I think Velvet got what she deserved honestly. Knocking Littlepip out like that and letting Monetery die was rather....welll.....
Pardon my french here, but that was a bitch move. I know it was with good intentions, but still....the poor foals.....
*sees Grimstar's fate* ah, heck...who needs sleep. I'll be comforted by my night terrors of this for a while. Thank you Kkat for finding ways to make me scream like a filly.
One of the most powerful chapter endings, IMO. On the same level with Diamond Tiara's fate. I can't justify SteelHooves' act, but somehow I feel that it was necessary.
I've always had a soft spot for this chapter in particular. I don't know why. I just really like it.

Yep, that would be me. (As well some other Fo:E inspired songs. What can I do? The Equestrian Wasteland is a damn inspirational place. )
Excellent!
I'm just following along.

If she has to be the villain of the piece to set things right...
I can't deny it was wrong. But I can't deny it was right.
Every time I read this chapter, I always feel that Velvet Remedy deserves worse. What a terrible thing for her to do, no matter how noble her intentions. I was somewhat surprised that a betrayal of this magnitude was not met with more anger on Littlepip's part. Kudos to her for doing better.
Also love the chapter ending. Huge development for SteelHooves during this and the next chapter.
I've always felt that Remedy did the right thing here. While Littlepip claimed she was going to get help...
...I just don't know that I believe her. It would be far too easy to just put it off again and again. Not to mention that Velvet's actions freed Littlepip of the resposibility of dealing with Monterey Jack, which was, at the end of the day, probably for the best.
This is a really tricky chapter when it comes to morality, for all the reasons above as well as SteelHooves's murder of the Sheriff.
I do believe that Littlepip was fair to Velvet Remedy, though.
I really like this chapter. I'm usually in the minority but I agree with Velvet's decision to help Pip by any means, but is shut down by Pip wanting treatment after some sleep. Pip also handles it way better than I would have thought. Good for her.
Also the line, "You do know cutie marks don't control your destiny, right?" Hmmmmm lol
That part from the memory made me wan't to strangle that operator in rage
For some reason the Pre-War parts always impact me the most.
My mind did wonders for the last lines.
Why did he have to trap Grim Star out there?
Luna, I love the shit you pull with these people. This chapter alone was absolutely full of grey morality. Monterey Jack, SteelHooves, the addiction... fucknuts kid, what was a clear choice in this one?
More importantly, who was right?
But honestly I have to say Grim Star deserved it, Pip deserved it, and Monterey deserved it. Racism and genocide are likely to get you killed, despite the other side being just as racist and genocidal, you're still a dick. 'Pip may have fixed herself in time, but it got Monterey his fitting end and 'Pip her fix to her fix. The kids are probably worse off at Shattered Hoof than they were under a cheese shop-owner, but even the hero can't fix everything.
On my second read-through, I still drank the Kool-Aid and loved doing so. What with agreeing with the heroes and forgetting or forgiving any moral implications. There's probably some better answer buried deep within a forgotten acquaintance or ability, but I'm not that dedicated of a fan to find it. Maybe something with Ditzy, now that I'm thinking on it...

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Not at all. That's the next game, duh. Actually, come to think of it, that's three games from now.

