The time for White Magick to give his address was fast approaching and he was becoming more nervous by the minute and Twilight could sense it. She embraced him and asked, "Are you sure you really want to do this? Are you sure you want to make them pick between me being queen or you abdicating?"
White Magick replied, "Yes Twilight, I do. You mean far more to me than a kingdom, you are the most special, most precious thing in my life."
The two cast their gaze across the room and saw Colgate with a deep scowl on her face. While he was not completely sure, he had a feeling that Colgate's disapproval was based in not just how she feels he has betrayed Ruby, but many, many millennia of him being the rock that kept his realm stable and peaceful.
Another thirty minutes passed and all had been quiet in the throne room until a guard entered, "Your Majesty, the city has gathered outside the palace so whenever you are ready."
White Magick gave Twilight a smile and asked, "Shall we? Shall we go and tell them the good news?"
Twilight replied, "Yes, let's do. I just hope they will accept me."
Before he could say anything Colgate sneered, "Well I shall join you. I'm certain they will look to me for advice since I was a good friend of Ruby and I'm not betraying them."
White Magick simply rolled his eyes and as they headed out onto the balcony, the ponies of the city began to cheer until they saw Twilight by his side. As they reached the railing, a pony out in the crowd yelled, "It's her, it's the dark goddess that put a spell on our king!"
Another yelled, "Banish her, get her out of here!"
It was also a known historical fact that it was Colgate who had won Ruby's favor so they were far more receptive of her. The same pony yelled, "Colgate, help get her out of here!"
Another yelled, "Break the spell of the dark goddess! Get us our king back!"
Before Colgate could say anything, White Magick yelled, "Silence! I have an announcement."
The last time White Magick had yelled like that was long before any of the citizens in the city had even been born but they did know one thing, that a yell from him meant that they had best be quiet. Once everypony was silent he began, "Citizens, I want to let you know that I have called you before my balcony over very important matters."
One pony yelled, "Does it involve Colgate and the dark goddess? Are you going to have Colgate purge her from our kingdom?"
For the first time in ages, and the first time ever towards one of his own subjects, White Magick flared his horn up in anger. He yelled, "No, Colgate will not purge my true love!"
The entire crowd went silent when he referred to Twilight as his true love. Everypony stood there in a state of silence, the type of silence was deafening. Soon everypony developed a scowl on their face as they knew that back in the past, that Queen Ruby Heart was his true love. One pony finally screamed in anger, "What? The dark goddess, an Equestrian, is your true love?"
Another pony yelled, "Traitor!"
A third yelled, "Tyrant!"
White Magick realized that this was quickly going to turn into a violent mob if he didn't do something. He flared up his horn and yelled, "Silence!"
Again the crowd went silent as he continued, "Listen, let me explain, ok?"
Despite having scowls on their faces, the crowd motioned for White Magick to continue. He began, "As all of you know, for quite some time after losing Ruby in the battle of Tambelon, I was devastated. For thousands of years I was devastated but eventually I became lonely, very lonely and that is when Princess Twilight of Equestria and I began to grow closer."
The entire crowd began to boo and again call for Colgate to run Twilight out of their realm and break the spell Twilight had placed on their king. He was becoming frustrated with them and yelled, "Listen, Twilight never cast a spell on me and she is not evil!" He raised his voice further and ordered, "Again, let me explain everything, ok?"
The crowd again went silent and he continued, "Look, I'm not going to go into too much detail with the way you are acting but I'm going to tell you something. Tirac and his Equestrian counterpart have escaped from Tartarus so Twilight, Colgate and myself had to go to Dream Valley to acquire a relic, a relic that will aid in defeating them."
The crowd gasped in shock when he mentioned the escape of Tirac. He could tell that they were no longer angry but concerned so he continued, "While the three of us were out there, something magical happened, something that was thought to only happen to the ponies who lived in Ponyland." He saw them begin to scowl again and continued, "Twilight and I life-bonded, we love one another and will be together forever."
The crowd knew what this meant and immediately began to boo his announcement before one yelled, "Her, our queen? I will NEVER bow to her, never!"
The rest of the crowd shouted, "Here, here!"
Another pony yelled, "Colgate, you have to break the life bond, you have to save our king!"
Colgate yelled back, "If I knew how to I already would have. I don't like this any more than you do."
When White Magick heard this he knew that he could no longer be an ally or a friend to Colgate. He knew that she held onto the past so much that she may actually aid in a coup if given the opportunity. This would only become more apparent when Colgate flew down into the crowd and joined them in the booing over his decision regarding Twilight.
He finally realized that the time had come to tell them about his plans. He stood tall and announced, "You know what? If you will not accept the fact that I love Twilight, we life-bonded, that before too long we will be married and she will become Queen Twilight, I shall abdicate and leave you all leaderless."
The entire crowd began to boo and started chanting the word "tyrant" towards him before turning their insults towards Twilight, calling her a seductress and a dark goddess. This caused Twilight to break down crying and hide behind White Magick. She sobbed, "Why? Why do they hate me so much?"
White Magick held her close and replied, "Probably because of the history books regarding when you first arrived here and they don't know how much you changed. They don't know you are a sweet and loving mare now."
She continued to cry, "So what are you going to do?"
White Magick replied, "Well I'm going to abdicate and we'll go back to Ponyville." He turned back towards the crowd and continued, "Since they think she is so great, they can have their beloved Colgate help find them a new leader."
Twilight realized that the stallion she loved so much was not joking when he told her that this was what he would do if they rejected her, she knew that he truly did love her more than anything. She gave him a kiss before stating, "I love you so much White Magick. I don't know how you will be received by the ponies of Equestria but I'm sure it will be a lot better than this."
Before heading back to the balcony he replied, "I love you too Twilight."
As he approached the edge of the balcony the boos erupted again. For the first time in his life, he lit up his horn and fired energy towards his subjects. Luckily for them though, Colgate fired a bolt of energy of her own that prevented him from striking them. He gave the crowd a glare before continuing, "You know what? I'm done. Effective immediately, I am abdicating the throne and since you think she is so great, you can look to Colgate for leadership." He then turned around, grabbed Twilight by the hoof and asked, "Shall we? Shall we return to Ponyville?"
She gave him a smile and they took off, heading towards the portal. Before they could get out of earshot, they heard the crowd erupt into cheers and heard them chanting Colgate's name. This disgusted the two but at that point, they no longer cared. They had each other and that is all that mattered.
