//------------------------------// // Chapter 49: A Farewell to Kings // Story: Yu-Gi-Oh! Friendship is Magic: The Numeric War // by moviemaster8510 //------------------------------// Braeburn, Scott, and Helena flew through the portal into their room. Helena instinctively got up and looked around for any more traps and/or assailants. She didn’t have to look long, as she saw a man sitting on a throne at the end of the room. She couldn’t see him clearly, as a shadow obscured his features. She could see a stone behind him though, and in it was Rarity. “Rarity!” she cried. “Rarity?” asked Braeburn. They all got up and ran towards the stone. Before they got too close, the man raised his hand, causing it to glow with a faint purple. Suddenly, Helena, Braeburn, and Scott were petrified. “Let us go!” yelled Helena. “Shut up, bitch,” he said. Now closer, plus his voice being a dead giveaway, everyone could see the man in front of them was Chase. He waved his arm, placing his frozen enemies twenty feet or so back. He then unfroze them. Chase got up off of the throne, which sunk into the floor. Upon revealing himself fuller in the light, he looked much different. He wasn’t wearing any kind of shirt, leaving his upper body entirely exposed. His skin was a pale white, like he was an animated corpse. He probably was, considering the hole in his chest where Zelda shot him. The eyes behind his glasses were milky and lifeless. He also wore the corrupted Element of Generosity around his neck. “Wow,” said Helena. “Who knew Chase loved to wear jewelry?” This elicited snickers from Braeburn and Scott. “I said SHUT UP, YOU BITCH!” yelled Chase. He forced his palm out, knocking Helena off of her feet with an invisible force. “Hey!” yelled Scott, approaching Chase. “Don’t,” said Chase, making a hand that looked like he was choking the air. He was however using these powers to choke Scott. “Are you done?” Chase asked. Scott didn’t have enough breath to say, “Yes,” so he nodded. Chase let him go. “As you can see,” said Chase, “I am not as dead as you were led to believe. But thanks to the corrupted powers of the Element of Generosity, I am alive and well. You are not allowed to pass through this room, unless you duel me. The loser loses their Numbers… and their lives. The way I see it, you want to stop Inverz and save your friend, and I want what rightfully belongs to us. I don’t see how you can refuse.” “There never was going to be a refusal,” said Helena, activating her gauntlet duel disk. “You’re going to pay for hurting my sweet Rarity,” said Braeburn, unsheathing his D-Pad. Scott also unsheathed his D-Pad. Chas activated his D-Pad and they all drew five cards from their decks. “DUEL!” they all yelled. Braeburn, Helena, and Scott vs. Chase Braeburn’s Turn: Braeburn summons Ancient Gear Statue (ATK: 500 DEF: 800). Braeburn tributes Ancient Gear Statue to special summon Ancient Gear Golem, ignoring the summoning conditions (ATK: 3000 DEF: 3000). Braeburn places 2 cards face down and ends his turn. Status: Hand-2 Life-12000 Monsters-1 Face Down Cards-2 ____________________________________ With the power given to me by the elements, thought Chase, I am invincible. These fools will cower before the true, unrelenting power of my Chronomaly deck. ____________________________________ Chase’s Turn: Chase activates Graceful Charity drawing 3 cards and discarding 2. Chase special summons Chronomaly Crystal Bones, as his opponent controls a monster while he doesn’t (ATK: 1300 DEF: 400). When Chronomaly Crystal Bone is summoned that way, Chase can special summon an Chronomaly monster from his graveyard, choosing Chronomaly Crystal Skull (ATK: 900 DEF: 600). Chase overlays OOPArts Crystal Bones and Chronomaly Crystal Skull to xyz summon Chronomaly Crystal Chononaut (ATK: 2100 DEF: 1000). Chase then special summons Chronomaly Aztec Mask Golem, as he activated a normal spell card this turn (ATK: 1500 DEF: 1000). Chase then special summons Chronomaly Moai in defense position, as he controls an Chronomaly monster (ATK: 1800 DEF: 1600). Chase then special summons another Chronomaly Moai under the same conditions. Chase overlays both Chronomaly Moais to xyz summon Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach (ATK: 2400 DEF: 1500). Chase then tributes Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach to normal summon Chronomaly Sol Monolith (ATK: 600 DEF: 600). When Chronomaly Sol Monolith is summoned, Chase can make the level of any monster he controls to be 6, choosing Chronomaly Aztec Mask Golem (Lvl.: 4 -> 6). Chase overlays Chronomaly Aztec Mask Golem with Chronomaly Sol Monolith to xyz