//------------------------------// // Getting ready for the Ball // Story: The Hearts and Hooves Day Ball // by Snug-Brony //------------------------------// Hearts and Hooves Day Ball It started it out as a normal day. Twilight was doing some reading up on Hearts and Hooves Day because it was coming up soon. Spike was sweeping and cleaning out some old dusty books. “Spike, did you know that Hearts and Hooves day became a holiday to remind people of true love so they wouldn’t need to make the love poison?” Twilight asked. Spike was about to respond, but he was interrupted by an incoming letter. “I wonder what this letter is about.” Twilight wondered while she opened up the letter and began to read. “Dear my most faithful student Twilight Sparkle, As you may know Hearts and Hooves Day is coming up and the annual Canterlot Hearts and Hooves day ball. I would like to formally invite you to the event. I know what you’re thinking don’t you need a date to get into the ball? Well I took it upon myself to ask my nephew, Prince Blueblood if he will be your date and he said that he’d love too. Please write me back if you would like to go with him he is a very nice guy sometimes you just have to get past some of his imperfections. I really hope that you accept my offer I think it is good for you to have some relationship experience. Your brother and sister-in-law showed that the magic of love is very powerful thing too. I will be very excited to see you there! Sincerely, Princess Celestia P.S. If any of your friends have a very special somepony then they can attend the event also.” Twilight just stared at the letter forever reading it again three or four times. She had never had a very special somepony before and now Celestia is encouraging her to have one. And wasn’t Prince Blueblood that guy who was very rude to Rarity at the Gala? Maybe he is different now; I mean Celestia set him up with me. I can’t just go against my teacher like that. Maybe she wants me to start researching the magic of love instead of friendship. *** Twilight dropped the letter and ran over to Rarity’s Carousel Boutique. “Rarity your never gonna believe what Celestia’s letter said,” Twilight called. “Alright, but I’m very busy at the moment,” Rarity Answered with her magic holding up a green piece of fabric, a needle, and a sapphire. “Ok, it said that well…,” Twilight muttered. “Well come out with it,” Rarity chimed in while she was sewing the green fabric on the neck of a larger blue piece. “It said that she is invited me to a date with Prince Blueblood,” Twilight declared. “What?” Rarity hollered as she dropped all of her supplies and ripping a hole in the dress she was making. “Twilight you can’t go on a date with that with monster!” Rarity yelled. “But Rarity Celestia made it sound very important to go on this date and I can’t just disappoint her she is my teacher you know she might even fail me,” Twilight pleaded. “Twilight, I’m only telling you this because I care about you please don’t go. I don’t want you to be hurt. Please Twilight, just make an excuse on why you can’t go,” Rarity stressed. “Rarity maybe this is a good chance for me to learn about the magic of love and maybe I will like him. I just want to have fun at a dance in Canterlot for just one night,” Twilight begged. “Well if really means that much to you then I guess you can go on your date, but don’t say that I didn’t warn you,” Rarity uttered. “Thank-you Rarity.” *** “How could she, Spike? Just too completely ignore my advice and now she will be the one who will get hurt. Why didn’t she listen? I told her many times about my horrible night with Prince Blueblood and now she thinks that he could be her very special somepony? She is going to have a horrible time and then she will be regretting not listening to me,” Rarity complained. “Well you know Twilight she will do anything for Princess Celestia even if she secretly knows that she will have a horrible night,” Spike reassured. “Spike can I see the letter that Celestia gave Twilight?” Rarity asked. “Sure,” Spike responded handing the letter over to Rarity. Rarity levitated it reading it over. She almost laughed when Celestia talks about his “imperfections.” When she was about to drop the letter she noticed the P.S. and it gave her an idea. All I need to do is get a date and I can watch over (spy) on Twilight to stop her from making a big mistake. “Spike, how would you like to go to the Hearts and Hooves Day Ball with me?” Rarity asked. “Oh my gosh, of course Rarity. I’ll wear that bow tie you made me and my good suit,” Spike rejoiced blushing more than he ever has before. Rarity knew that she will need some help from a Pegasus and Fluttershy would never do something like spying. *** Rarity walked over towards Rainbow Dash’s cloud home. “Rainbow Dash are you home?” Rarity called. “Yea, I’ll be out in a second,” Rainbow hollered out. Rainbow then flew out doing a nosedive almost crashing into Rarity, but at the last second shooting back up into the air and then preforming a slide landing. “Hey Rarity what’d ya want?” Rainbow Dash asked. “Well I was wondering if you will help me spy on Twilight at the Hearts and Hooves Day Ball,” Rarity responded. “Why do you want to spy on Twilight?” Rainbow interrogated. “Well it’s not really spying more just watching over her so she doesn’t make a huge mistake. Princess Celestia set her up with Prince Blueblood!” Rarity explained. “Prince Blueblood, but you told us all that he was a complete jerk. Sure I’ll help you keep an eye on Twilight,” Rainbow announced. “Ok, but you’re going to need a date to get into the event.” “A date, no way. Sorry you’re going to need to get another pony to help you. I’m sorry, but I’m horrible at dates. It all goes back to flight school I mostly hanged out with guys because they always wanted to race and show off their tricks. That’s where I met Gilda because she mostly hanged out with the guys too. I just always saw them as friends and never someone I’d ever go out with. That all changed when I met Thunder Flicker. He was the most handsome colt that I have ever seen. He had a light blue coat with a long yellow