The Comforting Mountain.

Winter in Manehatten

I looked out my window to see little snowflakes falling; I smiled and ran downstairs to greet my mother.

"Good morning honey why are you so excited?" she smiled.

"Mommy it's snowing!" I said excitedly. My mother opened the kitchen curtains.

"It is snowing, do you and your brother want to build a snowman?" she asked. I nodded with a huge smile on my face. She shook her head. "Put your coat on at least" my mom yelled up the stairs I sighed and put my coat on and my scarf. My brother was fast asleep, so I decided not to wake him, I ran outside and started to work on a snowman right away. As I finished the first part of the snowman, I saw Rusty with his hat and green coat, I ran over to him.

"Rusty!! Do you want to help me with my snowman?" I asked him. He nodded.

"I will Blackie," he smiled. We headed over to the base of my snowman, and Rusty started to get the middle of it ready. I ran inside quick.

"Mommy, can I have some buttons, a carrot, and some blueberries?" I asked. She smiled at me. While grabbing the things I needed.

"Let me guess, are these for your snowman?" she said with a smile. I nodded. She handed me my things and looked outside. "I take it that's Rusty?" she smiled. I blushed and nodded. "Well he'll be joining us for breakfast" my mom finished. I smiled at her as I ran back outside, I put the things on the porch and helped Rusty finish the middle of the snowman. Rusty and I started to push the middle of the snowman into place, and I smiled to him once we finished it. I heard the front door close, and I looked over to see my father.

"Daddy, will you help Rusty and I with the top of the snowman?" I asked.

"of course" he smiled. Rusty and I got the top of the snowman ready while my dad waited to help put it in its place. Rusty and I put the last piles of snow on it and added ears, and my father smiled and picked it up with his wings.

"Wow your dad sure is strong," Rusty smiled.

"Yeah he is, he's the most powerful Pegasus in the world," I said proudly. My dad let out a chuckle as he started to put the finishing touches on our snowman, my brother came out next.

"Awe sissy you didn't wake me up, I could have helped you and Rusty," he pouted.

"It's okay champ, you can contribute to the snowman by putting the nose on it," my dad said. Letting my brother climb onto his back. My brother put the carrot on the snowman's face. He smiled proudly at his finishing touches. "Good job everypony," he said to us. My dad and my little brother walked into the house, and Rusty started to turn around to leave.

"Rusty, my mom said that it's okay if you wanted to stay for breakfast," I stated with a shy smile on my face. He nodded and followed me into the townhouse. My brother was watching his morning cartoons for the weekend, and I smiled at my mom as she started working on breakfast. Rusty and I walked into the living room to watch cartoons with my brother, and he was watching Loonyponies. After a while of watching cartoons I could smell pancakes, my mom always made the best pancakes. I got up to see how they were going, and she smiled at me as I walked into the kitchen. She had assorted fruit in bowls for each of us, we all liked different fruits. My brother's bowl had apples, oranges, and grapes in it, my dad's dish had pomegranate, grapefruit, and cantaloupe in it. My mom's had strawberries, peaches, and pears in it, my bowl had blueberries, watermelon, and honeysuckle in it. My mom wasn't sure what to put it Rusty's bowl, so she put all kinds in his. I sat down in my seat and got ready for this fantastic breakfast that I was about to eat, Rusty came in and sat next to me. I gave him a smile, and I could hear my father walking down the stairs. "Daddy, thank you for helping Rusty and I with our snowman" I beamed. My mother rolled her eyes.

"You're welcome sweetheart" my father finished in a weird tone. I shrugged and waited for my breakfast, and my mom handed me my plate. It only had one pancake. I sighed to myself and made due with it, and my mother liked to make sure we had a lot of food in the house. When it was breakfast or dinner time we never go much, I never really gave it much thought. My mother handed my father his plate, and I noticed they weren't making eye contact. I shrugged it off as nothing, and my mom started tapping her hoof on the kitchen floor.

"Bright Flash!! Get in the kitchen now!" my mother yelled. I jumped at her raised voice.

"Honey I'll get him, he is only five years old, and you know how short of an attention span he has," he said quickly. My mother scoffed and sat down. My father came in with my brother in tow, and my brother sat down next to my dad. He usually sat by mom, but not today with the way her temper was. My family ate quietly, and this was unusual to me. My father always talked about things, so did my mother. I started to get nervous, so I decided to say something to lighten the mood.

"I love you, momma," I stated with a small smile on my face. She looked at me for a moment and looked away. My ears flattened. "I love you, momma," I said again, my voice cracking. My mother sighed.