that gives you nightmares? pfft, i go to sleep at night hoping for nightmares like that so i can have some fun ......well, whenever i stop reading fics to get some sleep.....which doesnt happen as often as it should
Oh goodness here comes the feels. THE FEELS.
SPOILERS
The enemy was the gradual replacement in all mass-market food of cheese with processed cheese analogue all along
Probably not very much, if it were somepony who mattered. But I suppose we'll never know for sure.
You know, there was a point in time when I suspected SteelHooves actually did hate ghouls, despite being one. I think I dismissed that idea when he admitted to being one, but it's possible I wasn't sure until he killed Grim Star.
SteelHooves is very difficult to read. Is it any wonder I didn't trust him for quite a long time?
That's an unusual definition of "know" you're using.
Does it really, though? Would anypony be able to trace where you're hacking from? I assume you've learned something about covering your tracks at some point in the past two centuries. And who's going to assemble a raiding party to take on a dragon for the crime of paying attention? Most ponies have better things to do.
Yeah, for a dragon who claims to have made a study of friendship, he's quite isolationist. It's a wonder Littlepip ever gets him to open up.
It'll have its uses, eventually.
Have I ever mentioned how unreasonably lucky you are sometimes? (Yes, when you made your first attempt at suicide by memory orb.) Because, seriously, how does occasional exposure to Taint in random amounts and levels of purification give you the ability to heal via radiation? It should give you cancer. It took Trixie the better part of two centuries to find the proper dosage of IMP to create alicorns, rather than creating deformed monstrosities (like herself). And you got halfway there without even trying.
I always liked the urban rumor that the war had freed Discord, and he now roams the Wasteland doing weird stuff like this.
But, I'm told that Project Horizons has the Kkat seal of approval, and that makes it canon to the universe in my book. So I can't take that rumor as fact, unfortunately.
No; she's just expanding her definition of "pony."
Sinners, get your parkas; Velvet wants to let a pony die but Littlepip wants to save him.
Seriously, can you name any other circumstances under which Velvet would not have a problem with a pony being killed for attempted robbery?
You know nothing of being the villain of the piece. But how could I expect you to understand, before you have met him? Fear not; Red Eye will show you what it means to pursue what must be done, no matter the consequences.
Right now, you have too little foresight. You may be clever about pursuing short-term goals, but short-term is all they are. And as long as you do what seems right now, and avoid actions with only long-term benefits, you may become the villain of reality (a fate you fortunately tend to avoid), but you will never play the villain of the piece.
See? Even Velvet is better at becoming the villain of the piece than you are. To attempt to save a single father from being executed for a crime he committed against you could easily be called foolish, but who would consider it evil? Whereas to sabotage a friend's mission to save her from a worse failure later, and to treat her for addiction against her will, could easily result in fewer friends.
You can't even give the impression of malice as well as Kindness itself can.
I think I'll pass on being a hero, in that case.
Welcome back to how you were before PTMs.
Everypony in the Wasteland has problems. Yours may work out.
Eventually, anyway. Memory orb addiction is not a problem easily treated for either of you.
Don't worry about it. Traveling the Wasteland without emotional issues is like being a mercenary without scars: you look like a rookie and nopony respects you. So think of the emotional damage as a blessing.
Instinctively, I want to disagree. But I'm not sure I can. His temper is not a good quality.
I wish I could remember for sure what I thought the first time through while Littlepip was running down here, and what I thought she thought. I'm sure at least one of those thoughts was wrong. I can't at all recall if both of those thoughts were the same.

I've grown to hate that "Kkat Approved" tag because nobody has any idea what it actually means anymore. Let me make this clear... again: Project Horizons is not canon. That tag does not mean that. It never did. No side story is canon. (Although "A Mare Worth Fighting For" by Pacce may be treated as canon or non-canon at your discretion.)
"Kkat Approved" means that I approved of Sethisto separating Project Horizons out from the Fallout: Equestria side stories mass postings and giving Project Horizons its own page on Equestria Daily. The story was big enough and had a large enough following that it deserved to have it's own page where people could comment on it and discuss it. As part of the side stories mass postings, comments about Project Horizons were scattered amongst those directed at other stories, making it difficult for readers to hold discussions and for other authors to find comments for their own works without reading massive spoilers for PH.
That's all that "Kkat Approved" means. I haven't read the story, so I can't approve or disapprove of any of its contents.
"What, do I look like a courier pony?”
New vagas refrence anyone?
*Sees Grim Star's death*
"I guess you could say that his end...
Was pretty grim.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3206519 ...*smacks you softly on the back of the head*
You know, with a name like bleedin' Grim Star, he's just asking to die a gruesome death.
Grim did have it coming
justice has been served #steelhoovesswag
Grim Star did deserve it, flaming bastard.
As someone who has themselves faced the horrors of addiction, I feel as if this chapter was written by someone who also knows the perils firsthand. I for one support what Velvet did. It was the only reasonable choice. Jack wasn't important enough to risk everything that Tenpony Tower was worth to Littlepip and Co, and getting Pip treatment for her addiction was also a very high priority. Jack made his choice, and he had to suffer the consequences for it. That's just the way things work.
If only I could get rid of the fog in my brain that easy.
I still like Steel Hooves. I support his decision to cause an ironic death to a large bigot.
3776441 I have to disagree with what happened to jack. I think he made the right choices just not very successful with it. If we're put in the same position, with something to lose like my kids, I would have made the same choice.

