Sweet Dreams

The Book of Dreams

I walk through the door of my real home. "Lee!" My mother exlaims. "How was your day?"

"It was fine." I say, then amble downstairs into my room.

I'm not trying to be rude to Mom; that's far from the case. I love her to death. She's not like an average mom, either. She's pretty chill about most things, and she isn't the "excitable" type. I guess that's where I got my distaste for squealing girls, huh?

Anyways, I walk downstairs into my room. It's an utter disaster, and I do not care in the slightest. Drawers are left open with clothes hanging out of them, while food wrappers and laundry are scattered over the floor. My xbox and TV are perched up on a small table next to my bed. Bella sits herself on my window sill, and meows at my return.

"Hey, girl. What are you doing?" I smile, and she returns my greeting with another meow. I walk over to my bed, and plop down on it.

I should really take a shower... I think. Since I don't really want my stepdad to be reminded of where I went, I won't chance another trip upstairs. Mom told me that he was pissed to find out my dad came to town, and became worried that Dad might take me away. I laugh a little to myself because I know that would never happen. If he doesn't take the time to call, what makes Andy think that Dad'll just snatch me away?

I guess it's a father thing that I wouldn't understand. I lay back against my pillow, and shut my eyes for a second, thinking about that dream.

It's just so weird. I've never dreamt something so realistic. All of my other dreams have been blurry and unclear. Why did Pinkie Pie suddenly turn out of the blue?

Pinkie Pie and Twilight

"Amazing!" Twilight exlaims, turning the page of her book.

"What's amazing?" Pinkie asks, coming up the stairs of Twilight's library.

"Well," Twilight begins, too absorbed in her book to care about her friend's unexpected appearance. "This book describes the depth of just about every type of dream, and the specific connection it has with each pony. It says here that with strong enough magic, one could even view and experience another pony's dream; not only that, we could create all sorts of things in that dream, and use magic in it like it was reality. Sort of like lucid dreaming, but the magic would actually take effect."

"Oooh! Cool! Have you tried it, Twilight?"

"Well, no." Twilight admits. "It just seems awfully risky to try. But there are so many other features to talk about! Even the detrimental ones fascinate me. Using power like this, well, it seems like one could even create another world! Just temporary, mind you. Not just that, the world isn't connected to the ties of reality, making it a complete work of one's imagination. Or, even several ponies' imaginations." Twilight flips the book to another page, positively beaming.

"That would be so much fun! We could get all of Ponyville to share the dream world with, right Twilight? Then it'd be a huge, fun collision of different dreams!" Pinkie Pie exlaims.

"Hold on, Pinkie." Twilight chuckles. "I think you've forgotten some things. First off, I don't have a suitable test subject - notice, that's singular - to try the spell on. Second, even if I had one, I don't know if I'm willing to risk them being lost for years inside of the dream with an accidental appearance. If I sent somepony to a dream, there's a small chance that I could disrupt the regular flow of other dimension. If that were to happen, the results coukd be catastrophic for several worlds. Of course, it takes a lot of power to just do that with one other dimension!"

"So? It's small! I'm sure you wouldn't hurt anypony with just one try!"

"Well, with this spell, you could also disrupt the dreams of other, erm, what was the term they used?" Twilight scans the page for the word. "Specimen. Says here that the first pony to be tested on met strange two legged creatures that called themselves 'humans.' I don't know if anypony'd be willing to meet an entirely new race..."

"Oh! Me! Pick me!" Exlaims Pinkie, hopping up and down and raising one of her hooves.

"Pinkie, it's dangerous! Even if I did use a small amount of power, what if I hurt you? Dreams are powerful too, you know."

"Oh, Twilight! I'm sure it'll be fine. I mean, it's an experiment, right?! You won't know anything unless you try! And anyway, what's the point of reading about a spell without getting to try it? Duh! Boring!" Pinkie giggles, bouncing around her friend.

Twilight ponders the possibilities for a moment. She does have a point... And anyway, I guess it can't hurt to use a small amount of power. I'll just use the viewing spell to begin with, and instruct her in it. There seems to be so many spells within this spell! Dream controlling, creating dream worlds, messing with physics, dream view, dream psychological connecting, multiplicable connections, dream instructing! And so much more! I guess I'm kind of glad Pinkie offered. Looks like we have a lot to go through.

Twilight sighs, and looks to her friend. "Before I say yes, I want you to know: the dreams themselves are probably more powerful than the spells I will be casting. Are you prepared to face any certain concequences? Are you prepared for any obsticles standing in your way?" Twilight furrows her brow in serious determination to convince her friend otherwise of her decision.

"Of course, Twilight! Dreams are so much fun!"

Twilight, who both expected and dreaded this answer - an avid scholar loves to experiment, and Twilight can hardly pass down a chance to start something new - nods with defeat.

"All right. Tonight, we will meet in the basement of my library. I don't want Spike to possibly take the brunt of the spell with you. The basement is much safer."

"Okie dokie!" Pinkie Pie beams, and as quickly and as unexplained as she came, she exits the library in happy bounces of her hooves.

Twilight sighs. I hope this is safe.

She closes the book, then climbs into her bed for a good night's sleep.
