//------------------------------// // Chapter 7: Ice Cream Hangout and Slumber Party // Story: A Tale of a Loving Sister // by GoebelTron //------------------------------// It was dawn and the solar rays from the light of the sunrise beamed through Sunset’s window, causing her to wake up and stretch her arms and neck. After she got out of bed, she looked at Chase curled up and sleeping like a baby. Then, she went to the bathroom and got dressed. After Sunset got dressed for the day and finished putting her boots on her feet, she was thinking about what to do with Chase today or if she wanted to go hang out with her friends but leave him with a babysitter. She then texted her friends to meet both herself and Chase at The Sweet Shoppe for some ice cream this afternoon. Then, she went downstairs to make Chase some breakfast. ‘I kinda feel sorry for the poor thing,’ Sunset thought to herself. ‘I wish I knew why his aunt did it. I mean what kind of person would treat her own nephew that way?’ She then furrowed her brows in anger and felt sorrow in her heart. ‘If I ever meet his aunt, I’ll probably give her a piece of my mind.’ Chase woke up and then realized Sunset wasn’t in the bed with him. He got out from under the covers and walked downstairs and saw Sunset in the kitchen making breakfast. “Good morning, Chase,” Sunset said. “Have a seat. I made us some apple cinnamon oatmeal with a little brown sugar for breakfast.” “Thank you,” Chase said as he took his seat at the table. Sunset then served Chase and herself the oatmeal and they ate together. After Chase went upstairs to get dressed and brush his teeth, he came downstairs wearing some of his new clothes Rarity made for him, which turned out to be a cyan t-shirt with dark blue and green stripes, a new pair of overall pants, but in olive green, and silver and blue light-up “Skechers Damager Spaceship” sneakers. “You ready, Chase?” Sunset asked. Chase nodded and then took Sunset’s hand as she grabbed both her keys and wallet and placed them into her purse. Then, they walked out of the apartment and walked to The Sweet Shoppe. After walking for forty and a half minutes, they finally arrived at The Sweet Shoppe and entered the shop. Once they entered, Sunset saw two people she recognized, and they ran the store. One was a man who had light goldish gray skin, emerald green eyes, orange freckles and hair, and he was wearing a reddish orange and white hat, a light blue long sleeve tuxedo shirt with a candy cane striped bow, tan khaki pants, and a white apron with a carrot cake imprinted in the middle, and black work shoes. The other was a woman who had dark rose pink and pale light grayish crimson pink striped hair, pale grayish cyan skin, magenta eyes, and was wearing a yellow polo dress, a white apron with pink overalls and cupcakes imprinted on the side, pink pearl earrings, and white high heels. “Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Cake,” said Sunset. “Ah, Sunset Shimmer!” said Mr. Cake. “This is such a wonderful surprise!” said Mrs. Cake, then they saw Chase right next to Sunset. “Aww, and who might this young man be?” Sunset put a hand on his shoulder. “Mr. and Mrs. Cake, I’d like you to meet Chase. I’m watching over him.” Sunset said. “It’s very nice to meet you, young man,” Mrs. Cake said. “So anyway, what can we get you two?” Mr. Cake asked. Sunset looked at the menu and saw the milkshakes. “I’ll have a... regular sized coffee flavored milkshake, topped with whipped cream, chocolate syrup and a cherry on top please.” Sunset said. Mr. and Mrs. Cake both nodded, then she turned to Chase. “Do you want anything, sweetie?” she asked. Chase looked at the soft served options on the menu. “I’ll have a kid’s small soft served vanilla with rainbow sprinkles in a cup please.” Chase said. “Good choice, buddy,” Sunset said, as the Cakes took their orders, then Sunset saw her friends, except Pinkie Pie, sitting at a table drinking milkshakes and smoothies. “Hey, Chase,” Sunset said. “How about you go over there and sit with the girls while they give me your ice cream and my shake?” “Okay, Sunset,” Chase said, as he left Sunset to pay for their orders. He then walked over to the table where the girls were. “Well, look who decided to join the party!” Rainbow Dash said. “Hey there, sugarcube. Nice to see you again,” Applejack said. “Chase, I don’t mean to brag, but you really look so adorable, darling!” Rarity said with a beaming smile on her face. Chase began to have a rosy blush on his cheeks. “Thank you, Rarity.” Fluttershy looked around for Sunset. “Sweetheart, where’s Sunset?” she asked. Chase pointed at the counter where Sunset was waiting for her orders. “Is she getting yours?” Twilight asked. Chase nodded. They all