Episode 21: Babysitting

Akage was with Pinkie Pie at Unityville General Hospital. The two of them checking in with the Cakes to see the couple's twin bundles of joy that had just joined the world. A baby Magi girl named Pumpkin and a Skyborn boy named Pound. And the young ninja couldn't help but smile when he saw Pinkie fawn over the cake twins. I expect her to get quite close to those two in the near future. Akage thought to himself.

However, things weren't exactly back to normal at Sugar Cube Corner. Raising a baby is quite the demanding job. Made only more demanding as there were now two infants to care for. Both Akage and Pinkie were impressed by the Cakes being able to juggle caring for their children and keeping the shop up and running simultaneously. Unfortunately, said schedule was further disrupted by the Cakes being called away to make a delivery. Naturally, Pinkie offered her assistance in watching the twins. "Now then! This should be plenty of fun!" Pinkie chirped as she zipped off to play with the twins.

"Uh, sure. . . " Akage said nervously. "Pinkie? Do you have any experience caring for children?"

Pinkie giggled. "Oh it'll be easy silly! All I gotta do is make sure they're fed, changed, and bathed! Just three big things to remember and we'll be just fine?" She then returned her attention to Pound and Pumpkin "Isn't that right?" Pinkie then resumed making funny faces to amuse the twins.

"I'm not so sure." Akage said as he scratched his head. "Twilight said that baby Magi have magic surges and Rainbow Dash said that baby Skyborn just love to mess around with their wings. Maybe we should call them for advice? It couldn't hurt, right?"

Pinkie shot a pleading gaze toward Akage. "But Akage, I Pinkie Promised Mr. and Mrs. Cake that I'd be able to watch Pound and Pumpkin on my own! You wouldn't want me to break my promise, would you?"

"I. . ." Akage gave a defeated sigh. From what he'd heard, a Pinkie Promise was quite binding. And breaking one? Well, he really didn't want to know what the consequences would be. "Alright. But just tell me when you get to a point where it's too much for you." Akage retreated to the kitchen and promptly started reading his book. Things were quiet for a few hours, so Akage decided to check the time. "Hmm. Just about bath time." He got up, and walked over to the bathroom. "I wonder what's going- BLAAARBB!" Akage's face was met with a jet of water! As soon as he regained his sight, Akage saw Pinkie pushing a tub off her. "Do, I even want to know?"

Pinkie Pie shook her head. "All I'll say is that bath time was a complete wash." Sure enough, night fell and it was time to put the Cake Twins to bed. However, Pinkie was having great difficulty trying to get them to sleep. "Pleeease go to sleep!" Pinkie Pie pleaded with the infants! She was beginning to lose hope that she'd be able to handle the twins when she noticed their hands reaching for something. That something was Akage's scarf. "Akage! Quick! Let Pound and Pumpkin snuggle with your scarf!"

Akage tensed up. His scarf was his most prized possession. A gift his mother had given him since childhood that had grown with him. However, Akage knew that it was needed for a more vital purpose at the moment. "As you wish." Akage removed his scarf, and gently placed it in the crib. Pound and Pumpkin nuzzled against the scarf and squealed happily as they soon drifted off to sleep. The sight bringing up memories from Akage's childhood. "Sleep well." Akage said with a smile before heading off to bed.

The next morning, Akage was stunned to see Pumpkin shakily return his scarf by levitating it with her magic. "Thank you Pumpkin. You took very good care of it." Hearing the baby girl giggle couldn't help but warm Akage's heart. He then joined Pinkie for breakfast. "So how'd the Cakes like our work?"

"They were thrilled!" Pinkie Pie chirped as she began to dig into her breakfast. "Babies really are a labor of love. Which got me wondering. . ." Pinkie then scooted up to Akage. "When do you think we should have some of our own?"

Akage's eyes shrunk to pinpricks, and he did the only logical thing. Spit out the tea he was drinking. The Cake Twins then had a new thing to make them laugh that day.
