A good story isn't measured by how long it is, but by how long it stays with you.

Commissions? More Than Likely! · 10:30am Jan 28th, 2017

Hey, guys.

So, it's been a while since I've blogged anything. There's a myriad of reasons, ranging from work and wonky night shifts, to a few new irl friends, to Overwatch/FF14, to buying my first house that I'm now all settled into. But really, that'd only be a half truth.

You see, my magnum opus-to-be Into the Dark is complete and simply awaiting finishing touches and editing before post, but it's been that way for a while now. For the life of me, I just can't bring myself to work on it, despite how much I love the story and want to share it with all of you--because finishing the story would mean seeing it come to an end, and quite frankly, I can't see anything beyond it.

All of my stories are written. All the things I've wanted to say I have. I have no more words of my own that fill me with a passion worth putting to paper. It's a prospect that leaves me utterly petrified to consider, being done with this site.

I don’t want to be done… I love this site--all it's wonders, all you people that have come to love my words, and yes even the drama and weird shit that ends up in the feature box that all I can do is shake my head, sigh, and wonder why the hell people actually read that shit. I've put too much of myself into this community to simply pack up and walk out. I can't do it. This place, all of you, means too much to me.

But like I've said, I have no more words of my own. I don’t know what to write. But I think there might be something I can still do yet to keep that fire burning.

First, I've started doodling for that One Full Day poem illustration. I know, finally, right? I suck major horsecock at drawing, but every sketch is another closer to decent work.

Second, I've been flirting with the idea of writing commissions.

I've no need for money, as I'm blessed with a steady and stable well-paying job, and I have no intention of changing that now. But perhaps we could do a little good with this arrangement: I'll follow the precedent recently set by Cynewulf and say 5$/1000 words of prose (poetry I'm also willing to do, but prices will be decided case by case). You pay part up front, I start writing. When I'm almost done, we finish the transaction and I complete the story. All proceeds will be donated to the Hasbro Children's Hospital. It's only fitting.

Fir how we'll go about writing this, you give me the characters, genre, a synopsis, and we'll shoot ideas back and forth until we reach a consensus on the happenings of the fic.

As standard fare, I reserve the right to cancel and refund any story that gets away from me, to reject any story idea that I don’t like, etc., to post the story on my account with idea credit to the commissioner, and any other legal shenanigans that comes with this shtick. Don’t forget, I write at my own pace, and I hope my writing this far has shown that it's worth the wait.

I'll open three commission slots for now and keep that updated as we go. As preferences go, I tend to write Dark/Tragedy/Comedy, so those are more likely to get my pick among the litter; and while it has no bearing on what ill write, Luna is my favorite character.

As always, Onward and Upward!

Yeah, that's definitely a thing. I'm positive many authors (myself included) have hit that not seeing past the end after reaching the end of a fic (especially when it's a long fic and especially when it's an opus). Not having anything to write and having something to write but never writing it means death all the same, really.

So, I think commissions are a really really great idea. It should keep dem juices flowing. And who knows, maybe some of them juices will form a new idea past that end

I'd request a commission based around that complete-after-thirteen-months you-know-what. But you'd have to read it. :trollestia: Until then, I'll withhold mine~

That can be arranged...

Sorry to hear about your idea well running dry... you've probably already thought of this, but have you tried doing some out of the ordinary things to replenish it? My nearly-finished novel has roots in a long car trip I took with my wife some years ago, for example.
Commissions could very well be the perfect way to do that, of course

I've just been going around finding all my favorite authors (and dont be fooled by the fact I just "followed" you with this account today, I've been reading your stories since "Sprinkles"!), and I've been asking the same thing of all of them. So I've got like, a whole blurb prepared now, hope you don't mind:

Ok, so:

I always wished that they explored the idea of the three tribes being the stewards of nature and the seasons more than they did.

You remember how cool Winter Wrap-up and the Running of the Leaves were as concepts? It had kind of the air of the ancient cultural myths told to explain where the seasons come from, why it snows in winter, why leaves fall in fall and why flowers bloom in spring, etc!

I'd like to read a story expanding on how the earth ponies, Pegasus and unicorn's work together to make all the other seasons happen!
But listen, I’m looking for much more specific stuff: phenomena like the blooming and hibernation of seasonal flowers/trees, the migration or metamorphosis of animals/insects, the purpose behind fog and spring showers!

How do rabbits change their coat color for the winter and then back again? Do the unicorns help change their color?

Why did the earth ponies decide that only these specific plants would continue to grow throughout winter?

Once the pegasi make the rainbows how/when do they set them up?

How do the tribes help the marine life survive the freezing of the lakes?

I want more of that kind of thing, that talks about the natural order like in a fairy tale, giving these childish explanations for why things are the way they are but in a way that's internally consistent, so that you can almost take it seriously! That is something you are very good at: giving your narration that mythical, fairy tale quality!

But yeah, full disclosure I'm basically hoping your story will give me new ideas/inspiration for some art/animations that I'm planning on making about the three tribes that focuses on this.

Its gonna have humanized ponies but thats besides the point: the point is I need ideas and I'd like to comission you to brainstorm them and feed them to me in fic form!
