I thought I'd leave a long and meaningful comment on this chapter, but...
Thirty-one. That's all.
(Kinda symbolic that it's Chapter Thirty-One, isn't it? Though, it might be sheer coincidence)
You done goofed, Littlepip!
Talking to one's self is extremely confusing.
I'm confused. what exactly is going on?
Orb number eight....*bow-chicka-wow-wow*.
...Little pip, does the phrase "Sentanced to the couch" mean anything to you?
Hot damn, I love this chapter. When I originally read this on my Kindle I thought the ereader file was messed up and I was missing a bunch of scenes. Then I realized you were doing it deliberately, and I fanboy'd.

All right, I'm still gonna leave a serious comment.
The whole deal with erased memories? Ingenious. No, really. It's ingenious. Not just genius, but also very fitting to the plot and extremely timely. This was the part where I sat staring into space, feeling like an idiot until I finally realised the plan. From this point, I just gulped down the rest of the story, eager to find out what the hell was going on. And, dammit, I was rewarded.
Great chapter. Great concept. Great plot. Great dialogue. Great interactions.
P.S. Thirty-one.
Ahh, I love that whole self-induced amnesia plot. It's such a completely unique way of storytelling. I've never seen that done anywhere else
Great!
3077190 Littlepip has a plan, but if she knows the plan then Trixie will know the plan as soon as shes in range with her telepathy. thus, Littlepip removed all her knowledge of the plan to keep it from Trixie...
So something that surprised me after I listened to a reading of this story and thought about it for a moment: Discord is nowhere to be found. Thank you for the originality.
Discord first appeared in Return of Harmony which first aired in September 2011 whereas Fallout Equestria was first published in April 2011

Discord is mentioned in the story. Who do you think leaves all those bottle caps in empty boxes throughout the Wasteland?
So... I wonder how Homage enjoyed her trip to Baskin Robbins
SPOILERS
Gawd is a griffon.
We would not. Your memories are indeed a major part of who you are, and without them you would be a different pony.
However, losing memories is a normal occurrence, and affects you no more than gaining memories does. Whether you want to change or not, you will. A metaphor I saw once and liked was that of a vector being translated in non-Euclidean space. For those who are not mathematically inclined (though not so disinclined as to make providing explanation beyond the reach of my feeble efforts), picture a vector embedded on the surface of a globe, specifically near West Africa where the prime meridian intersects the equator, and pointing towards the north pole. If you translate it directly up the prime meridian to the pole, it is now pointing towards the Pacific Ocean. But if you move it ninety degrees east, it is still pointing towards the pole, and so now if you translate it north it will end up pointing at North America. You can bring the vector to the north pole so as to have it pointing any direction you want, and all these vectors at the pole have equal claim to being the same vector that we started with on the equator. One will change as one goes through life, and one may have the option of multiple paths which lead to the same place in the end, yet the pony who will arrive there is entirely dependent upon which path is taken. Change is inevitable, and worrying about whether you will still be you afterwards is unproductive. Worry about whether you will be better or worse afterwards. Sometimes, losing the right memories may be an improvement.
That said, I don't know if I personally would or not, if I had any truly traumatic memories to potentially lose. I like how I ended up without generally thinking about how things would affect my personality, and I would be wary of taking more direct control. I don't know that I trust myself with that power.
Personally, I tend to separate what I know from how I know it, other than distinguishing what I know for sure from what I believe/speculate/heard from an unreliable source. And it works out well for me; I have complete faith in myself not to lie about such things, so if I say I've proven something, I don't need to ask myself how.
This is a hint. The hint reads: "Hellhounds have a motive to stay out of the hospital. Imagine something that hellhounds want to avoid." The hint is telling you the hospital is major bad news.
From the hellhounds, sure. Not so much from the reason for the aversion.
Just the hellhounds are reason enough for few ponies to have ever survived long enough to reach the hospital and remove supplies from the premises. And the hellhounds are hardly the only things you have to worry about. Trust me, you'll be fine on that front.
Oh, you wish. Possibly you wish it was either one.
This is your mission. This is why you can get away with not having a long-term plan. Because your secret goal does not require you to actively pursue it. It just requires you to faithfully work on short-term issues. You can do that without even knowing you have a larger quest.
No. No you aren't. You will probably never be rid of the psychological addiction, and as long as that's with you, any avoidable temptation is too much.