made an adorable reaction. “Why don’t you come over here, darling?” Rarity asked sweetly, patting her lap. “You can sit on my lap.” Chase nodded and scooted through the girls and then Rarity carefully placed him on her lap, then she blushed. “Comfortable, dear?” Rarity asked. “Yes, Rarity,” Chase said. “By the way, how old are you?” Fluttershy asked. “I’m 4,” Chase said. “Wow, that is a pretty common age for a kid like you,” Twilight said. “You said it,” Spike said. Sunset came to the table with her coffee milkshake and gave Chase his soft served vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. “Thank you,” Chase said. “You’re welcome, sweetie,” Sunset said, as she took her seat next to Twilight and drank her milkshake. “So, any plans for later today?” Sunset asked sipping her milkshake. Pinkie Pie thought of an idea. “What if we had a slumber party at my place tonight?” Rarity gasped in amazement, “Magnificent idea, darling, but what about the little one?” Pinkie Pie scoffed, “You silly goose! We’re going to invite him.” “I knew that. I even made some cute pajamas for him.” Rarity said. Pinkie Pie saw Chase sitting on Rarity’s lap. “Hey, Chase.” “Hi, Pinkie Pie,” Chase replied, as he was done with his ice cream. “How was your ice cream, Chase?” Fluttershy asked. “It was good,” Chase said. “Well, I’m glad,” Pinkie Pie said “because I thought if we could all take turns to hang out with him after school each day, but without arguing because... well, you know.” The girls nodded at Pinkie’s idea. “I guess that doesn’t sound bad at all,” Sunset said. “But we have to make sure if we behave because he’s only 4 and very emotionally fragile. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to him.” They nodded again. “Now, we’re gonna need dinner plans and a movie plan.” The sun was setting and night time was almost around the corner. There was still enough time to enjoy the last few hours of the sun setting in the beautiful view from the red evening sky. Inside their apartment, Sunset was finally done packing her bag for the slumber party at Pinkie Pie’s house, but she was waiting for Chase to be done packing his go-bag of fun stuff and his small suitcase because they were gonna be there for the night. Chase was finally coming down with his suitcase and go-bag. “You ready to go, Chase?” Sunset asked. Chase nodded in a reply and then took Sunset’s hand. After she locked the door, they went to Pinkie’s house to enjoy the party. After they arrived at their friend’s house, Sunset knocked at the door and Pinkie appeared to answer it. She was wearing both a sky blue nightgown and shorts with yellow and blue balloons on the skirt and pink straps and rings on the skirt and shorts. She also wore sky blue fuzzy slippers with pink bows on her feet. “Hey, you guys.” she said. “Come on in. We’re upstairs in my room hanging out.” Sunset and Chase followed her and they saw the girls in their pajamas. Rarity walked towards them, wearing a purple nightgown with a cyan bow, a white floral collar and skirt ring, and three diamonds on the skirt. She also wore purple fuzzy slippers on her feet. “Chase, darling. So glad you and Sunset could join us tonight.” She said happily. “If you’re wondering why we asked you to come here like this, it’s because I’ve left your new pair of pajamas upstairs in the bathroom, but I suggest you should take a bath first.” Chase nodded and hugged Rarity. After Chase went to take a bath with Sunset’s help, Sunset came back from helping Chase with his bath to the bedroom in her pajamas, which consisted to be a magenta long sleeve shirt with a sun symbol in both red and yellow in the center, matching sweatpants in the color as her shirt but with horizontal stripes colored light orange and light yellow, and magenta slippers on her feet. “So, did Chase notice?” Sunset asked Rarity. “Yes, he did.” Rarity said. “Now, come sit and join us.” Sunset walked over to the other girls and sat down with them. “Hey, girls.” Sunset greeted as she sat down with Rarity. “Hi, Sunset,” they greeted back, until Rarity took out some pink nail polish and started to paint Sunset’s fingernails pink. “So, are you ready for Chase’s first sleepover, Sunset?” Twilight asked. Sunset nodded, while Rarity painted her nails. “You bet I am. I just didn’t want to leave him all alone without a babysitter.” While the girls made a “d'awwww” reaction, Rarity had a big smile on her face and was giggling. “Ladies, I did something to Chase’s outfit for tonight that you’ll absolutely love!” “Rarity, what did ya do?” Applejack asked. “Don’t worry, darling. You’ll find out,” Rarity replied and looked at the doorway with a cute giggle. Chase was walking out of the bathroom after a nice warm bath and stopped in the