summon Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis (ATK: 2600 DEF: 3000). When Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis is xyz summoned, Chase can equip a Number monster to it and have Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis gain ATK equal to half of the Number’s ATK, choosing Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach (ATK: 2600 -> 3800). Chase activates Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis’s effect. By detaching 1 xyz material from it and sending an equip card equipped to it by its own effect to the graveyard (ATK: 3800 -> 2600), Chase can halve Braeburn, Helena, and Scott’s life points. Braeburn, Helena, and Scott’s Life Points: 12000 -> 6000 When Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis’s effect is activated, Chase cannot conduct his battle phase this turn. Chase places 1 card face down and ends his turn. Status: Hand-0 Life-12000 Monsters-2 Face Down Cards-1 ____________________________________ “Do you see why standing up to me is futile?” asked Chase. “With the awesome powers of my Chronomaly deck, you don’t stand a fraction of a chance.” “You’re wrong,” said Helena. “As long as we have the support of our friends, the only inevitability is your defeat.” ____________________________________ Helena’s Turn: Helena special summons Photon Thrasher, as she controls no monsters (ATK: 2100 DEF: 0). She then normal summons Photon Lizard (ATK: 900 DEF: 1200). Helena activates Photon Booster, making Photon Lizard’s ATK 2000 (ATK: 900 -> 2000). Helena tributes Photon Thrasher and Photon Lizard to special summon Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon (ATK: 3000 DEF: 2500). Helena then activates Photon Sanctuary, special summoning 2 level 4 Photon tokens (ATK: 2000 DEF: 0). Helena overlays both Photon tokens to xyz summon Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina (ATK: 2300 DEF: 1800). Helena places 1 card face down. Helena then activates Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina’s effect. By detaching 1 xyz material when she has no cards in her hand, she can draw 5 cards. Helena attacks Chronomaly Crystal Alien with Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. Chase activates Chronomaly Crystal Alien’s effect. By detaching 1 xyz material from it when it’s targeted for an attack, it can’t be destroyed by battle or card effects, and any battle damage is inflicted on the opponent instead. Helena activates Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s effect. When it battles an opponent’s monster, Helena removes both it and the monster it’s battling from play. At the end of the battle phase, both monsters are special summoned to their owner’s sides of the field. If the monster that Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon battled was an xyz monster, Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s ATK raises by 500 for each xyz material attached to the monster when it left the field (1) (ATK: 3000 -> 3500). Helena ends her turn. Status: Hand-5 Life-6000 Monsters-2 Face Down Cards-1 ____________________________________ “Boring,” said Chase. ____________________________________ Chase’s Turn: Chase activates Palenque Sarcophagus, drawing 2 cards when he controls a Chronomaly monster. Chase activates the field spell Chronomaly City Babylon. Chase activates Chronomaly City Babylon’s effect. By removing an Chronomaly monster in his graveyard from play, he can special summon a monster with the same level from his graveyard, removing from play an Chronomaly Moai to special summon another Chronomaly Moai. Chase special summons another OOPArts Moai from his hand. Chase activates his trap Xyz Soul, choosing an xyz monster in either player’s graveyard and having all monsters he controls gain ATK equal to the rank of the monster times 200, choosing Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach (5 x 200 = 1000) (ATK: 2100 -> 3100) (ATK: 2600 -> 3600) (ATK: 1800 -> 2800) (ATK: 1800 -> 2800). Then then xyz monster returns to the extra deck. Chase attacks Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina with Chronomaly Moai, but Braeburn activates Waboku, preventing their monsters’ destruction by battle and reducing all battle damage this turn to 0. Chase overlays both Chronomaly Moais to xyz summon Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach. During the end phase, all monsters’ ATK returns to normal (ATK: 3100 -> 2100) (ATK: 3600 -> 2600). Chase activates Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach’s effect. When a monster’s ATK changes, Chase can detach 1 xyz material from it to inflict damage equal to the difference between the higher ATK and the lower ATK (3600 – 2600 = 1000). Braeburn, Helena, and Scott’s Life Points: 6000 -> 5000 Chase ends his turn. Status: Hand-0 Life-12000 Monsters-3 Face Down Cards-1 ____________________________________ “Oh, now look whose turn it is,” said Chase. “I saw the way Gilda and Mark whooped your ass. