Sky and Romance

Rarity couldn't resist smiling at her Boutique. For once she had no orders pending so today was free and she could do whatever she wanted. Tapping her hoof to her bottom lip she kept trying to think of something to do. She had on the Fire Heart Ruby necklace; clients seemed to enjoy seeing it.

As fate would have it a knock came from her front door. It was nothing out of the ordinary for her. It did pull her out of her thoughts. "Another client out of the blue perhaps." Rarity said to herself and then used her usual reply. "Just a moment darling." She said and trotted for the door. Summoning her magic she opened the door and found no pony on the other side. "Now I'm certain I heard a knock." She said and then felt a gust of wind blow in through the door. Glancing up she found Spike hovering in the air. His larger form and practice had made him an amazing flyer.

Spike landed in front of Rarity lifting his head he kept his wings open. "I couldn't resist having a little fun."

"I can see...wh...that darling." Rarity recovered her near-fumble and felt her heart skip a beat. It was just the sight of him that did it.

"I hope you have the day off," Spike asked crossing his claws behind his back.

"As a matter of fact, darling. It just so happens that I do." Whatever are you planning Spikey?

His emerald gaze moved to her necklace.

Rarity felt her cheeks redden a little. "Customers seem to like it."

Spike lifted an eyebrow. "And here I thought it was for something else."

Rarity caught the grin on his face. "Oh really, and what pray tell would that be?" She took a step towards him. He was slightly taller than an average pony now, and stronger than ever and she could tell that he was blushing now she always enjoyed teasing him.

Spike cleared his throat. "Come on a flight with me."

Rarity could see the grins from other ponies who happened to trot by. She knew about the crush he's had on her and so did practically every pony in Ponyville. If I went it wouldn't be like I was acknowledging... She came to the conclusion that it was the thought of flying overhead that had her heart racing. "And then you’ll tell me? You won't drop me, will you?" Rarity found herself asked before she realized it.

"Yes. I wouldn't want to lose you that way." Spike replied standing up, on two legs any pony would half to look up at him.

Rarity smiled at that and walked over to him she could feel her face flushing a bit. "Won't I be cold?"

"Not with my body heat," Spike said picking up Rarity in his arms. She rolled over so she was belly up and facing him.

Rarity could feel the heat from the fire in his chest. He wasn't exaggerating. I'd never need a blanket again- She paused when she realized what she was thinking. It's just the excitement- Her thoughts were interrupted when Spike with a few beats of his powerful wing carried them into the sky. Glancing down she could see the whole of Ponyville from so high up. “So is this what it’s like for you?” Rarity could feel a thumping sound near her ears and realized that it wasn’t her heart beating that she was feeling.

“Seeing Ponyville from this high? Yeah.” Spike replied he kept his arms wrapped around Rarity.

“Um…darling, are you nervous? Your heart, I can feel it.” Rarity glanced up at him and could see his cheeks were a little red.

He straightened his wings out so he could just glide along with the wind. The downside of holding someone so close to your heart. “Yeah, I am Rarity.” He wasn’t about to deny it.

“Whatever for darling.”

Spike glanced down and caught a slight grin on her lips. Glancing back up he was glad there weren’t any trees around them. “Um…well…” This was your idea, so you could tell her. Spike’s inner voice reminded him.

“Would this flight have something to do with the crush you’ve had on me?” Rarity could feel his muscles tighten up around her.

“And what about the fire heart ruby you have on?” Spike countered knowing he’d been caught.

“Spikey, I was telling you the truth, that customers like the ruby.”

Spike leaned down and touched his nose to hers. “Rarity I know you and you’ve figured out why I gave you that ruby.”

Rarity found herself helpless staring into those piercing emerald eyes of his. “I…I…” She managed to stutter out.

“Busted,” Spike replied. “Whenever I brought up the ruby, you’d dash off someplace.”

Her mouth dropped open slightly. “Ah, now I see Spikey.” Two can play at this game. She used her hooves to take hold of his cheeks and keep him facing her. “Every time I leaned in; you’d make up some excuse and runoff.”

“Crud…” Spike said and yet found himself smiling. “Everypony practically knows about us.” He added.

“Oh, I know Spikey, it’s the other reason I’ve been wearing the fire heart ruby around customers. I want them to know I’m already taken.”

Spike felt his jaw pop as it dropped open.

She tilted her face up and kissed the end of his nose. “It’s also why I agreed to come with you.”

Spike could feel his face burning now, he was sure he looked brighter than the reddest apple. When Rarity went to kiss his nose again. Spike took the opportunity to change where her lips landed.

Rarity let out a short gasp at the feeling of heat on her lips. His lips are so warm. She thought realizing it was from him being a dragon.

Spike circled Ponyville and came in for a landing in front of Carousel Boutique where a crowd of ponies was standing. He was still kissing Rarity. Breaking the kiss he glanced back at the crowd while they cheered.

Rarity smiled along with him. Now everypony knew it was official.
