    Congratulations, Brits.

I was rooting for the Elmo cosplayer, but the Trump cosplayer seems nice. The tweet salt is quite fantastic, gonna mine me some for a while.

    The Outer Worlds

I got the game because it looked like the Fallout fix I needed. Obsidian, who made New Vegas, made it. It looked like Space Fallout and had a lot of similarities. Waited for the Black Friday sale, then grabbed it for $48. Thanks for the holiday, you turkey-eating Americans.

Journeys Arcs · 6:46am Feb 19th, 2017

Applejack's arc is done and Rainbow has her first chapter. However, the reception to having full arcs completed leaves me unsure of what readers prefer.

So I ask this just one time. Would you prefer that I complete Rainbow's arc as well or should I start jumping to all the arcs for the remainder of Journeys?

I would definitely like to see the stories of all of them, not just one at a time. The only problem is that if there's any hiatus for any reason then they're a lot of uncompleted plot lines. Personally, I say maybe go in an order, one Rainbow, one Pinkie, One Rarity, One Twilight, One Fluttershy, repeat. Though, that's just a suggestion. Hope it helps.

You forgot Applejack. I know she's already had ten so far, but she's :ajsmug: !

4428099 Visiden said that her arc was done. I'm sure we'll see her again but the others deserve more fleshing out at the moment.

I personally prefer that you go one story arc at a time. It's easier to keep track of your storyline when you aren't hopping around from plot to plot. And this way, We won't have to wait five chapters for you to continue from any cliffhangers.

Jump around the ARCs, IMO.

Of course, take my opinion with a grain of salt since I'm currently pretty behind, but that's probably at least partly because of how the arcs were coming one at a time in the first place. AJ's story was interesting enough, but what I've been really wanting to see was Twilight's, and maybe Rarity's, and knowing that it's going to be months if not years before we get to their parts of the story made me lose interest a bit.

Like I pointed out in chapters themselves

I don't mind if this follow one arc at a time, especially if the whole thing is not done yet and they may be prolonged periods between chapters.
But in the end, I think that changing arcs would work better in long term (or at least in final version), also if there ever was a good time to switch between arcs regularly it would be now with starting new one.
You don't even need to switch it after every chapter, but every so often to present a natural cliffhanger.

While jumping between arcs is my preferred style of writing a multiple storylines... Considering your not so fast writing speed... Sticking to the one arc at time would be better for continuity...

Hmmm, this opinion might not be of much help, but I'm happy with either option. However, most of your readers are probably used to you jumping between characters, since you kind of did that with the previous Upheaval stories when characters were separated.

I would prefer you to stick to one at a time. Less mindwracking cliffhangers that way.

While I generally like things to be chronological... with the delay between chapters, I think I'd have to say go with the arcs on this one.

I'm a big proponent for knowing what all the parties are doing... hell, my own stories look like a shotgun blast if you try to track all the characters... but that only really works well in a finished piece or a piece that gets rapid updates. Otherwise you end up with readers who have to re-read entire sections just to see when things were happening and how they might end up working together. Couple that with the dreaded cliffhanger, only to get a different character's chapter, and everyone ends up bald from the hair pulling.

<chuckles> I do love the stories, but when they're broken up by months of down time, I'll take the arc that handles one plot point at a time.

Prefer the completed arcs before moving on, easier to keep track of whats happening.

Really enjoyed reading through AJs portion in one block.

I know. Just had to comment.

I say complete Rainbow's arc. Doing anything else would just be too confusing.

Honestly I've been dying to know what is going on with twilight, and rarity and pinkie, and fluttershy. If we spend the next year on rainbow I may go mad.

With how the other stories were pretty much jumping between Characters and such i decided to wait this one out, considering you finished Aj's "arc" ill probably read it, wait for Rainbows to finish then read it and so on.

You already started doing this in arcs so might as well finish it that way.