Just you wait (by which I mean run, and never stop). It gets worse.
Horrifying blob monsters coming to rape our mares . . . a traditional fear tactic, and one of the greatest heights of squick that can be reached without considerable effort.
Most. Disturbing. Monsters. In. The. Story.
"The straps are for your own good" is seldom a good sentence.
Oh, wouldn't it be nice if that had just been the remains of Peachy refusing to die.
Case in point about the "safety" of IMP. I don't trust anything where exposure to a slightly flawed batch can do this.
She's not the same pony she used to be. She hasn't been in a long time. She's seen death, frequently and vividly. Sometimes she has been the cause. She's treated slaves, to make sure they survive long enough to be sold, because she believed that was the most she could do for them. She's witnessed cruelty beyond the wildest dreams of the worst psychopath Stable 2 could ever theoretically produce. How could she remain the same?
I like this. I like the slight surreality as the various pieces of the scene don't quite fit together, and I especially like the phrasing on that last sentence.
That shouldn't matter, really. Whether nobody can kill anybody, or anybody can kill everybody, it's usually all the same. It just matters that everybody knows, and that nobody believes their destruction is inevitable. But, as it turns out, one out of two is pretty terrible.
The crack that destroyed the world. If the Mane Six had all been together, without their Ministries to distract them and pull them apart, they could have fixed things. I don't know exactly how (though the fact that megaspells would probably not have been invented would definitely help), but they'd find a way. Equestria's greatest heroes could take on any challenge, as long as they were together.
Ah, this project. I've never known what to think about this project. So I never passed any judgement at all, whether good or ill.
Don't bother. I think she's a bit high on painkillers, or stress, or something. She can hear you, but I don't think she can listen.
But what if there's ammo in there? Or a bottlecap or two? Or a bubblegum wrapper?
How am I supposed to build a proper bubblegum wrapper collection if I don't stop to search every trash can I see?
This transition certainly threw me for a while the first time.
Actually, it's kind of disorienting even armed with the knowledge it was going to happen.
You say that like she isn't quite happy to do exactly that. You should know by now that she could never voluntarily stop while there's still something she can do.
Really, if she didn't end up with a full-time job running Equestria's weather, she'd be rushing out to fight every problem she heard about for decades after the Day of Sunshine and Rainbows, no matter how civilized things became. Assuming she didn't run too thoroughly out of luck and die first, she'd only quit once she messed some operation up by being superfluous, unwanted, and too old for this (if then). There would be a period when an integral part of heroics was making sure that you had the issue completely wrapped up before Littlepip could arrive. It would at least delay the loss of jobs in the business, though, that "stay behind to delay Littlepip" would become a valuable and often essential duty.
You know you can't do that. You know you are too weak. And your friends hardly ever treat this like a serious problem. They suck.
A great way to sign a letter.
Many said you couldn't find three entirely different ways to try to kill yourself with memory orbs. Many thought three entirely different ways did not exist.
Many were wrong.
In your defense, you always have trouble taking instructions from yourself.
Oh, wait. I'm not so sure that was a defense. Definitely "you never have self control" is worse, so that won't work . . . yeah, you're pretty hopeless.
3079478
Same. I positively love it.
I was a little disappointed to have it spelled out so soon, but it's still gonna be really interesting.
Edit: Oh yeah, I had some kinda epiphany during this chapter, I believe while scouring the medical building, but I forget what it was. I'm not going to reread for it, though, even though I really wanted to post it. Would rather continue forward.
Maybe I'll remember it later. Ah well.
3079478
Self induced Amnesia plot telling has been done before.
3411538
Amnesia, sure, but self-induced, to make sure a plan worked without the main char himself/herself knowing the plan? Can you give any examples of that?
That zombie nearer the beggining wanted to rape her with its tounge.
3079478 Total Recall?
When that thing grabbed littlepip in the hospital and turned her around, I had that phrase pop into my mind and I know many others did too
"I have seen enough hentai to know where this is going"
brilliant though this story has me hooked, and I love playing fallout games so i can get nearly all the references.
/)(\ Brohoof!!
I really love Homage. She can be so sweet. And in the next she tortures Pip with embarrassment.
Thirty-one, the most torturous number.
Is that a reference to the Centaurs?
Then I saw this.
Alien Chest-Burster reference?
