High Above The Clouds

High Above The Clouds

The sun shone down brightly over the land of Equestria. The sky was a blue as sapphires, dotted with small white clouds placed there by pegasi. Racing between the clouds, a baby blue pegasus could be seen. This stallion was on his way from Cloudsdale to Ponyville, to visit a friend of his. He soared through the sky, for which he was named. He arrived at the large, floating, cloud mansion that hovered in the sky on the outskirts of Ponyville. From it you could see all of Ponyville from Twilight's castle to Sweet Apple Acres. Soarin landed gentlely on the cloud platform. He was dressed casually as it was one of the wonderbolts days off. All he carried with him was a small satchel for his water bottle and a few bits. He trotted up to the door of the huge cloud house. He found the rainbow waterfalls on either side of the door to be a very nice touch. He knocked his hoof on the door three times, starting a little rythem in his head. A few moments later he was greeted by a cyan mare with a rainbow coloured mane.

"Soarin?" the mare said in suprise, clearly not expecting him to call. She had a pink dressing gown on with turtle slippers. She blushed slightly as she realised she wasn't the most presentable. The baby blue stallion smirked and looked at the ground.

"Is it a bad time?" he asked, feeling slightly embarassed, realising he had most likely interrupted the mare's day off.

"No it's fine." the rainbow mare said, blushing once again."What brings you to Ponyville?" she asked becoming a bit more relaxed.

"Well I was wondering if you would like to go for a flight? Just the two of us." Soarin said, looking the mare in her magenta eyes. She was caught off guard by the question.

"Like a date?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. The stallion quickly had an embarassed look on his face.

"Well I guess you could call it date. I just wanted to know if you wanted to join me for a flight?" he asked, trying to act nonchalant. The mare didn't buy it. She looked at the stallion with an innocent look.

"Let me get changed and I'll be right out." she said, turning around and heading back inside her house, leaving the door ajar."Feel free to come inside." she shouted as she went upstairs. The stallion stepped into the front hall. The interior was just as nice on the inside. Soarin waited in the hallway, brushing his hoof against the floor, the tune from earlier entering his head again. Rainbow Dash reappered a while later, with a small satchel of her own.

"Ready to go?" she asked the stallion.

"Ladies first." he said gesturing to the door. She smirked at him.

"Don't mind if I do, means I get the advantage." she said. The stallion watched her leave the house with a confused look.

"What advantage?" he asked, closing the door behind him as he exited the house.

"The advantage in the race we are about to have." the cyan marr said jumping into the air."First one to get to Sweet Apple Acres and then to Twilight's castle wins." she said as she shot off in the direction of the farm.

"Damn that mares a quick one." Soarin said racing to catch up with her. He eventually reached her just a bit after Sweet Apple Acres. The two were neck and neck on the way to Twilight's castle. Rainbow Dash pulled ahead just ay the last second. The two landed on the steps of the castle.

"Good race. Maybe one day you might be fast enough to beat me." the mare said in triumph.

"Wanna put those words where your mouth is?" the stallion shot back with a friendly smile. The mare only grinned."First one to climb to a thousand feet then down again. Loser has to buy the winner lunch." Soarin said.

"Deal." the rainbow mare said. The two ponies shook hooves. The second they let go Soarin launched himself into the air, leaving the rainbow mare gawking at his takeoff speed. She tried her best to catch him but to no avail. Soarin landed on the ground a while later, shortly followed by Rainbow Dash.

"I think I've earned myself a nice apple pie." the stallion beamed.

"Yeah sure." the cyan pegasus said as they walked over to sugatcube corner. Soarin enjoyed his victory pie, while Rainbow Dash had a vanilla milkshake. The talked for a while about the wonderbolts before leaving. They took off into the sky, towards Rainbow Dash's house. They flew up high above the clouds. They flew in silence. Eventually Soarin broke the silence.

"Today was really great Rainbow Dash." he said.

"Yeah, even though you beat me in that second race, today was nice." the rainbow mare replied.

"If you want we could meet up again next week. Maybe set the stakes a bit higher. Loser has to buy the winner dinner." the stallion asked, glancing over at the rainbow mare. She looked at him and for a moment their eyes locked. Rainbow Dash quickly looked away blushing.

"I think I can agree to that." she said with a small smile on her face. Soarin nearly did a loop de loop out of joy but decided to play it cool. He looked back at the rainbow mare."It will be nice to have somepony buy me dinner after I beat them in a race." she said pulling ahead. Soarin grinned at the mares competitive spirit. It was one of the many, many things that he loved about her.