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the show here.” “You’re not going to want to miss it,” said Scott confidently. “It’s going to be explosive.” ____________________________________ Scott’s Turn: Scott overlays Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and Ancient Gear Golem to xyz summon Number 171: Grand Harmonious Pipe Organ (ATK: 3400 DEF: 2500). Scott activates the effect of Number 171: Grand Harmonious Pipe Organ. By detaching one xyz material, Number 171: Grand Harmonious Pipe Organ’s ATK raises by 100 times the rank of every xyz monster on the field (excluding its own) (14) (100 x 14 = 1400, ATK: 3400 -> 4800). Chase activates Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach’s effect (4800 – 3400 = 1400). Braeburn, Helena, and Scott’s Life Points: 5000 -> 3600 Scott equips Number 171: Grand Harmonious Pipe Organ with Megamorph, doubling its original ATK (ATK: 4800 -> 8200). Scott attacks Chronomaly Crystal Chrononaut. Chase’s Life Points: 12000 -> 5900 Scott places 1 card face down and ends his turn. Number 171: Grand Harmonious Pipe Organ’s ATK returns to normal (ATK: 8200 -> 6800). Status: Hand-4 Life-3800 Monsters-1 Face Down Cards-2 ____________________________________ “You…” wheezed Chase, “…fucking dick.” “Thanks,” said Scott happily. “Don’t forget, you little shit. You have less than a third of your life points remaining. Forget any thoughts of winning this, because you won’t. I will personally see to that.” ____________________________________ Chase’s Turn: Chase attacks Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina with Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis, but Braeburn activates Attack Invulnerability, preventing Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina’s destruction by battle. Damage is still applied. Braeburn, Helena, and Scott’s Life Points: 3600 -> 3300 Chase attacks Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina with Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach. Braeburn, Helena, and Scott’s Life Points: 3300 -> 3200 Chase places 1 card face down and ends his turn. Status: Hand-0 Life-5900 Monsters-2 Face Down Cards-1 Braeburn’s Turn: Braeburn special summons Roaring Express Train Rocket Arrow, as he controls no cards. (ATK: 5000 DEF: 0). Braeburn then activates Xyz Plant, special summoning itself as a token with the same level as a monster he controls. Braeburn overlays Roaring Express Train Rocket Arrow and Xyz Plant to xyz summon Super Dreadnought Cannon Express Gustaph Max (ATK: 3000 DEF: 3000). Braeburn cannot conduct his battle phase because he special summoned Roaring Express Train Rocket Arrow. Braeburn activates Super Dreadnought Cannon Express Gustaph Max’s effect. By detaching 1 xyz material from it, Braeburn inflicts 2000 points of damage. Chase’s Life Points: 5900 -> 3900 Braeburn places 1 card face down and ends his turn. Status: Hand-0 Life-3200 Monsters-1 Face Down Cards-1 ____________________________________ Chase was starting to become angry again. ____________________________________ Chase’s Turn: Chase summons Chronomaly Mud Golem (ATK: 1700 DEF: 1000). Chase attacks Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina with Chronomaly Mud Golem. Chronomaly Mud Golem’s ATK is lower than Number 115: Nebula Angel Carina, so it is destroyed. Chase’s Life Points: 3900 -> 3300 Chase activates Card of Last Will, drawing 5 cards when a monster of his is destroyed. Since Chase’s life points are lower than Braeburn, Helena, and Chase’s, Number 171: Grand Harmonious Pipe Organ’s ATK is halved instead of doubled due to Megamorph’s effect (ATK: 6800 -> 1700). Chase attacks Number 171: Grand Harmonious Pipe Organ with Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach. Scott tries to activate Invincible Hero, but Chase activates Trap Jammer, negating and destroying Invincible Hero. Helena attacks Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis with Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, but Chase activates Stonehenge Shield, negating Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s attack, negating its effect, and reducing its ATK to 0 (ATK: 3000 -> 0). Helena summons Photon Circle in defense position (ATK: 1000 DEF: 1000). Helena places 2 cards face down and ends her turn. Status: Hand-3 Life-2100 Monsters-2 Face Down Cards-2 