Bon called out as she pushed her self up. I sat quietly at my table as I waited for Mom and Aunt Berry to join me. I smoothed down my orange and red dress with a grin. I had to sneak into the house to put the damn thing on. Scootaloo, Silver and Diamond had asked me why I was dressing up and oddly laughed like my four other friends did. “I feel underdressed,” Aunt Berry whispered as I took in her white shirt and jeans before glancing at moms black dress. “Hey Sunset.” “Hey,” I said and shoved the flowers at them as they gave each other confused looks and sat across from me. “What’s with the flowers?” Mom asked as she examined them. “It’s not my birthday until a few more months and it’s not mothers day.” “It’s for Labor Day,” I explained. “Even though you didn’t you know, give birth to me and stuff, you’re still my mom. I have a few hundred fans, with the bands and stuff but I’m your biggest fan.” I leaned across the table and tapped moms chest for emphasis. Aunt Berry choked on her water as Mom laughed. “You actually think Labor Day is for like moms?” Aunt Berry asked after she swallowed her water. “Sunset, it’s for workers. Like grocery stores and fire fighters and a bunch of other people.” “Oh.” “I appreciate the gesture,” Mom snickered as she pushed herself off the table. “Really, I do. But you didn’t have to do all this.” “Now I know why Rainbow, the others and my sisters were laughing,” I grumbled with a bright red face. “I’ll never live this down.” “Probably not for a while,” Aunt Berry snickered with a smirk. “But hey, Applebees is a nice place. And you did go crazy on mothers day for us both even if I’m not your mom.” “True,” I mused as I gazed at the menu in front of me. I had taken the liberty of ordering us all waters. “After this, we can come home and watch movies. We do have that John Wayne movie for finish,” Mom chuckled as Aunt Berry laughed. “You guys actually are watching that? Wow. We didn’t expect that.” “Yeah we got curious,” I admitted as a waiter started approaching us. “No offense to Aunt Minuette or Aunt Cherry, but John Wayne is the worst. The graphics aren’t good but spending time with mom is worth it.” Aunt Berry burst out laughing again as she glanced at her menu. “I’ll be sure to keep your secret.” I gave a grateful nod as we ordered. It was nice just the three of us. I should have invited Aunt Minuette and Aunt Cherry.