I prefer one arc, especially if rarity and pinkie's are combined. Twilight's arc definitely deserves its own time. If this one gets long, maybe a spike or other character update in the middle?

I think one arc is the best idea because if you try to do multiple arcs it can get confusing.

I, too, feel it would be better if you were to do one arc at a time.

Yeah, I think it depends how fast you think you'll be able to update. If you can get them out fast then go for jumping around. If it's gonna be like how it has been, with the delays, then definitely focus on one arc at a time.

I vote for one arc at a time.

One arc at a time, plox.

I'd vote for one arc at a time. It keep things orderly and helps build anticipation for the other arcs.

That would depend:

If you're anything like me, I'm guessing you have at least 100k words drafted/ written that you haven't posted due to chronology. Posting those would get you feedback, and IF that feedback motivated you to write faster it would more than compensate for a less tidy time line.

Alternatively; trying to focus on many stories, can make you unable to do any of them very well and make you less productive than if you had just stuck to one story that you did well. (Also personal experience.)

It would be a trade off of motivation at the cost of focus, and for you I don't know which would be greater.

If you would post a chapter a month no matter what; then I'd say stick to one arc at a time.

I'm just asking for the reader's preference, not some attempt to psychoanalyze me.

I actually haven't read any chapters since Applejack 3... I keep thinking "I'll get to these eventually!", but eventually never comes. I find that I'm still interested in the story overall, but... an Applejack-focused arc? I'm sure it's great, but I just don't care enough about the character to bring myself to read tens of thousands of words focusing on her story, update after update, for over a year.

I think it's normal for people to like some characters more than others, and by the same token, for people to have a perhaps below average interest in some characters. Doing one long arc at a time, focused on a single main character, seems like it has a higher likelihood of alienating the people who just aren't quite as interested in that character, as happened to me. Bouncing around between characters a bit would definitely have kept me reading, even the Applejack parts.

Seems like I'm being out-voted though, lol. Oh well. Probably not a question you'll like or even answer, but am I going to absolutely have to read AJ/RD's arcs to understand anything at all that's going on with the main plot from the previous story once characters I care more about pop up?

id say pick a pony and stick to them bouncing around is fun and all but its a little jarring at the best of times... looks to the spike story off to the side and coughes

Could you throw in a Spike chapter?

I like the idea of jumping around, but it's hard to say if the real thing would actually be as fun as it sounds.

A reluctant vote to knock them out one at a time.

I'd say when the updates are slow like this, keep it to one arc at a time for reasons already stated by others, but in the end when it's all said and done and all the different arcs are completed you could rearrange it into a more chronological order because once everything is out, I think it'd be a more interesting read to jump around between characters.

If you asked me what I wanted to eat and gave two options; I wouldn’t think it should be rude to ask which could be completed fastest.

I admitted that I didn’t know which option would let you write the fastest; but only recounted some of my personal experiences working on another fanfiction which, when completed, will be of comparable scope and complexity to Upheval, and which is updating at about the same pace.

If speed will be the same either way; one arc at the time is clearly the better option.

I'm not asking you what way would make me write faster. I'm asking you what you prefer. Would you prefer if I completed an arc before starting a new one, or would you prefer if I worked on all the remaining arcs at once?

It's a two choice question you are needlessly complicating. One arc at a time or all arcs at once?

4431866 That's what I was meaning. As in: Can we get another chapter for that story?

So, my thoughts on your choice here:

1) It seems like these arcs are each individual element powerleveling, and aren't particularly intertwined like the subplots in previous installments. There's not really any need to track them simultaneously.
2) The extreme isolation is part of the mood you're going for, and bouncing between characters might break that.
3) This isn't the only convoluted story most of us are reading on this site, so sometimes less to keep track of at once is better.
4) The erratic update schedule so far (which of course isn't anyone's fault) exacerbates that, and who knows when real life might strike.

So I'd say do full arcs one at a time.