Chase’s Turn: Chase activates Chronomaly City Babylon’s effect, removing Chronomaly Mud Golem from play to special summon Chronomaly Aztec Mask Golem. Chase summons Chronomaly Cabrera’s Trebuchet (ATK: 0 DEF: 1800). Chase activates Chronomaly Cabrera’s Trebuchet’s effect. By tributing 1 monster he controls, he can switch Chronomaly Cabrera’s Trebuchet into defense position and lower the ATK of one monster on the field to 0, choosing Super Dreadnought Cannon Express Gustaph Max (ATK: 3000 -> 0). Chase attacks Super Dreadnought Cannon Express Gustaph Max with Number 33: Machu Mach, but Helena activates Negate Attack. Chase ends his turn. Super Dreadnought Cannon Express Gustaph Max’s ATK returns to normal (ATK: 0 -> 3000). Status: Hand-3 Life-3300 Monsters-3 Face Down Cards-1 ____________________________________ “Stop it!” yelled Chase. “You’re only delaying the inevitable.” “No,” said Braeburn. “We’re just setting up the inevitable.” “Shut up. Scott summons Vylon Charger (ATK: 1000 DEF: 1000). Scott activates Photon Lead, special summoning a level 4 or lower LIGHT monster from his hand, choosing Vylon Vanguard (ATK: 1400 DEF: 1000). By detaching 1 xyz material from it, Scott can equip one monster that his opponent controls onto it, choosing Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach. Scott then equips Vylon Disigma with Mist Body, preventing its destruction in battle. Scott attacks Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis with Vylon Disigma, but Chase activates Thunder Pot, negating the attack and ending the battle phase. Scott activates Double Cyclone, destroying a spell or trap card that he controls to destroy a spell or trap chase controls. Scott destroys Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mach to destroy Chronomaly City Babylon. Scott places 1 card face down and ends his turn. Status: Hand-0 Life-2100 Monsters-1 Face Down Cards-1 Chase’s Turn: Chase activates Dian Keto the Cure Master, gaining 1000 life points. With Chronomaly Mayan Machine’s effect, it can count as 2 tributes for the summoning of a Machine-type monster. Braeburn tributes Chronomaly Mayan Machine to summon another Ancient Gear Golem. Chase activates Rainbow Life, discarding 1 card to gain life points he would lose this turn. Braeburn attacks Chronomaly Cabrera’s Trebuchet with Ancient Gear Golem. With Ancient Gear Golem’s effect, it can deal piercing damage. Rainbow Life makes Chase gain life points in place of damage. Chase’s Life Points: 4300 -> 5500 Braeburn ends his turn. Status: Hand-0 Life-800 Monsters-1 Face Down Cards-0 ____________________________________ “Sorry about that,” said Braeburn to his teammates. “I didn’t mean to give him life points.” “That’s fine, said Scott. "As long as he doesn’t get to use that monster’s effect again, I’m great.” “As if I need that petty monster to defeat you!” yelled Chase. ____________________________________ Chase’s Turn: Chase attacks Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon with Number 6: OOPArts Atlanthal, but Helena activates Iron Resolve, halving her life points to negate the attack. Braeburn, Helena, and Scott’s Life Points: 800 -> 300 Chase places 1 card face down and ends his turn. Status: Hand-0 Life-5500 Monsters-1 Face Down Cards-1 ____________________________________ Helena fainted due to the damage she lost. She found herself in the same void she found herself when she was able to chaos xyz summon. “What’s going on now?” she asked out loud. Suddenly, her gold locket pulled itself off of Helena’s neck. It floated about five feet in front of her and glowed brightly, causing Helena to recoil from the brightness. When she looked back, she saw a figure floating in front of her. She was wearing an elegant black and red dress. Helena knew who this was though by her familiar glasses. Melanie. “Melanie?” asked Helena, dumbfounded. “Hey Helena.” “What is this? How are you talking to me?” “I’m a spirit now. I’ve actually always been with you, like a guardian angel, through your period of despair up until this moment. You slipped out of consciousness, and this is the best way I can talk to you. I can see you’re in a bit of a pickle.” “Yeah.” Helena looked sadly away. Melanie’s spirit brought Helena’s chin up with her fingers. “Hey, don’t be like that. I want to let you know that from what I’ve seen you do in this world, and how you’ve treated my old deck, I couldn’t be more proud of you.” Helena couldn’t fight her tears. “Thanks. But I can’t hold off Chase much longer. We’re going to lose. And then we’re going to die.” “Don’t be such a drama queen. Here, let me help you.” Melanie hugged Helena. “What are you doing?” “I