Chapter Five

Starlight

With a yawn, I kicked the blanket off me and clambered out of bed onto the floor before picking up my blankets in my magic and neatly making my bed. Twilight may or may not be a neat freak influence on me and it honestly scared me a bit. I never really cared for neatness before till now.

Satisfied, I trotted to the door of my room and straightened my sign that had an equal sign crossed out next to the door. I opened the door and walked through it, gently shutting it so I didn’t wake the sleeping ponies in the rooms next to mine.

I quietly trotted down the hall to the stairs, following them to the library. Sunset was surprisingly at a table in the library, reading a book. Derpy sat on the floor next to her reading a book on plants.

“You’re up early,” I yawned as I rubbed a eye.

“It’s only seven am,” Sunset answered as I glanced out the window to confirm it. “Derpy usually wakes me up this early.”

“Best time for muffins is early in the morning,” Derpy stated as she closed her book. “It’s habit for me at this point to get up super early.”

Sounded like me. I preferred getting up early whereas Trixie hated early mornings. I’ve quickly learned to not wake her up unless the wagon is on fire and even then she told me to let her burn.

“So ready to go get breakfast?” Sunset asked me as she brushed some of her mane out of her eyes in an attempt to get it back to her normal style.

“Yeah,” I answered with a smile. “Luckily the place isn’t too far from the castle. It’s mostly run by Berry Punch in the mornings because her bar isn’t open this early.”

“Huh interesting,” Sunset mused as she and Derpy joined me at the door. I opened it and we trotted down the steps as I closed it gently behind us. “I didn’t see Aunt Berry as the type to run a coffee shop.”

“Me neither,” Derpy admitted as I inhaled contently. I could faintly make out some of the early ponies setting up their stands in the market. Applejack and Big Mac, Golden Harvest along with Strawberry Sunrise and Cherry Berry setting up her sisters berry stand.

“It’s such a different environment here,” Sunset said with a smile as we continued our slow trot. “Back home, it’s always so busy. You never see people putting up stands like this.”

“Unless it’s a farmers market,” Derpy added as we approached a small business. I opened the door with a hoof and nodded at them. “Oh, thanks.”

“You’re welcome,” I said as I followed them to the counter. A mulberry colored mare was leaning against and smiled at us. I had hated Berry Punch along with Bon Bon, Golden Harvest, Daisy, Raindrops, Cherry Berry and Shoeshine for a bit for being mean to Trixie until they apologized at least. We had a somewhat friendly relationship now.

“Hey Starlight!” Berry Punch said warmly as she got three coffee cups down. “Good morning. Brought a friend and Derpy?”

“This is Sunset Shimmer,” I introduced the two.

“Nice to meet ya,” Berry nodded at Sunset. “How do you want your coffee?”

“Oh uh fifty coffee, fifty creamer please,” Sunset answered after a moment.

“And you?” Berry turned to Derpy quizzically.

“I’ll just take a green tea if you got any,” Derpy said as Berry nodded.

“I’ll just take my usual along with a plate of blueberry muffins. A strawberry donut for me too please,” I waved a hoof as Berry nodded again.

“You got it,” Berry said as she disappeared behind a door with her tail flicking behind her. I could make out Bon Bon at a nearby table with Junebug and Octavia.

“So what’s on your mind?” Sunset asked me curiously as Berry quickly returned with our coffees and breakfast balanced expertly on her back. She quietly placed the coffees and muffins in front as disappeared again.

“So I wanted to apologize for stealing your cutie mark all those months ago and I hope we can be friends one day,” I said hopefully with a faint smile. Sunset and Derpy gave me confused looks before Sunset snickered.

“I thought we already were friends in all honestly,” Sunset laughed as she levitated a muffin to her mouth. “Water under the bridge Starlight. Don’t worry about it.”

“Really?” I asked in surprise as Derpy nodded with a smile. “Just like that?”

“Sunset and I are about forgiveness,” Derpy explained as she sipped her tea. “I’ve already forgiven you.”

“I have a feeling that’s not all you wanted to tell us, now is it?” Sunset asked casually. I sighed a took and a breath.

“Were you two friends before you became marefriends?” I asked cautiously as Sunset gave me a curious look.

“Yeah,” Sunset answered after a moment. “Why?”

“Did your guys friendship change much at all?” I asked nervously.

“No not really,” Derpy said as she shook her head. “Only thing that changed was I sleep in the same bed with her when I spend the night and we go on dates a lot more. Plus we are pretty affectionate.”

“Why?” Sunset asked again as she made eye contact with me.

“I may or may not like a friend,” I admitted nervously as I sipped my coffee.

“Twilight?” Sunset asked with a mischievous smirk. “Adagio has laid claim to her.” I choked on my coffee as Berry chuckled from the far end of the counter.

“No Trixie,” I admitted nervously.

“I wasn’t expecting that one,” Sunset admitted after a moment of silence. “I expected Twilight.”

“I get that a lot,” I chuckled.

“And you came to us because we’re the only two you know who are girls and dating each other right?” Sunset asked with a knowing look. I gave a sheepish nod. “Well does Trixie know?”

“No,” I admitted as I stirred a spoon in my coffee. “I was afraid she’d abandon me.”

“Well first off tell her,” Derpy instructed. “If she’s anything like the Trixie we know, she won’t abandon you. Honesty is important.”

“That’s what I told her,” Berry quipped as she continued wiping the counter top next to us. “She almost did before short circuiting.”

“Thanks for that,” I grumbled as I drank from my cup. “You were right, I’ll give you that.”

“You’re welcome,” Berry said with a grin as she leaned on the bartop. “Maybe finally you two get together.”

“We will help you two,” Derpy announced with a grin.

“Wait both of you?” I asked in surprise. I only expected advice, not help.

“Mhm!” Sunset agreed eagerly. “Now let’s finish our breakfast. The others are probably wondering where we are.”

Berry gave me a wink as I nodded sheepishly and bit into a muffin.