Guess our little heroine now knows that no matter how hard you try, there will always be losses, especially if you're hooked on drugs in the first place. Now the clarity message from Pinkie will be oh so much clearer. But if anything else she's still determined to make the most of the opportunities and try to get the best outcome from them. Especially when in bed, her language will definitely spice things up.
If she ever gets into bed with somepony else that is. I meant that in a sensual way. And I only say this because so far she seems to be going at relationships like a flying brick. Or a grenade, whichever fits first.
So, basically, you need a Mint-Al to forget that you're ashamed because of your addiction? Way to go...
That's the first step...
Well, his excessive battle tactics is usually more excessive than Calamity's...
It's good that it hurts. If it didn't, it could mean that it's not there anymore...
Well, you'll see...
I smell lampshade hanging...
Guess who'll try to shoot it first...
Well, she still is...
...though I have to agree with Calamity here.
Well, everyone has their addictions...
Ummm...
All heroes do, sooner or later...
I didn't remember that one. Sure, it's not as colourful as some of the previous ones, but still quite picturesque...
I was initially angered by Velvet's decision. Putting myself in Pip's hooves, I know I would be. But then I realized that every paladin needs a good Sergeant that will do what they can't; Little Pip's not fit to being the villan of the piece. No, that's not her role. In a way, Velvet was far more loyal than Little Pip might want to admit, saving her from herself, even at the cost of her own conscience and perhaps even their own friendship. That is loyalty. Semper Fidelis.

I know whatcha mean Luna. But you can sleep during the day, right?
I don't know, I feel that Velvet made the right choice. Lil'pip would have gotten them all kicked out, then she would have been stuck with her addiction.
Also, she had the same thoughts as Pinkie Pie, "I want to be better so I could help my friends" and she felt the PTMs would help her do that.
Welcome to morality central.

3181843 Isn't it true that you read up through chapter 16 of that story? Somber said something along those lines in one of his Author's Notes. I believe he said that you thought his story went beyond what you originally intended it to be like.
Not that I personally disagree, but I am quoting something I read from over six months ago. So if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Just wanted to throw that out there.
5526893 I have now read the first sixteen chapters of Project Horizons. (I had not started to do so when I wrote that comment.)
I was beginning to enjoy the shipping with Calamity, than Velvet basically slapped me in the face.
Agggh... stahp with the everything.
Nice job again!
Damn... that was pretty... a dick move Velvet...
But I still love you.
Nice job!
Never had a story immerse me this much before. I get so sucked in, I feel what Pip does, and I trhink what she does. Kinda scary to lose myself like that. I wonder though if Pip thought the same thing I did, that maybe Velvet needs to be cured of her own addiction with a bit of smashy crashy glass breaking. I definitely feel like there's still enough room for revenge, even if I can see that was she did was for the best.
5887731 Im there with you on the fact that this story pulls you in. Also there have been a few times like in this chapter when velvet shot pip that I just raged and got really mad at velvet for doing something that she shouldn't have done and in turn killing jack.
The way the symptoms of the addiction are handled; are more realistic then I'd like to imagine. In saying that, I mean Littlepip's ailment was handled very realistically. Velvet's necessary betrayal was something I was aware of before reading, though reading it myself was impactful, I suppose.
Hard not to sympathize with the foals, losing a father is hard, but going on through life without either parent will mess them up so bad.
Sickeningly, that last part with Chief Grim Star almost played out like a mid series finale. I'm not sure if this will have any further consequences later in the story, I've read twenty and twenty one so I'm assuming it won't do much just yet. Once again, in a sickening manner, Grim Stars horrible end was almost like a best friend watching his child hood sweet heart sleep with some guy and stare at him while it happened, while some song plays unfittingly like on those show's on those channels these days. Not the best thing to think of, I don't know, it's just horrible, realistically I can compare his fate to that of Noah from The Walking Dead, pressed against the glass and ripped to pieces, though Noahs was accidental, this was on purpose. This is probably the most confusing and screwed up comparisons I've ever written.
Good riddance Chief Grim Star!