won’t let you lose this duel like this. Just take a deep breath and kick that guy’s ass.” Helena inhaled. She then saw Melanie’s spirit fuse into her body. Then, extreme brightness. ____________________________________ Helena woke up to find herself back in the room where they were dueling. She looked around her to see everyone, including Chase, look at her with shock. She then looked at her hands, and saw that they were black. She then looked at a nearby mirror and saw that her body was emitting a red aura, and that where her body was normally white, it was red, and where it was green, it was black. She then remembered: Melanie wore black and red. She understood now that Melanie’s spirit had fused with her own. Touching her locket as a silent thank you, she then casted her gaze at the frightened Chase. “This is where we win,” she said. “This will be the last time you call me a bitch.” ____________________________________ Helena’s Turn: Helena activates Mystical Space Typhoon, destroying Chase’s face down card. Next, Helena activates Overlay Regenerate, attaching itself as xyz material to Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis. Next, Helena tributes Ancient Gear Golem and Vylon Disigma to summon Photon Kaiser (ATK: 2000 DEF: 2800). When Photon Kaiser is normal summoned, Helena can special summon another Photon Kaiser from her deck. Helena overlays Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and her 2 Photon Kaisers to xyz summon Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon (ATK: 4500 DEF: 3000). If this card is xyz summoned using Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon as xyz material, the effects of all other cards on the field are negated. Helena activates Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s effect. By detaching 1 xyz material from it, all xyz materials are detached from xyz monsters that her opponent controls, and then it gains 500 ATK for each of them (2) (ATK: 4500 -> 5500). Furthermore, Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon can attack as many times as the number of xyz materials detached by this effect (2). Helena attacks Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis with Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. Chase’s Life Points: 5500 -> 2600 Helena attacks Chase directly with Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. Chase’s Life Points: 2600 -> 0 Braeburn, Helena, and Scott win. The last attack was so powerful, that Chase was vaporized by the attack, where he would finally stay dead. The only thing that remained in the area where he stood was his duel disk, the restored Element of Generosity, and the stone Rarity was frozen in. The element then freed Rarity. Braeburn was elated to see his lover alive and well. They hugged each other affectionately. Helena and Scott looked on happily. Soon a red smoke rolled off of Helena, restoring her to her original colors. Everyone in the room looked to see as the smoke formed into Melanie’s spirit. Her spirit immediately flew towards Scott and hugged him like a giddy fangirl. Scott was offset by this spirit groping him. “Who is this?” he asked, scared. “This is Melanie,” said Helena. “She was my original trainer. The photon deck I use was hers before she died. And needless to say, she had a big crush on you.” “You don’t say.” Melanie went to introduce herself to Rarity and Braeburn. “You must be Rarity and Braeburn. You two seem to make a charming couple.” “I must say,” said Rarity. “I love your dress. I have to remember that design.” “Thanks,” she responded. “They’re what we’re given in the afterlife.” “If I had known that there were such magnificent dresses in the world of the dead, I would have tried dying years ago.” She caught herself. “No offense.” “None taken. But seriously, you have so much to live for, both of you.” As she floated towards Scott again, Rarity and Braeburn nuzzled. “I still can’t believe I’m in front of my idol!” said Melanie. “Anyways, it’s been great meeting you. Thank you so much for taking Helena in.” Scott caressed her hand and gave it a small kiss. “You did a wonderful job raising her.” Melanie, even as a spirit, almost fainted. She caught herself to have a last word with Helena. “Well, I guess this is goodbye,” said Helena. “No, it’s never goodbye.” She and Helena hugged, as Braeburn, Rarity, and Scott watched tearfully. Melanie’s spirit condensed into a small red light and assimilated herself with Helena’s locket. Helena gently clasped the locket in her hands, a single tear running down her cheek. Suddenly, the doors to the exit opened, prompting everyone to leave and face their next challenge.
