I love the scene with Littlepip's mother. It really shows that our heroine isn't tied to the past so much as she was any more. It's almost a dialectic situation: on one hand, she aches to learn of the past, and feels for it, and on the other hand, she is trying to escape from her own past; and is quite successful at it. I mean, the chapter of a Stable filly came to a close not when she left the Stable, IMO, but after Velvet hit her mother.
And SteelHooves... Boy, his life has been so tragic, and still he takes it all stoically, accepting even the fact that his own child never knew him, and that he never knew of its existence. Just imagine how emotionally wrecked he is, deep inside.
But anyway, yes, another great chapter that reveals more after the second reading.
“Gawd sent me.”
Still the best one liner in all of pony fiction ever.
Laughed real hard the first time I read that when I read this story a year ago.
The last sentence reminded me of this song, and, damn, remembering the lyrics, this could almost be a song written for for Fo:E
Basically, you're on a mission from Gawd?
3059859
Every single time I see Gawd's name, I am instantly reminded of the Blues Brothers and their mission from God.
Hey, is there anything in either fic suggesting if Puppysmile's story is before or after Littlepip's?
Cuz I just had the mental image of Steelhooves hearing about her:
"Ha ha, the innocent little filly with no concept of death and is looking for her mamma is also a Canterlot Ghoul... if I had a plot left in this armor, I'd be soiling it now. "
Wow stable 2 was imbred now that is a scary thought knowing that everpony there us our cousin one way or another
Wait, what? They FOUND ash residue from magical energy weapons...
Ohh. so their reinforcements did that. Welp, at least the ash piles were former Steel Rangers, then
Overmare: 0, Velvet Remedy: 2
3059867
That one's still coming, in some future chapter
Cottage Cheese
Comm. Blueberry
Strawberry Lemonade.
Do you ever have those days that you might think that the fanfic that you love so much, in a fandom that you enjoy being in...is a bit weird at times? Only here can those names be not only normal, but part of important characters.
I love it!
“Aww,” Xenith whispered in my ear. “I’ve been waiting to see those two do that since I first met them.”
YOU AINT THE ONLY ONE XENITH!!
I love Velvet's relationship with Calamity and how it was slowly built up to this point. It's kind of nice to see a relationship delvelop on its own in a natural way, with the character's building on trust. Sort of a interesting contrast with the romance between Lil Pip and her girl. one comes from a bond that develops over time and trust while the other comes how the two admire thier strengths and virtues and how the other one provides the hope for the other.
Also, heavy metal music for this fight, all the way as this is one of the best fights in the whole dang fic!
3059980 Pink Eyes takes place in the middle of FO:E. It begins and ends after and before, respectively, FO:E's beginning and ending.
Great!
I had this music play in my mind when Littlepip and the gang approached the Stable entrance and saw the slaughtered welcoming committee. I'd probably use it in a fan animation.
3059867 I lost it at that line.
3059861 That song is awesome and suits Fo:E well

Friendly reminder that SteelHooves name is Applesnack
"The Overmare had sent half a dozen ponies to greet whomever was coming in. Only two of them, Stable security guards, were armed. The others had come bearing only hopes of friendship. Scattered near the open muzzle of a magenta-coated young mare was a bouquet of flowers, a welcoming gift. The white flower petals were stained red. And the Steel Rangers had gunned them down."
Hmm. This seems familiar, but w-
Oh. Oh.
This chapter had always hit me the hardest, I think. Little Pip exploring the stable and finding all those bodies just killed me the first time I read it. The idea that the people she grew up with were getting massacred in the place that was her home, oh man, that really got to me.
SPOILERS
Fluttershy is a tree.
I told you that a day would come when you couldn't afford the time to walk.
He didn't, though. His best would have involved changing the Steel Rangers. But that was a bloody line he refused to cross, though inaction was bloody as well.
His Oath wasn't, though. It was to AJ. And it is time he lived up to it.
He's no option to hide. He's got to think about how he's going to respond to Blueberry Saber, and he's got to think about what he did to Zecora. He can't distract himself from both at the same time. It's just too much.