I was a little confused as to Littlepip's reaction when she figured out wha tthe Centaur wanted from her at first, but when I actually realized what it was I almost jumped out of my chair I was so skeeved.
Brilliant move with the orbs, bt.
Hmm. Looks like my w key is broken.
3077190 This is my first time reading this, but from I can tell, Littlepip has a plan to kill the Goddess, but since the Goddess is telepathic, LittlePip can't go to her knowing the plan.
I think at some point, Pip got Rarity's Black Book, or is about to and knows it.
The rest is a MYSTERY.
LittlePip's conversation with herself in the mirror was priceless. I love her profanities and how she knows to catch herself for her own curiousity.
Ahhhhh, that moment when you find a note from and to yourself only to find out that you were reprimanding yourself because you did something you told yourself not to do because you knew you'd do it. Don't you just love that?
I'm not follow-- OH. ...Yeah. Wow. I said before the creatures in this story really took the cake with them being scary. This is a whole new avenue of wrongness. Compliments to you, Kkat, for coming up with these abominations time and time again.
I laughed.
31 is a magic number.

"Neural pathway 0x63A82 rerouted through neural pathway 0x374E82. Standby... Full motor functions restored. Diagnostic reveals no critical failures... asshole."
I reread the previous few paragraphs till I guessed the reason I was so lost was on purpose.
“Hello? Ministry of Image, Mistress Rarity’s office.
1. Missing you closing quotation mark.
I would say that I feel for LilPip, I really do but one can only imagine the horror she was about to face that the Wasteland was about to throw at her and only managing to get rid of it. Of course the off hand comment of seeing enough hentai to know where this is going does come to mind and I feel ashamed for getting slightly aroused from it because it's LilPip.
Can LilPip truly say she knew the mare that she will see through those memory orbs once what's done is done? Possibly not seeing as she could be angry with herself since her past self thought there was no other way of doing what needed to be done. If said memory was bad but judging from how the Wasteland is treating her, it most likely is.
I know how Littlepip felt when she saw the 'Centaur'. My first reaction was 'What the everloving fuck is that!' It got damn close to me and I also realized it's spit was radioactive.
I wanted Rarity to kill Fluttershy then and there when she confessed to giving Megaspells to the zebras And when she said she couldn't breathe I was hoping that was Rarity's intention, but no. Let the traitor live, why not? And don't you dare tell me Rarity just approved her Necromancy-Horcrux-dresses. That would be terrible, and confirm what I thought when she told Applejack she was wrong so quickly after bringing it up.
No Xenith. It's not. It really is not.
I'm stealing that one. Was this really inspired by a cartoon?
And if I was speaking to myself in a memory orb like that I would be rambling just as much, if not more. I was waiting for an explanation about why it jumped from the talk with the griffons to her waking up in Helpinghoof's recovering room, which I presumed was for the Taint spell until Velvet bursts in. And does Velvet have a count with Calamity yet? It sounds like she could use one, a count that is, that chick needs a lot.
Ooooh, things are gonna get good! I've steered clear of spoilers so far. I can do this!
4658671 Spoiler Alert: Celestia does indeed rape Littlepip's cunt with the burning sun.
It happens after Littlepip kills and eats Discord.
Rule of thumb for any RPG fan. If something that can kill you is scared of somewhere then you either stay away or assume the worst. I know its probably Lilttlepip having wishful thinking but this is the kind of train of thought that leads people to their death.
This like one of those rape-y tentacle monsters?
I have a little plastic Blind Bag Peachy Pie on my desk, and as I was reading through this I just looked at her and mouthed "I'm so sorry..."
Tiny plastic pony gets extra hugs.
Funny you mention that...
I'm sure you can, but save your strength or you won't stand for long...
In other words, she offered to give him a hoof?
Aww...
Homage, you troll...
Velvet will think that you're pulling her leg...
I've seen too much internet to not know how it'll end...
Alien?
Well, she had plenty of bed rest in the last 200 years and her condition at least doesn't get worse...
Also, like I said yesterday, I didn't remember that part exactly and apparently thought that Brickbane and Peachy Pie were the same pony.
Way to go, Fluttershy...
But that's not as fun...
Do you have your towel?
Orb #8 is slightly NSFW...
I guess that's a rather shitty memory orb...
She knows herself well...
