Chapter 26: Decisions and Responsibilities
Rainbow Dash laid silently on her bed a few days later, her head in her hooves as her throbbing headache continued to pound at her skull, refusing to stop short and let her get some rest.
Soarin was besides her, also not having much luck in the sleep department. He turned over to face her, and the two locked eyes. He gave Dash a goofy grin, as she rolled her eyes.
"Dashie, are you alright?" he asked, seeing how uncomfortable she was. Rainbow Dash nodded slowly, before grabbing her head from the sudden pain.
"Yeah, sorry... tension headache," she mumbled to him. Soarin's eyebrows furrowed as he examined her.
"A tension headache? Why on earth would you be getting a tension headache in the middle of the night?" he asked. Rainbow Dash groaned, sliding further into the bed as he kept his eyes trained on her small figure.
"No reason... just forget it," she said, trying desperately to close her eyes to get some rest.
Soarin frowned. "You haven't gotten any sleep for the past two days, Dashie. I'm worried," he said.
"Don't then! Just shut up and go to sleep!" Rainbow Dash suddenly snapped, causing Soarin to tumble back in bed. He looked at her with a confused expression.
"Uhm..." he said quietly, shaking his head, "alright then."
Rainbow Dash grumbled something under her breath, turning over so that her back was facing him. Soarin quirked his lip, looking at her suspiciously, before settling into a different position.
The two laid in a uncomfortable silence for many minutes after that. Both knew the other wasn't sleeping, but they didn't do anything about it.
What seemed like hours later, Rainbow Dash blurted out, "I'm pregnant."
Soarin immediately gasped, sputtering into a coughing state. Rainbow Dash turned on her side to face him with a meaningful look. Soarin looked at her in shock, his mouth wide open as they stared at each other.
"... What did you say?" Soarin finally said in a low whisper.
Rainbow Dash took a deep breath. "I mean... I'm not completely sure; I haven't taken a test yet... but all the signs I'm showing all point to one thing."
Soarin instantly broke into a huge grin.
"If we weren't laying down right now I'd totally pick you up and spin you around, but since we can't do that..." he said cheekily, bringing her in for a tight hug.
Rainbow Dash giggled under her breath. "So... you're happy?" she asked.
"Of course I am!" Soarin exclaimed, letting go of her and pecking her lips.
"I'll take the test tomorrow..." Rainbow Dash sighed happily, leaning into Soarin as the two closed their eyes, ready for a peaceful night's sleep.
"Sweet Celestia..." Rainbow Dash said softly, not daring to believe her eyes.
"Well? What does it say?" Soarin's voice called from outside the bathroom.
Rainbow Dash grinned, walking up to the door and opening it wide.
"Positive."
Soarin whooped happily, picking her up and spinning her on his shoulders. Rainbow Dash laughed, looking down at him as they came in for another kiss.
"There we go! Now I can spin you!" Soarin teased, breaking away from her.
Rainbow Dash smirked. "Not for long though."
Soarin smiled, grabbing her hoof and leading her outside their room.
"Come on!" he exclaimed.
"Where are we going?" Rainbow Dash asked. Soarin looked back at her before speaking.
"To tell the rest of the family, of course!" he said. Rainbow Dash gasped, before nodding happily.
"Yes! Oh I can't wait to see the look on Scootaloo's face!" she said.
Soarin nodded as the two burst into the living room, immediately startling Scootaloo and Lilian Fly out of their trances.
They quickly stood up, concerned looks on their faces.
"Is something wrong?!" Lilian asked rapidly.
"Did anything happen to you? Do we need to call a doctor? What happened?" Scootaloo cut in.
"What's going on? Why are you looking at us like that?" Lilian stammered, noticing Dash and Soarin's grins.
"WILL SOMEPONY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?!" Scootaloo bellowed.
"Relax! Scootaloo!" Rainbow Dash said, holding her little sister's shoulders. Scootaloo instantly relaxed, looking at Soarin and Rainbow Dash as they glanced at each other.
Rainbow Dash backed away to lock hooves with Soarin. They smiled at each other, before looking back into the confused eyes of Scootaloo and Lilian.
"We're having a baby!" they exclaimed at the same time.
Chaos ensued from there.
Lilian let out a squeak as her mouth opened in shock. Scootaloo started screaming loudly, filling the air with her 'angelic' voice.
Rainbow Dash and Soarin grinned at the sight. Lilian walked closer to them.
"You're... you're pregnant?" she asked Rainbow Dash. Dash nodded.
"Yep! Proud and true!" she said, making Lilian quirk her head to the side.
"But... when did you guys-" Lilian started, before stopping herself. She looked over to Scootaloo, who was making her way towards them with a smirk on her face.
"Oh that's obvious. After their fight, in their beautiful little make-out... I mean... make-up session," she said slyly. Rainbow Dash gasped, hitting her hoof over her little sister's mouth as she and Soarin blushed profusely.
"Uh... are you okay with this?" Soarin asked Lilian, rubbing his hoof on the back of his neck. Lilian instantly broke into a huge grin.
"Well of course I am! I'm gonna be a kinda-great aunt!" she exclaimed. Rainbow Dash and Soarin laughed, making Scootaloo laugh along with them. Soon enough, Lilian joined them too.
"A new start, a new family," Scootaloo said in a definite manner.
Soarin nodded. "A new start," he said.
"A new family," Rainbow Dash joined in.