doorway of the room, and he was wearing a green camouflage zip up footsie with dinosaurs imprinted all over and a T-Rex hoodie. The girls began to hear the door open and they turned to see Chase dressed in his cute pajamas and holding both his blanket and teddy bear. They all gasped in great delight and made a “d'awwww” reaction. Sunset then realized how cute he looked. Rarity went up to him and placed her hands on his face. “Oh, Chase, darling, you look so adorable.” she exclaimed with a smile as she beamed at the boy. “Okay, girls. Give him some space.” Sunset said. Chase walked over with Rarity and sat between her legs, which were holding him in place, and she placed her hands on his shoulders. “Are your pajamas soft and warm, darling?” she asked. Chase nodded. “Yes, I like them, Rarity. Thank you.” He then turned around and wrapped his arms around her waist and gently pressed his head on her chest. “Awww, you’re very welcome, sweetie.” she said, then gave him a kiss on the top of his head, then she stroked his hair with her pedicured nails. “Hey, Chase,” Spike said. “Hi, Spike,” Chase replied as he petted the dog. A few moments later, they ordered three boxes of pizza. One was plain cheese, the other was a mixture of both pepperoni and sausage, and the other was veggies. Chase ate two slices of plain cheese and had some Coke to drink with. Rarity ate one slice of veggie pizza, Pinkie Pie has three slices of pepperoni and sausage, Rainbow Dash had two slices, but one pepperoni and sausage and one plain cheese, Twilight had one slice of veggie, Sunset had two slices of plain cheese, Applejack had two slices of veggie, and Fluttershy had two slices of plain cheese. They also had three varieties of soda to drink, but Rainbow Dash and Applejack both had Diet Coke; Rarity, Twilight, and Fluttershy had Sprite; Pinkie Pie and Sunset had Dr Pepper. After they ate their pizza, Chase went to the living room and laid down on the couch. He then took out at an object from his pocket that turned out to be a locked made of both gold and silver. He opened it, revealing a picture of him on the day when he was born and being held by his parents. Until he closed it, he started to cry quietly. “Hey, Sunset,” Applejack asked. “I was wondering. Why does Chase live with you rather than his parents? And how did you find him?” Sunset took a deep breath, and told the girls about Chase’s past life with his parents before they died, and how he was abused by his aunt, including how she blamed her own nephew for the loss of his mother, that she insulted him, yelled at him, forced him to work like a slave, and physically beat him. The girls were disgusted by Chase’s aunt’s behavior. Rainbow Dash and Applejack were both furious on the inside, but calm on the outside. Pinkie’s hair deflated as flat as a pancake and began to cry, but Twilight hugged her and patted her shoulder. Rarity put her fingers on her lips, and Fluttershy placed her hands over her heart with tears in her eyes. Chase overheard everything and began to cry out loud, causing the girls to walk to the living room and comfort him. Fluttershy saw the locket in his hand and took a peek at the picture of his parents and him when he was just a baby. Rainbow Dash sat down with her legs crisscrossed and laid him between her legs while he buried his head on her belly and hugged her waist. Applejack felt sorry for him and Fluttershy stroked his head gently. “Oh, you poor, poor sweet little thing...” Fluttershy said sobbing as she went closer to him for a hug. Rarity, with mascara leaking from her eyes, walked towards the crying child and comforted Fluttershy. Pinkie Pie wrapped his blanket over him and gave him his teddy bear, and hugged Fluttershy and Rarity. Twilight kneeled down and kissed him on the cheek. “There, there. Do you feel better, bug?” she asked. Chase nodded, as he cried softly. Sunset looked at him, then Twilight carefully scooped him up and cradled him onto her lap to soothe his cortisol levels. “Okay, let’s give him some air,” Sunset said as the girls backed up and gave Chase some space. “Let’s watch a movie together,” Rainbow Dash said until she put on a Star Wars movie. After they watched a movie together, Chase started to calm down while laying on Twilight’s lap. Twilight gently stroked the veins in his hands and rubbed his belly, while Chase had his arms wrapped around her leg calmly shaking like a leaf. “Aww, poor little thing,” Rarity said. “Yeah, he’s such a good kid,” Twilight said. “I just don’t get it,” Rainbow Dash said. “How could someone in his family be so cruel to him?” “I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure she’ll get what she deserves soon enough,” Applejack said. “Can we stay up for a few