Which will soon come in handy... (though it'll creep her out)
I do remember having been confused by the sudden scene jumps that occurred, indicating Lilpip's extracted memories.
Normally, this is one of those moves a writer should avoid doing (Never leave an audience lost and confused, often just makes them lose interest), but in this story's case, I'd say it was done quite well, especially considering how quickly the confusion has been clarified upon.
There were a lot of clues here and in the last couple chapters that only become very obvious upon rereading. And it's only brought up (albeit not explicitly) again so long after the fact, most people would have forgotten about it.
And there is a tragic horror behind the first victim in that hospital, a relatively subtle one that I somehow missed the first time (I knew about the more obvious "something broke out of their pelvis", but that line "I knew where the other horrors came from", now that is just tragic).
Why is Xenith Chinese? ('Yao guai' means monster......)
5833587 Yao guais were a type of mutated bear in fallout 3 that some scavengers and caravan owners kept for pets, but could also be found in the wild, where unless you had animal friend perk rank 2 they attacked you. That's where it is from.
Also the war 200 years ago in fallout 3 lore was between the U.S. and China. Makes sense that the zebras were chinese, what with all the stealth suits and such, martial arts ect.
Ahhh, I love the Yao guai, they're so bucking awesome!
And damn it LP, you did it again.
STAY AWAY FROM THE DRUGGIES!
or I'll hug you and never let go... O^O
Keep it up! This is great!
And sexy... most importantly, sexy.
Deep
HA!
Perk up, Littlepip.

“Now, assuming I am me… and this is supremely weird. And I thought writing the note felt bizarre…” I paused, apparently re-gathering my train of thought. Did I usually ramble like this?
“Okay, the first big thing you need to know…” I stopped again. I felt my body deflate with a sigh.
“Dammit, Littlepip!” I said, stomping. “I’m watching this before I told me to, aren’t I?”
I felt a rush of embarrassment as I realized I had caught me.
“Celestia rape your cunt with the burning sun if I can’t even take simple instruction from myself! Do I have no fucking self control?”
I felt myself stomp again. Felt myself huffing. The entire memory was too surreal. “Dammit! Okay… sorry for that if I’m watching this when I should be. If so, I owe myself an apology.”
Taking a deep breath, I started again. “I’m going to make this short, just in case I’m the kind of idiot I’m afraid I am.” I gave myself a dark look, then continued. “First, by now you’ve already figured out that there are two kinds of memory spells. The first records a memory, like the spell enchanted into a recollector. The second extracts a memory completely. That’s the kind that the Ministry of Morale used when they weren’t being gentle.“
I felt myself frowning, and the Littlepip in the mirror frowned back.
“Second, I’ve got a plan for dealing with the Goddess. I’ve told everypony their parts, and just their parts. I’m the only pony who knows all of it. Unfortunately, we can’t do anything about the Goddess if we can’t even reach Maripony. And if I go in knowing the plan, Trixie can read it right out of my head. Game over. So…” I felt myself lift a foreleg and make a sweeping motion as the Littlepip in the mirror did exactly that.
Crap. I knew I was right. Other me, that is. Arrugh.
“So for the love of Celestia and Luna, for the love of Homage, don’t watch any more of the damn memory orbs until after you take the Black Book to Maripony.”
I stomped with a huff. “Seriously, I am so disappointed in me.” Then, sheepishly, I added, “That is, assuming I should be. If I really held out like I told me too, I really have egg on my face right now, don’t I?”
I felt utterly guilty and pissed at myself.Reminds me of a scene from Red Dwarf, where the character is watching self-help videos he himself left behind before he got shit-pissed and amnesia.
Well its Good to see that some Perks are still being awarded.
OMG
Okay, had to comment here, but the more i read of Calamity, the more i think he has the curse of being..
The Player!
Symptoms include:
Shoot first, ask questions maybe later.
Loot ALL OF THE THINGS! Yes, even that trash can that looks like all it holds is complete shit, LOOT IT ANYWAY!
Generally having something that no other person seems to have, which in his case is having impeccable aim
'Course if you really look into it, each of them have a bit of the 'Player' curse, it's just the more common traits are easily visible in Calamity.
So can someone fill me in on this? Did Velvet's leg got completly cut off or what? Didn't quite catch that.
6145506
Yup. Damn hellhounds, but thank goodness for zebra alchemy, or whatever you want to call it, and lots of restoration potions.