mane. His cutie mark was two lightning bolts in the shape of a X. And his eyes were the most beautiful yellow they were very electrifying. I thought he was handsome and all, but I shook the idea because he looked like one of those prissy ponies that never does any extreme flying. I was wrong. I watched his exam to get into the school and he finished out with this amazing move were he slams into a cloud making adjacent lightning bolts that looked similar to his cutie mark. I couldn’t talk to Gilda or any of my guy friends about my crush, so I talked to my only other female friend Fluttershy who I haven’t seen very much since she moved to Ponyville. Fluttershy and I were unusual best friends, but I gave her confidence and she gave me kindness. We were assigned wing buddies in flight kindergarten and we have been best friends ever since. When I told Fluttershy about Thunder Flicker she told me how I was always talking about confidence and that I should just ask him on a date,” Rainbow went on, but she suddenly looked over at Rarity to see if she was paying attention. “Am I boring you?” Rainbow asked. “No not at all I love, love stories I just can’t imagine you with a very special somepony,” Rarity not meaning to, but she chuckled. “Well I did and as I was saying I went back to Cloudsdale I walked up to him. I didn’t really know what to say so I just pretended that he was one of my usual guy friends. I told him that was an awesome move that he performed. He responded Thank you; you’re Rainbow Dash aren’t you? I heard about that Sonic Rainboom you preformed. That must have been a quite amazing site to see, but not as amazing as you. That voice was mesmerizing and he said that I was amazing I was probably as red as Big Mac when he said that. I almost just flew away, but I knew that Fluttershy would be disappointed. I just spit out the words and they hardly even came out; do you want to go on a date sometime. I was so embarrassed it felt like hours before he finally said that would love too. I was so relived, but the date went horrible. I’m not going to explain it in great detail because I hate thinking about that night. Basically, he kept trying to make conversation, but I was so nervous that I only gave 1 word answers. If you could believe it I was shyer than Fluttershy! When the waiter asked what he wanted to eat I had no idea what was acceptable to get on a date so I got water just water. That wasn’t even the worse. I eventually stopped being so nervous and we started talking. During a conversation about the Wonderbolts I mentioned on how I wanted to be a part of them and he said that I was an excellent flier and that someday my dreams will come true. We started moving closer together now. I said that he was just saying that and that he was a better flier than me. We now move closer. He said that I am way better than him. Very close to each other now. Maybe we’ll just have to have a race sometime. Thunder then started leaning in to kiss me and you know what I did? I flew as fast as I could out of the restaurant. I avoided him until I graduated flight school. He always tried to talk to me, but I just couldn’t I would just be way too embarrassing. And that’s why I can’t help you.” “Wait! IDEA! I know Thunder Flicker!” Rarity announced. “How?” Dash wondered. “When I was at Canterlot and met Fancy Pants we went to a Wonderbolts show. Afterwards we went over to talk to the Wonderbolts. I didn’t want them to know that I accidentally knocked out some of the Wonderbolts one time, so I talked to one I have never seen before. He told me that he was a Wonderbolt in training and that he was waiting for somebody. I knew the name Thunder Flicker sounded familiar and it was him. I think that I have his number somewhere I have a bunch of people from Canterlot’s number after the week I go see if I have his.” “I can’t just go to this dance with him after all these years.” “You have too, you guys were meant to be together. Remember your conversation with him about the Wonderbolts? Well you have to be the one that he is waiting for. I see why you liked him he reminds me a lot of you.” “Well I guess if you can call him and find out if he was really talking about me.” “Yea! Good bye Rainbow Dash I have a call to make!” Rarity then ran towards her house faster than Rainbow has ever seen her go before. *** When Rarity got home she turned her house upside down until she found a small paper with name Thunder Flicker on it. She immediately called the number on the paper. “Hello is this Thunder Flicker?” Rarity asked. “Yes, and who am I talking to?” Thunder responded. Rarity held the phone away for a second to do a girly scream. “This is Rarity and does the name Rainbow Dash ring a bell to you?” “Rainbow Dash…..I joined the Wonderbolts training program hoping that one day I will meet her again do you really know her?” “Yes she is one of my friends and she would like to go to the Hearts and Hooves Day ball with you.” “Really? Of course I will go with her. I tried to talk to her back at flight school and tell her how I felt about her and how I’m not mad at her for being so nervous.” Thunder stated. This time when Rarity did her girly scream this time it was loud enough for Thunder to hear. “Umm? Well tell Rainbow that I’ll be wearing a black tuxedo with my fliers badge and I’ll be standing next to the Storm Sprint the first Wonderbolt statue.” “Ok I’ll let her know and I’ll see you there.” Rarity always likes to encourage Rainbow Dash to be more feminine and now she’s gonna have a very special somepony! Rarity remembered that she’s going with Spike. Why did she have to ask Spike just to get his hopes up? I mean Rarity loved Spike, but just more as a brother. She really did hate getting his hopes up. She just wishes that Spike would like Sweetie bell they are more the same age. Rarity thought that she’ll just give Spike the night of his life and maybe Rarity will end up liking Spike like he likes her. Now she’ll have to spend time with Spike, see how Rainbow’s date’s going, and to make sure Twilight doesn’t get hurt by Prince Blueblood. This is going to be a night she’ll never forget.
