    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

Blog Activity & Mini-Afterthoughts: To Where and Back Again · 9:47pm Jan 31st, 2017

This has admittedly been a slow winter for blogs. I’m sorry that I haven’t blogged more often. The reason is that there simply hasn’t been anything that has motivated me to blog in the last few weeks. I want to continue to provide content and communication with all of my wonderful fans and watchers, but I’m not aware of any big developments or news regarding Fallout, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, or Fallout: Equestria since my last blog. Where there are world events that have my attention, my blog isn’t a place for political rants. And I don’t want to create half-hearted blogs that do nothing but clutter your feed.

Having delivered my review of Season Six, and with the time that has passed since the finale, I don’t feel I could really do justice to the amazing “To Where and Back Again”. So I’m not going to try to do an extremely-belated review of the episode. However, since so many seemed to enjoy hearing my thoughts on the episodes last season, I absolutely plan to write Afterthoughts for Season Seven as soon as it starts.

I will, however, gush that I absolutely loved “To Where and Back Again”. This was an incredible finale for one of the strongest and most delightful seasons of the show. And I’m not going to let it go without a few words.

The episode started out on the right foot with a title that harkened to The Hobbit.

The finale tied together the season in a surprising way. We all expected “The Times They Are a Changeling” to be an important episode to the seeason’s arc, but how many of us expected “No Second Prances” to be so important? And I must say that my own complaints about the lack of Starlight were justly put to rest. Starlight’s character growth in this season was brilliant, and using her character for the moral of the episode was a superb choice. I think they literally could not have done this better.

I’m still a little on the fence about the changelings’ new look, but I can appreciate the mythology and chrysalis-themed execution. And the new design is not without its appeal.

By giving us an episode where secondary characters stood up and took on the role of heroes, the show managed to not only give us something we have been craving – an episode that truly highlighted a cast of some of the side characters in a way that only “Slice of Life” and “Dungeons and Discords” really offered in the past.

Having the episode focus on former and reformed villains emphasized the redemption arcs that these characters have taken and the “be better” message inherent in the show itself.

Sadly, as I said above, this is not a full and proper Afterthoughts on this magnificent two-parter. Normally, I would take time to point out all amazing designs and fun animations. (The design of the changeling hive and the first moment we see Trixie jump to mind respectively.) And I would make mention of all the fun or surprising little moments, or talk about characterization. And this finale was overflowing with positive examples of all of these things.

But enough time has passed that all that I could say about these things has been said. There are dozens of great reviews and reactions that came out in a timely fashion and covered all that I could belatedly cover now; I’m not going to simply re-iterate. But at some point in the near future, I will re-watch the episodes, and take delight in all those things once again.

As for future blogs, I hope to do better than I have this month. But until the new season starts, I’m not entirely sure what I will blog about. I do have a blog planned for next week: another in my “Where I Hang My Hat” series, as I have jumped back into Fallout 4, armed with new mods and a desire to rework some settlements that need more attention.

Until then, I’ll leave you with this:

It's beyond a cliche phrase uttered on this site by now, but I wish I could upvote blogs.

That bit where Chrysalis crawled over the ceiling and twisted her joints around to look at Starlight (Thorax in disguise) still gives me the creeps :twilightoops:

Nice points on the episodes, exactly what I was thinking actually.

I absolutely plan to write Afterthoughts for Season Seven as soon as it starts.

:yay::yay::yay:

Yeah this ep and season were AMAZING! I do have to admit.. the conclusion was rushed, and really could have used some better build up to it, but still works. All the characters were glorious, just, everything about it besides the pacing of the last climax were stunning and amazing, and just so great. My only more personal taste issue is the lack of songs.... at least one big final song to close out the season it just... doesn't feel like a finale without one.

The new designs... I kind of like, my only real issue is shown in that pic you have of Thorax, him having those massive Moose antlers, AND his more unicorn like horn. Having both it just overkill.... one or the other please.

But, missed your blogs, yay for more and hopefully you find something worth talking about soon, could always check out some other amazing cartoons to talk about.... *Cough* Voltron * Cough* But yeah, up to you.

I’m not entirely sure what I will blog about.

You could always just take a break until something of interest shows up. Maybe review some movies or games that are coming out? I could always use another addition to my ever growing lists. :rainbowwild:

“Where I Hang My Hat” series, as I have jumped back into Fallout 4, armed with new mods and a desire to rework some settlements that need more attention.

I just recently uninstalled that game due to my completion of the last DLC. :twilightoops: I finished my crudely made Hall of Armor for all of my collected Fallout suits and it had me wondering if I should search for a mod to give me unlimited supplies so I could build to my hearts content. :twilightblush: I think I had put a light behind each armor so that they appeared to be glowing at night.

As always I look forward to your next blog! :scootangel:

Personally I'd love more tips on writing or seeing other things you've written or been involved with (like your Xero Hour blog post). But I'm confident that with whatever you choose to do, you will do great.

This has admittedly been a slow winter for blogs. I’m sorry that I haven’t blogged more often.

Ha, some winter! Only lasted two days here in Florida.

But anyways, don't feel sorry. As you said, you had no motivation. It happens to us all. So don't feel bad and i'm sure everyone understands.

Speaking as someone who would be interested in hearing your rants, is there anywhere else on the web you’re active? Blog, social media, etc.

Well I am not sure if it's relevant anymore, but the third printing of Fo:E has started. (kinda, they are waiting for everyone to pay still)

4404898 Check out my previous blog for my announcement on the third printing. :raritywink:

tbh in all reality, changelings are just drones, thorax and the other one are defects (or princes) as we saw the changelings were filled with hate since birth and i think this was really anti climatic the big drone high, you just had to ask them to share the resorse they needed and were starving because they did not have enough and suddenly they transform and all crimes are forgiven? many ponys most likly died to be honest by the changelings capturing them and sucking them dry. yeah I do believe that they should have been able to stand up and leave but being forced to change their entire identities is very extreme and scary, thats like humans being forced to become ponies or die. personally i felt like a rebelion would have happened at some point and by learning about friend ship they would not feel hungry like thorax was. but not a complete race/ identity change

As I said above, not a blog for political discussions. Let's keep them out of the comments too. Thanks, everyone. :scootangel:

Bice blog as always Kkat! ^^ I did notice this:

seeason’s arc

but it is fine. Small accidents are bound to happen.

Anyway, it is always nice to hear your thoughts on the Episodes... I need to rewatch the finale. A one time watch isn't very good. I also agree with you, the site shouldn't be used to talk about politics. Have a good day! :)

Glad to see I'm not alone in catching the Hobbit reference. Especially since the movies didn't have that title at all.
The whole redeeming villians thing has been something I've always liked. Whether it's mlp (and they seem to do a GREAT job in that regard) or other TV shows, movies or books. It is also extraordinary when they do this when they have such a tragic past that lead them to that path (ex. Vader or Starlight). Because you see them as almost victims of their circumstances or choices and it's just absolutely great when you see them make it right in the end.

4408889 Pardon me for being two months late to asking this, but your comment made me curious. Can one be a victim of their choices?

4487810 I believe so but there is a point at which the sense of victim goes away and they just go full villain.

4487899 I should've been clearer I think. If they're choices you freely made, I don't see how one can be considered a victim. Aren't those just the consequences of the choices you made?

4490483 Ah I see what you mean
I suppose that's true, of course sometimes your choices may be based on deception or lack of knowledge but than again you make a good point.
