In honor of Nightmare Night, it seemed only fitting to rise from the dead, shamble over to my keyboard, and knock out "Telltales"—2,500 or so words of (I'm hoping) creepy pony fiction. My inspiration was EqD's Nightmare Night 2012 FanFic Competition, for which I thought I had a cute idea. Alas, there were more than one hundred entries, and mine did not make it into the final ten. While others were composing (or decomposing) masterpieces of Lovecraftian dread and horror, I was banging out a campfire story. Still, I'm pleased with my little tale and believe that even scary stories told 'round the campfire have their place. ("'Tis said that a pony named Lyra roams these woods. Instead of hooves, she has hands... and when they got home, there, hanging from the passenger's-side door handle, was a bloody hand.") There's nothing in my story that would have Poe looking over his shoulder (tough to do in the cramped confines of a coffin), but I'd like to think that it repays a quick reading with a shiver or two.
