New chapter! YAY!
No way. I start rereading this, think it's dead because of how long the last update was, then have it update a few days later?
I am beyond happy, right now.
~ Chapter: 13
That grin made me think of the "Clever Girl" line in Jurassic Park
Hope every thing's ok
I always love the way you write combat scenes.
And day-to-day life chapters are great in their own right, I love seeing things through Snap Roll's eyes.
Also interesting to see Fade as a more, possibly sinister character.
Thank you and your team for all the time and effort that flows into this work.
Yes! Yes! Yes! New chapter woo!
So... the Griffons speak Latvian and Serbo-Croatian? And are those quotes gramatically correct?

It's supposed to be Latvian, though we currently lack anyone actually fluent in the language on the team, so at this point any translation would have been through google translate twice, and beginning to suffer through it. As such, I can't guarantee the grammar, unfortunately. But yeah, its definitely not random words.

Haha, yeah, about time eh?

Glad you liked the combat! This one has been one I've been wanting to write for a looong time now, seeing people liking it feels absolutely fantastic.
As always, a pleasure to put it all together.

Haha, might have been at least a minor inspiration, not gonna lie.
Nah, all's going well. I'll try and get a blog up later this week for the state of things on my end. Mostly just busy, to be honest.
Hey friend! Just wanted to let you know this is rapidly becoming my favorite story on the site. Currently I'm serving as an enlisted in the Army, and I'm around medics all day every day. No story that I have read thus far has really been able to capture a lot of the feelings and internal struggles that comes with being a "healer" in such horrific situations. "Everyone on the battlefield" sounds nice until your best friend gets shot in the face. Then it's real hard to patch up the enemy, knowing they might have been the one to do it. Cheers and please keep up the good work!
Another great chapter! Hopefully there won't be such a long wait for the next one!

Hey man, sorry for the super late response. I know its been a bit, but you saying those things is really a massive morale boost, makes it feel like some of the things I've been working towards are finally getting into the story - and more importantly, being appreciated by someone like yourself who's in a position highly suited to critique such things.
On behalf of myself and the editing team as a whole, we're honoured you'd say those things, thanks for taking the time to tell us!

Wow, I forgot I even posted this here. So yeah, its not about incapacitating the opponent. Garrottes are not for strangling. Even without a garrotte, you can kill a person with a really solid chokehold that fully occludes the carotid artery in a matter of seconds, even faster than a slit artery, simply because a cut carotid will still pump some blood in to the brain, whereas a completely choked artery will give no blood to the brain. Its actually really scary how fast a good chokehold can kill a person. I never said it was an instantaneous death, but it is a fast one... much faster than strangling a person's oxygen supply.

The original established it as a naming convention that Rangers named their children after food (possibly because they're one of the few groups that might have managed to retain the capacity to produce the sort of food they named them after - I imagine names right after the war were something along the lines of "Cherry Filling," and gradually moved towards "Grilled Mantis" being considered a perfectly acceptable name - a way to show how norms even in an essentially sealed society change over time), and we decided we could use it to our own ends well enough.
For example, just by their names you can tell which characters are born Rangers, and which have been recruited from the local populace, a bit of an indicator of how tough times are, that they're forced to do that in the first place.

Beretta has a pretty good blog on the civvie side of things http://blog.beretta.com/Shooting-Tips-Accuracy, I feel they address most of the points I'd bring up on the technical shooting side. But on the military side, which they don't cover, it has to do largely with the fact that on a battlefield you're going to have buddies moving all around you, combined with having to engage the enemy. Both eyes open allows you the peripheral vision you need to see things as they're entering your primary field of vision. You won't be as surprised when you see an ally move in front of you, and you'll be less likely to accidentally shoot them.
Thanks for the comments guys, it's been a bit of a dry spell but the writing gears are finally workin' again, and there's another chapter on the way. Thanks for the interest!
I've enjoyed reading this.
You've got interesting characters who play off of each other really well, and feel believable. The world is nicely setup, too, with enough detail to bring it to life, but not so much that the pacing bogs down. However, the standout for me is the combat– it feels genuinely dangerous, and the enemy is always a threat, which is what you'd expect from folks who have survived so far in the Wasteland. I also like that it's more considered than simply rushing in, guns blazing.
Overall, Frozen Skies feels gritty, less game-like than all of the FO:E fics I've read, which is very much to its credit. Looking forward to more!

Huh. You were right. Apparently it's possible. No impact on accuracy either. Well, it's of no consequence for me anyways. Haven't even held an airgun for about 15 years now.
I just lazily looked up two noob guides and got bored. Using them is the least interesting part about guns for me.
Man i love this story!

Glad you're enjoying it!
I cant wait for the next chapter Holy fuuuuuck
