//------------------------------// // No Laughing Matter // Story: A Beautiful Melody // by RainbowShy1241 //------------------------------// The night went by fast because I didn't dream. I literally just closed my eyes and seconds later opened then again to see sunlight. I started the day with my usual routine, put my sunglasses on, stretch my way out of bed and then I trotted over to the kitchen. In the kitchen was Lyra sitting at a table reading the newspaper, there were plates and utensils for the three of us already placed. Bonbon was at the stove in the opposite side of the kitchen cooking. "Good morning, Vinyl." Lyra said lifting her head from the newspaper that she was reading. Bonbon then turned to look at me. "Oh hey, Vinyl! You're just in time for breakfast. Do you want some pancakes?" The beige pony said as she flipped the pastries effortlessly in the air making them land safely on the pan. "Sure!" I said as I made my way to the table with which Lyra had been sitting at. "So, Vinyl, what do you think we should do today? The mint green unicorn started. "She is not doing anything until she talks to Pinkie Pie." Bonbon said with an assertive tone as she stared at both of us. "Yes sir!" I said sarcastically, but that just made her stare more aggressively and Lyra was biting her biting lip looking at me with a 'You shouldn't have said that' expression on her face. Thankfully she turned back to her cooking and cooled down a bit. The room went silent for a bit until Bonbon came with a large pile of pancakes on a plate. She placed the plate on the center of the table and gave a gesture for us to dig in. I placed a few on my plate in a pile and drowned them with the syrup that was placed in the middle of the table. Bonbon then took it after me and did the same. Lyra though, she just covered them with butter, to a point where the pancakes turned snow white. "Sooo_" Lyra said looking at Bonbon. "Do you still want that present when Vinyl leaves." She then gave a wink to her marefriend. Bonbon held Lyra's hoof and showed a small smile as she continued eating. I chuckled and that made Bonbon let go of the hoof, her face was red with a blush. Lyra and I were now both laughing hysterically before I took my last bite. I looked at my plate for a little and then got up to bring it in the sink. To my surprise the whole inside of the kitchen was clean, almost as if nopony had laid hoof in there. I knew Bonbon loved to keep things spotless, but to do it instantaneously was funny. I was very surprised that the pony wasn't behind me to clean the plate after I placed it in the sink. After the plate was in, I walked back to the table to wait for the two others to finish, I was stalling more than anything else but they didn't take it as that. "Those were very good pancakes, Bonbon." I said, but the mare just looked up at me and it was obvious that she was still mad about the remark I made. "'Kay I'm sorry, that was really uncalled for what I said earlier... I'm sorry." "Fine, I forgive you, but that still doesn't excuse you from talking to Pinkie." Bonbon said with a smile across her face. I never really thought of it as an excuse, but now that it was said, it seemed like it would’ve been a good idea. "There's no sense in staying here, Vinyl you mine as well go now." She continued, that smug smile still plastered on her face. “I think I can tell when I’m unwanted.” I said jokingly as I turned my head with a huff. Lyra and Bonbon giggled and I made my way to the door. “See ya later girls.” I said while opening the door. They both said their goodbyes and I walked out, closed the door behind me and trotted in the direction of Sugarcube Corner. As I walked I noticed that not much was going on out in Ponyville like it used to be back in the day. I guess everypony moved to the big cities when they got the chance. I don’t blame them, there’s not much to this town anymore. Mostly because Ponyville folk are too stubborn to get the latest technologies, they wanna do it the old fashioned way. I admire that in certain ways, but sometimes you gotta give in. Before I knew it I was in front of the gingerbread decorated shop. With a gulp I opened the door and slowly walked in. I was greeted by Ms. Cakes who, by the looks of it, had no idea of what happened last night. “Oh my, If it isn’t Vinyl. It’s been awhile hasn’t it.” The blue earth pony said behind the glass counter. “I’m guessing you’re looking for Pinkie. She’s upstairs in her bedroom... I don’t know what got her down, but I’m sure after seeing you she’ll perk up just fine.” Then a voice sounded from inside the bakery’s kitchen. I couldn’t understand a single word that was said, but Ms. Cake was able to. “Coming dear! You can go see Pinkie, I gotta take care of this.” She said before trotting to the kitchen. I redirected myself to the staircase that was on the left side of the counter. I slowly started to walk up the stairs, still wondering what I could possibly say to make the mare feel better. I was now in front of the large door that held a sign reading ‘Pinkie’. Taking a deep breath, I turned the knob and pushed the door revealing a very clean room with pink walls and wood floors. On the opposite side of the room was a bed which had a little pink pony sitting on the side. Well I guess this is it...
