Hey Look! A Distraction!

by Fresnor

Hey, what's that?

Discord gazed out over his kingdom of chaos with glee as he reveled in his own cleverness. With the ponies that bore the Elements of Harmony broken up and turned against their very natures, there was now nothing to stop him. The buffalo were dancing, the clouds were pink and fluffy, the filly stared up at him curiously and the landscape was full of chaos as far as the eyes could see.

Yet something poked at the draconequus' mind, something that told him that not all was right. Looking up he re-read what had just passed him by before doing a double take and looking down. He blinked a couple times before pulling his eyes out to wipe them on his chest, getting a giggle from below him, before returning them to their place. Even with that though, the filly still remained in his vision looking up at him as if nothing was happening.

As the filly looked up at him, Discord looked back and carefully examined the filly. Her bright pink mane and tail were a mess as if she had just gotten out of bed, while the rest of her form was a uniform neon green color. There seemed to be nothing special about the filly, though he wasn't quite sure if she was an earth pony or a unicorn as her mane was so messy that it would have covered a horn if there was one.

“Well, what do we have here? Shouldn't you be running like all these other ponies, or is it that you actually have something to entertain me with?” The filly just cocked her head to the side cutely, before a wide grin spread across her face.

“Imma distwaction!” The filly's response only served to confuse the chimera, while also piquing his interest.

“Oh? And for what are you a distraction for, hmm? The Elements of Harmony are gone and the princesses are no match for me so what possibly could be a threat to me?” The filly just turned her head to look towards something behind Discord and stared. Curious as to what she was looking at, Discord turned to look as well but found nothing out of the ordinary to be in view.

SPLUT!

The draconequus blinked as the pie slowly dripped off the back of his head. Raising his talon, he scooped up a small piece of it before putting it in his mouth.

“Raspberry? You dare give me the raspberry!? Oh ho ho, now you are in for it!” As the chimera glared at the filly, she only looked at him with an innocent smile.

“Come on girls, we need to find Discord and use the Elements on him before it is too late!” Twilight and her five friends raced through Ponyville in search of the malicious trickster after finally recovering from the spell he had put on them. They were surprised that Discord hadn't shown up at all to try and stop them, especially as they had to race all over the skies of the town just to catch Rainbow Dash. Yet, despite all the commotion caused by Twilight trying to regather her friends to dispel the discording on them, they hadn't seen claw nor mane of the being.

“But where could he be? We already checked that creepy throne thing in the center of Ponyville, so where else would we find him?” The others shrugged at Rainbow Dash's question as none of them could answer that. Twilight began to worry that he got bored and decided to go elsewhere in Equestria until her ear twitched as she heard something.

“Girls wait, do you hear that?” The six mares stopped and perked up their ears as they tried to identify what their purple friend was talking about. Soon they could just make out the sound of arguing behind Sugarcube Corner.

“Are not!”

“Are too!”

“Are not!”

“Are too!”

Curious as to what was going on, the six Bearers crept around the building and peeked down the side street on the other side. There they found Discord, but he was not alone as he appeared to be arguing with a young filly of around five years old.

“Are too!”

“Are not!”

“Are too!”

“Are too!”

“Are not!”

“Are too!”

“Are not!”

“Are too and that's final!”

“Fine, you are a booger head then.” Discord smiled as he turned away from the filly, having won the argument. Moments later he jaw-dropped at what had just been done to him.

“Wait! That's not! I mean! GAH!” With a huff, Discord turned away from the filly who commenced giggling.

“How are you even doing that? I've never seen a pony being so infuriatingly... Gah!” Sitting back the filly smiled innocently once again.

“Imma d-” With a wave of his claw Discord sighed in annoyance.

“Yes yes, you've already said that. But... Now what are you looking at?” He squinted at the filly as her eyes got really wide while looking behind him once again. His head started to turn before locking back onto the filly once more.

“No! I'm on to you this time. No way are you getting me with that trick again.” He crossed his arms as he glared down at her causing her to shrug.

“'Kay love ya, buh bye. Have fun with the rainbow.” Standing up the filly pranced to the side as Discord looked at her in confusion. Suddenly her words registered in his mind and he whipped around to see the Elements of Harmony powering up and sending a rainbow into the sky. He quickly turned back around and pointed menacingly at the filly.

“You! What have you done! You distracted me from-” He never had a chance to finish as the power of the Elements rained down upon him and a blaze of color. When the dust settled, all that remained was his stone encased form, wearing a dunce cap. With him imprisoned once more, the Elements flared up again, sending out a ring of energy that cleansed the world of his chaos magic and returned things back to how they should be.

With a sigh, the six mares collapsed to the ground, thankful that the day's trial was over. Their reaction got a giggle from the filly, reminding them of her presence and the fact that she wasn't a figment of their imagination. Rainbow Dash was the first back to her hooves as she approached the smiling pony.

“Hey kid, what were you doing out here with him? Don't you know how dangerous that was?” The filly just cocked her head cutely at the mare before smiling.

“Imma distwaction!” Rainbow Dash tilted her head in confusion at the filly's proclamation.

“That's nice kid, but what's that supposed to mean?” The filly only raised her hoof, pointing back at the other mares in response. Rainbow Dash turned back to look at them, yet saw nothing of consequence.

SPLUT!

The cyan mare blinked as the pie, another raspberry, dripped down off the back of her head and the filly giggled behind her. Looking at her friends she could see that they were trying to hold in their laughter, or failing to in Pinkie Pie's case.

“Did... did I really just fall for a 'look over there' prank?” This caused her friends to finally lose it as they all began laughing at their friend's plight. Through it all the filly only smiled innocently as a rainbow-colored butterfly appeared on her flank.
