It has been nine years since Princess Celestia, Princess Luna and Princess Cadence’s disappeared from Equestria never to be heard from again. This forced Celestia’s royal foals to quickly seize the rulership of Equestria before the dark elements within their beloved homeland could steal away the two main thrones of Equestria: The Throne of the Sun and The Throne of the Moon. The quick actions done by Princess Aurora Silverlight and her brother Prince Somnus Silverlight denied the dark element from seizing control of the main thrones of Equestria. 
But that left The Throne of Love up for grabs in the Crystal Empire without the stewardship of Princess Cadence to oversee the Empire that changed their focus to the Crystal City. To prevent the Crystal Empire from falling to the dark element, the newly crowned Princess of the Sun, Aurora Silverlight, had to appoint a new steward to the Crystal Empire. She looked first to Cadence’s baby daughter, Princess Flurry Heart, but she was still too young to take over. Next, she looked toward Princess Cadence’s husband Prince Shining Armor. Being a great Captain of the Canterlot Royal Guard, he is no monarch. Next, she looks toward Princess Cadance’s sister-in-law, Princess Twilight Sparkle, but quickly drops it. If Twilight was appointed to the stewardship of the Crystal Empire, the dark element would target the throne of friendship which would put Equestria in danger.
So Aurora was forced to look within her capital city, Canterlot, to find a new surrogate steward of the Crystal Empire. That’s when it hit her; there was one pony that trained under the watchful eye of Princess Cadence. That pony was her own little sister, Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight. She trained under Princess Cadence so she could master her potent healing magic. That night before handing over the rule of Equestria to her brother, Aurora called her little sister to the throne room of the palace. She explained to her what her plan was for her. At first, she declined her big sister’s plan not wanting to take away Princess Cadence’s memories from her ponies in the Crystal Empire.
The rebuff to take over the Stewardship of the Crystal Empire by her little sister hurt her big sister, but she was not going to force her to take over the empire if she didn’t want to and left it at that. As Princess Blueberry was leaving the throne room, she ran into her big brother Prince Somnus. The two siblings spoke for awhile and she told him what their big sister wanted her to do. Prince Somnus told her it was the best option. As for taking away the memories of princess Cadence, it wouldn’t happen. She’s more like Princess Cadence than any other pony he knows. The following morning, Princess Blueberry met her big sister Princess Aurora before morning court and told her she would be happy to take over the Stewardship of the Crystal Empire, till Princess Flurry Heart came of age.
In the Crystal Empire, the whole population of the Crystal Ponies was none to happy to learn that the new Princess of the Sun, Aurora Silverlight, appointed a new Steward of the Crystal Empire that was not from within their own land. But that all changed when the train from Canterlot arrived in the Crystal City and the Crystal Pony population saw who disembarked the train. It was Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight: the new steward of the Crystal Empire. She was a fixture at the side of Princess Cadence during the many years she trained under the Princess to master her healing magic. After the birth of Princess Flurry Heart, Princess Blueberry left the Crystal Empire and became the representative of the Throne of Love in Canterlot. But every so often, she would return to the Crystal City and the crystal ponies she loved just as much as Princess Cadence did to visit.
The many years under the rulership of Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight the surrogate princess of love was a golden age. Flurry Heart was coming close to the age to rule the empire. She learned she was born an alicorn and not any of the lower breeds. This made her head swell with superiority. Without her mother Princess Cadence to snuff out her swelled head, the showdown between Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight and Princess Flurry Heart came to ahead. The first shots were fired by Princess Flurry Heart when she demanded Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight give up her mother’s throne and let her rule as the rightful Alicorn princess of the Crystal Empire.
To placate the ego driving Princess Flurry Heart, Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight engaged in a ploy. She told Princess Flurry Heart it would take her sometime for her to depart the throne and she must wait. Princess Flurry Heart believed the ploy hook, line and sinker. In that time, Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight spoke to each of the other rulers in Equestria and even Flurry Heart father’s, Prince Shining Armor. All the rulers and Shining Armor felt if Princess Flurry Heart should take over the Throne of Love now, with her ego, it would destroy all her mother’s work. With that in mind, Princess Flurry Heart once again demanded Princess Blueberry hand over the throne; she was reprimanded by Princess Blueberry for her ego.
The reprimand by a normal unicorn mare, whom magic was nowhere near her power level, stung Princess Flurry Heart’s ego. In the next few minutes, Princess Flurry Heart attacked Princess Blueberry demanding she take back the scolding of a born Alicorn princess. Princess Blueberry refused to fight Princess Flurry Heart and just dodged out of the way of her attacks. She started to attack more wildly putting every pony in danger within the Crystal Palace throne room. Princess Blueberry charged-up her lowest powered magic beam and fired it at Princess Flurry Heart, thinking it was a weak beam she took the hit. She soon learned very painfully that she was wrong as the beam slammed her hard against the back wall of the throne room. 
Princess Flurry Heart stood flabbergasted with the magic level of this normal unicorn mare, in attempt to save face and pick-up the pieces of her broken ego. She demanded to know how a weak unicorn breed like her had that much power. Angry by being called (a weak unicorn breed, a word Blueberry was called for most of her life by ponies who didn’t believe she was the younger daughter of Princess Celestia). She turn toward Princess Flurry Heart and said “I am not a weak unicorn. I am half Alicorn. I might not have the wings of my mother Princess Celestia Silverlight. but I have my mother’s power.” Blueberry revealing that she, the younger daughter of the most powerful Alicorn Princess in Equestria caused hostility between Princess Flurry Heart and Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight too steep for years after being beaten by Blueberry in front of the crystal pony population.
Meanwhile in Canterlot, the transition from the rule of Princess Celestia Silverlight to her oldest daughter Princess Aurora Silverlight was not going as smoothly as Aurora would have hoped. Greedy nobles started to make plans to sneakily take the two main thrones of Equestria out from under Princess Aurora and Prince Somnus. By finding a magical stand-in for both Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, as the two Princesses. By this time they had disappeared two years earlier. 
To stem this plan of the greedy nobles, Princess Aurora with her siblings by her side, declared that her mother Princess Celestia, her aunt Princess Luna and her cousin Princess Cadence had died. This disclosure sunk the greedy nobles plan to make a magical stand-in for the princesses. Because this means that they must prove that the princess’s doubles are the real deal which is impossible to do with magic.
Now with all the vacant thrones now secure from being taking by any of the greedy nobles, Princess Aurora Silverlight sets to work ruling her mother’s Equestria and the ponies that live there. Princess Aurora’s first royal order was to change her mother’s long standing title of Princess of the Sun. To Grand Princess of the Sun. By doing so, this secured her own future and she will not be judged as the Princess of the Sun. Next, the Grand Princess transformed her middle brother Prince Somnus Silverlight into a male Alicorn (she could do the spell only once). After the transformation, like his big sister, he changed his aunt’s long standing title of Princess of the Moon. To Grand Prince of the Moon, for the same reason as his big sister did. Lastly, Princess Blueberry Swirl Silverlight adopted the title of Grand Princess as she feels she had no right to be called the Grand Princess of Love. she never planed to hold the Throne of Love forever.