It's nice to have fans.
I have to say, it's a weird sort of dissonance to have souls and mind uploading coexist. If you have a soul, yet your mind may be replicated independently of that, what makes your soul so fundamental?
Also, uploading is murder. You're killing the Maneframe to replace it with yourself. Nopony cares about AI rights, though. Is it any wonder we fear robot uprisings?
Symbolism . . .
A leader does what she must. Sometimes it's not pretty.
How frequent danger changes your memories of your boring previous life.
Symbolism?
Time for a lesson on Canterlot ghouls.
I'm kind of curious. How common is it that my legs involuntarily twitched towards a more defensive position when I read this?
Here's the cavalry. "Mercenaries," indeed.
Foals are always a good way to make a point about poor morals.
Because it works.
By your standards, most certainly. The life of a hero is one of the harshest there is, and the Wasteland can be plenty cruel without such a choice. But this is presumably the most traumatic thing that has ever happened in Stable 2, since it was first built.
I know it's hard to listen to those more fortunate than you complain. I know it doesn't help that she's drunk. But they have all suffered. Even the ones who have responded by retreating from the world. Even the insufferable ones.
everybody take a few minutes to think about what it would have been like if pip and velvet had been dating when they found out that they were related...
3234218 Yeah... that doesn't bother me one bit. Past 3 times removed there is no added danger of birth defects. That, and taboo is hot.
Best. One-liner. Ever.
Also, Cottage Cheese, Blueberry, Strawberry Lemonade, and Applesnack.
How am I supposed to take the Steel Rangers seriously when they're all named after food?
The moment Littlepip talked to Nova, I imagined the Doctor standing there and saying: "Basically, run!"
I found a picture of Applesnack.
fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/223/2/0/pre_war_applesnack_vector_by_brisineo-d5ap5ih.png
Cause Littlepip gonna kill you and be badass while doing it!!!!!!!
I came
3303066
Apparently, they all are canned food...
I'm sorry but I just realized.....Nova Rage? Did you seriously name a pony, "Nova Rage"? Suddenly, a gamer's Youtube profile pops into my mind whenever I read that name. Is he your inspiration for the namesake?
Applejack is refereed to as Elderly so often, and she was pregnant? I was expecting her to be 70 give or take when the megaspells hit. Geez. Now I have no idea what to picture them as. And it's good to see the Outcasts have a home now. And can I presume Tenpony Tower will be evacuated to Stable 2?
3092663 Same thoughts as me. Never go full Enclave. The Core B.o.S was bad, but not that bad.
I laughed. And that's terrible.
Thank you LittlePip. I hate when stories over look that, if it's not your brain hooked into the computer, it isn't you. Also sounds just like that Fallout Tactics ending. I guessed the mind imprint was going to be very important later, but I still think this is going to turn out worse for our noble hero... Let's hope it isn't that kind of tear jerking ending.
Wow, it was so long ago I read that chapter...
But not the war, right?
Wow, thought we were going for the Fallout 1 ending there for a sec-
You know, this is way more epic than the Fallout 1 ending because it's by choice. The situation was very different of course, with LittlePip having friends to fall back on for example, vs having no friends, no home, and no direction like the Vault Dweller, but it is a lot better than 1 all the same. Still stupid too...
Funny, the way it should have been in Fallout 3. The Red Outcasts care for people, the original Blue-steel Brotherhood for technology. Not the messed up way in 3 which they only did because the B.o.S armour is iconic.
Black wings line was just too perfect. "Gawd sent me." I am not kidding that was the ultimate one liner anyone can do. Swartzeneiger would be proud.
Spoilers! Mind your eyes!
To this day, I've always wondered what SteelHooves' reaction was to finding out Applejack was pregnant.
Come to think of it, Applejack's kid doesn't even get touched on after that, it just gets that one sudden "Hey! Plot device!" moment, and then it doesn't get brought up again after that and just sort of rolls off the face of the story. Just a minor knit pick in the grand scheme of things, but it was enough to raise an eyebrow.