"Black Light honey not right now," she said quietly.

"But momma why won't you say I love you back?" I asked. My mother sighed and rubbed a hoof between her eyes.

"Because mommy doesn't feel like talking at the moment," she said I nodded. My eyes were tearing up, and I started sniffling.

"Really Bright Light? You're not going to say I love you to our daughter?" he said quietly.

"At the moment Black Flash No," she said. I started to cry, and my mom had her moments. She didn't like to say I love you, but she did say it at times. She also had a quick temper and was very awkward when it came to most conversations. Rusty looked at me and sighed, he had finished his breakfast and whispered goodbye Blackie, and I'll see you at school in a couple of days I nodded as he left. I whimpered a little, and the tears kept coming. "Black Light quit it!" my mother yelled. I jumped from her yelling, I got up and ran to my room. I heard my brother run up the stairs and into my room, we were huddled under my blankets. We heard our parents screaming at each other, all I could do was keep crying.

"Sissy, we're going to be okay?" he asked. I nodded. Our mother had never hurt us before, and I wasn't ever worried about that. At least I thought I never had to worry about it. I heard the door slam, and I heard hoof steps coming up the stairs. I held my breath hoping it wasn't my mother, and she scared me with how angry she got. My door opened, and I heard someone sigh.

"Kids it's your mother, please come out from under the covers" My brother, and I peeked our heads out from under the covers, she looked infuriated with us. I shuddered at the thought of our punishment, I wiped away the tears and got out from under the blanket. "That's a good girl," she said with a soothingly sick tone. My brother got out from under the covers as well, and we stood there in front of our mother. "I'm unhappy with you two, and you should have just eaten you're breakfast quietly and gone off to play outside. Instead, you caused your father and I to get into a fight" she said in an angry tone. I nodded my head quietly, and I looked up at her. All of a sudden I was knocked off balance and fell to the floor, my mouth tasted like copper. I opened my eyes, one eye I couldn't see very well out of. I looked over to see my brother on the floor with a bloody nose and mouth, and I started to cry as I tried to get up. I was sore and hurting, I crawled over to my brother and held him close to me. I could hear my mother talking to herself, and she sounded off. I slowly got up and closed my door quietly, I grabbed my pillows and my blanket and snuggled up close to my little brother. I'd do anything to protect him, and I wish I were awake to protect him from our mother. My floor had blood in several spots from my brother and me, and I started to cry. Parents aren't supposed to treat their flesh and blood like this. I heard the front door open downstairs, and I was pretty sure it was my father.

"Seriously, what is going on with you?," he sighed. I could hear him making his way upstairs, and opened the door. My brother and I were facing the other direction. "Oh my god, please tell me these two survived and are okay," he said quietly. He kneeled down close to us, and I could hear that he was crying. "Oh my little ones, she should have never laid a hoof on you two," he said nuzzling against us. I slowly opened my right eye.

"Daddy," I said faintly.

"Black Light you're alright" he exclaimed I nodded.

"Bright Flash is okay too, and he's breathing," I said quietly. My Dad laid down next to me and put a protective wing over my brother and me.

"There is no way you're going to school tomorrow," my father said. I could hear my mother talking to herself, and walking up the stairs. I pulled my brother closer and nuzzeled against my father. My mother walked into my room, my father looked up at her.

"How could you hurt our own children?" he seethed. My mother sighed.

"Because I don't love them" she yelled. My father stood up, my brother and I backed up until we were under my bed.

"So why did you have children in the first place then?" he glared at my mother.

"Because I thought I would enjoy having my own children" she sniffled. "But one was born with deformed wings and they had to be removed. And the other one has weird colored hooves and legs, my legs and hooves aren't that color" "Your hooves and legs aren't that color" my mother finished. My father sighed.

"Her legs and hooves are that color because of me, my mother on my side has hooves that color and my father has the multi-colored legs" My father glared at my mother. "I want you out of my life, I want you to stay away from my children" My father yelled. My mother laughed as she walked out of my room.

"Gladly, you won't ever see me again" She finished as she walked out of the house. I came out from under my bed and looked at my father.

"Daddy is mommy coming back?" I asked, he shook his head. "Good" I said quitely. My father hugged me tightly.

"Black Light I'm sorry that she hurt you" he sniffled. I hugged him back.

"It's okay now that she's gone" My brother sighed.

"I'm going to make sure you never have to deal with her again" My father sighed.