minutes?” Pinkie Pie asked. The girls made agreeable comments and then they socialized while Twilight comforted Chase. As time passed by, it was now 11:00 pm, causing Applejack to get sleepy, “*yawns* Well, let’s hit the sack.” Sunset started to wake up Chase one more time for today. “Chase, you need to brush your teeth, sweetheart,” she said. “Don’t worry, Sunset. I’ll take him upstairs,” Twilight said as she lifted him up from under his armpits and held him in her arms, and carried him upstairs to the bathroom to brush his teeth. After they all got upstairs, Twilight went to her sleeping bag and so did the other girls, but Chase was all alone, until Sunset told Chase to come sleep with her. Chase walked forward and was tucked into his blanket. Then, he scooted over to Sunset and nuzzled by her side. Fluttershy woke up and looked at Chase’s eyes leaking tears. “Chase? You okay, sweetheart?” she asked. “No, I miss my mommy and daddy. *sniff* I’m also scared,” Chase said. “Are you scared of having that nightmare about that cat-bird thing again?” Sunset asked, as Chase nodded. “How about if I sing you a lullaby?” Fluttershy asked. “O-Okay,” Chase replied softly. Sunset held Chase on her lap and hugged him, then Fluttershy began to sing. Hush now, quiet now, it’s time to lay your sleepy head, Hush now, quiet now, it’s time to go to bed, Drifting off to sleep, exciting day behind you, Drifting off to sleep, let the joy of dream land find you, Hush now, quiet now, it’s time to lay your sleepy head, Hush now, quiet now, it’s time to go to bed, Hush now, quiet now, close your sleepy eyes, Hush now, quiet now, my how time sure flies, Drifting off to sleep, exciting day behind you, Drifting off to sleep, let the joy of dreamland find you, Hush now, quiet now, it’s time to lay your sleepy head, Hush now, quiet now, it's time to go to bed. After the song ended, Chase finally fell asleep on Sunset’s lap, then she tucked him back in her sleeping bag and got back in the bag. “Alright, let’s get some sleep,” Sunset said, as the girls went to their sleeping bags and air mattresses, then they went to sleep. Sunset took one more look at Chase and kissed his forehead, then shut her eyes. The morning light shone through the window, and it looked like the girls were about to get up, without scaring the sleeping boy. “Chase, it’s time to get up, buddy,” Sunset said softly. Chase start to yawn and rubbed his eyes. “Good morning, Sunset,” Chase said between sleepy grunting noises. “Good morning, sweetie,” Sunset said. “How’d you sleep?” Chase rubbed his eyes again. “I slept good” Sunset was surprised Chase was so tired from all that food from last night. “Hey, let’s get you downstairs for some breakfast,” she said, before she lifted him up and carried him downstairs to the kitchen. Once they arrived, Sunset saw Applejack whipping up some pancakes for breakfast, along with some eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns. Applejack saw Sunset put Chase down and get some coffee. “Good morning, Sunset! Good morning, Chase!” they all said. “Good morning, girls,” Sunset said. “Chase, go sit down.” “Okay,” Chase said, as he went to the table and sat next to Rainbow Dash and Twilight. “Did you sleep well, sweetie?” Twilight asked. “Mmhmm,” Chase replied with a yawn. “Awww, look at that. The poor little dude’s still tuckered out,” Rainbow Dash said. “Did you enjoy the slumber party, darling?” Rarity asked. Chase nodded as Pinkie Pie poured him a glass of chocolate milk. Then, Applejack came by and placed the dishes with the food around the table, then she sat down and they all enjoyed breakfast together, except Chase because he never got anything. Luckily, Fluttershy was kind enough to grab an empty plate and fill it with three pancakes, some scrambled eggs, a small variety of both bacon and sausage, and some fresh fruit for him. “Here you go, sweetheart,” she said after giving the hungry boy his breakfast. “Thank you, Fluttershy,” Chase said kindly, and then Twilight helped him put the butter on the pancakes, cut them, and pour the maple syrup on them. After that, he hugged her and then ate his breakfast. After breakfast was done and they got dressed, they packed up their bags and went home. Applejack went back to Sweet Apple Acres to help out with apple picking, Rarity went back to her boutique to take care of both her designs and her sister, Twilight took Spike back home with her, Fluttershy went back to the shelter to take care of the animals, Rainbow Dash went home to work out, and Pinkie Pie finished cleaning up and then went all the way to work at her job at The Sweet Shoppe. Meanwhile, Sunset and Chase went back to the apartment. ‘That was the best slumber party ever,’ Chase thought to himself.