Its phrases like this that make me glad Gawd is a character.
The real goddess is pinkie pie she can tell the future and break the fourth wall
derpicdn.net/img/2013/7/29/385455/large.png
Well, Littlepip has her limits. There were lots of ponies that wanted to kill her, but she only chose a few.
He didn't learn yet that it's one of the questions no one ever asks here...
Calamity, remember that you talk to a guy called Applesnack...
Velvet has an OTP
Someone said that Cottage Cheese is a weird name?
That's what I call "aggresive negotiations"
Well, Littlepip, you probably wouldn't admit it to yourself, but you have your mother's genes. And, judging by the medical record, Applejack's genes and Velvet Remedy's genes.
You know what happens to those who don't praise Gawd, don't you?
YEEESSSSSSS OH MY GAWD YESSSSSSS i have been WAITING for them to kiss... YEESSSSS
You know, I find that this and the previous chapters were where the true character development for Steelhooves started. And yes, obviously, the schism between the Steel and Applejack Rangers would change him, but the real changes actually started appearing before. Namely, with Xenith joining the group.
Her presence marks the first time his stoicism was broken, where the barrier he puts up around himself starts to wane. We finally start seeing how torn up he has been by what he's been through.
And then, when Stable 2 gets attacked, everything he had been trying to avoid by not becoming an Elder, everything he feared comes crashing down on him. If not for Lilpip, it would be really hard to say what he'd have done.
The Rangers fucking disgust me. More so than the Brotherhood of Steel. Bunch of repugnant, selfish monsters, the lot of them.
Props to you, author; I love stories that can invoke strong emotions in the reader.
I accept this. Finally. I support this now, and I did a loud scream of excitement when I read this.
This is it. This was the chapter I've been waiting for ever sense Littlepip stepped out of the stable. This chapter involved everything that's epic to the story. With the action, and you actually included actual romance in this chapter. They're going back home to save everyone. You do a good job at making people feel strong emotions with the characters and that's why this story is so lovable.
I got to say, I was kind of disappointed at this chapter. I was expecting more one on one time with her mom, or at least have her check for her dad. But I guess beggars can't be choosers. Who knows? Maybe it will happen later in the story. Good job Kkat, love the story.
4393516 well if you think about it that means that a large portion of stable two could be descendants of steelhooves potentially he could be an ancestor of littlepip and velvet
The best chapter of the story, hands down.
"Star Paladin Nova Rage I presume?"
"Yes. And you are?"
"Run."
Oh snap!
What is Littlepip's mom's problem?!
Mind your eyes, this comment contains some spoilers
I love how some of the Steel Rangers names are incredibly badass like Nova Rage, Blueberry Sabre, & Crossroads... and then there's ones like Applesnack, Strawberry Lemonade, and Cottage Cheese
This chapter was super heavy at parts, especially right here. God, poor Littlepip. Poor Velvet. Poor Stable 2!
I'm really starting to like Xenith, especially her fighting skill. She's a very intriguing character, not to mention basically a badass ninja XD
FUCKING FINALLY!
You and me both, Xenith. You and me both.
Godammit Velvet, you kinky bastard
HELL YEAH! Griffins showing up to help kick some ass! Not to mention Blackwing has the greatest one-liner here several seconds later
As if I didn't have enough reasons to adore Velvet Remedy already, now she's giving Littlepip's bitch of a mom a piece of her mind. You go Velvet, standing up for your friends!
All in all, definitely one of my favorite chapters so far. Probably my favorite cause Velvet and Calamity finally kissed
The attack on stable 2 reminded me of this song
Quest were the main character(s) return to the stable- Check
Outcasts- Check
OTP moment(s)- checkerooni
Notes: This is best chapter so far in the story. Also not the sort of inbreds I was looking for Kkat.
4092554 there's the comment!
That rock sounds like something the CMC made when they grew up and stopped being the CMC.
I really want that rock to be Tom.
