CIDER IS BAD

Comments ( 158 )

At least Apple family cider isn't exported to the UK.

Dang, Apple Bloom. You're an even worse liar than Jackie.

Already want to hurt her.

Piss off, Spoiled Milk. You owe your fiancé's business to the Apple family.

huh family name changes do exist in MLP

Cider is delicious shut up

4246187 I love how her cutie mark is a diamond ring and her original name is Spoiled Milk. :rainbowlaugh:

Anyone else hoping that we would at least see a cameo of the rest of the teenage main cast? This would have been the chance to see if Pinkie, Fluttershy, and Rainbow actually lived in town by that period of time, or not. And there is the fact Rarity lives there.

That being said, where the heck were they? Hell, where’s Apple Bloom? Cause no way they'd just leave her home by herself without any supervision?

… Right?

Oh god please tell me their parents are with her.

No wonder Big Mac prefers to be quiet so often.

4246200 I was about to say Mac needs to shut up. :ajbemused:

Rewind: Did we just miss how Big Mac got his mark?

Damn it guys, stop giving Big Mac incredibly interesting stories that we miss!

Is it just me, or am I cringing at this episode?

Solid lesson, though.

Where the heck is baby Apple Bloom? She's gotta be around if the parents are dead by this point.

4246212

I know, all children should learn they need to make up lies that can't be so easily disproven :trollestia:

4246212
It's not just you.

Considering Apple Bloom isn't in the episode, I'm expecting to see the parents at some point. If they don't show (or there isn't a mention of why they aren't there), I'm going to start believing some of the fics that claim Apple Bloom is AJ's daughter, not her sister.

And so Big Mac's descent has begun.

The first of many Eeyups to come.

I saw a reference The Shining with the twins back there as well as Ditzy/Derpy/Muffin with a blindfold on.

MysticAlpha got the ages wrong, but he had the right idea.

Okay, that's not the kind of "ended up in the hospital" I was expecting. :ajbemused:

Who the Hell names their child, Spoiled Milk? I think when you give your foal a name like that, you are setting them up to end up being nasty.

And now to wait until Monday at midnight to watch the UK airing of Top Bolt.

4246231 The livestream chat I was with didn't seem to mind. Dicks were out for her.

This is a fun episode and one of the better ones this season. The best part for me was seeing Applejack and Big Mac when they were younger, and I loved Granny Smith's spunk. But I'm disappointed that they didn't show baby Bloom or teenage Rarity and Pinkie Pie, who must have lived in Ponyville at the time. But at least teen Derpy had a cameo.

Fun fact: there really is an "apple blight" called fire blight - it's a virus that infects apple and pear trees.

Also, here's a weird question. Where was baby Apple Bloom? If the parents are dead at this point, then shouldn't we see her at least as an infant? Or were the parents just away? Did they leave all decisions on the farm to Granny?

Granny Smith is the boss of us all.

That was a weak one, I'm afraid. Like Applejack's "Day" Off, it was a comedy of errors done in the style of the Stooges. The idea was good but execution was pedestrian, I'm afraid. There were some nice 'wincing with laughter' moments when some of AJ's increasingly-frantic lies and fabrications came undone all the more quickly but, overall, there wasn't too much to write home about this.

The good bits? I think that 'Spoiled Milk' is proof that some ponies literally have no instinct for naming their foals. Either that or they have a tradition of giving their foals horrible names to scare off the Changelings! Also, we now know why Big Mac is taciturn. We also know why AJ has a phobic aversion to telling lies!

Overall...? A pedestrian and ultimately-forgettable episode.

BenRG's Rating: 7/10

P.S.:
I'm betting that TinyPops was scared off by Big Mac's near-live vivisection. There was too high a possibility of some little treasure being inspired to try it with a pet... or a friend! :fluttershbad:

This might be the first episode I've ever seen of anything where even the short preview description is a bait-and-switch. That was not what was implied by the phrase "lands the whole family in the hospital".

I loved it, to be honest. After a really, REALLY rough patch of episodes the series seems to have picked up again. While I wasn't that interested in the moral dilemma, just getting a look into the history of Applejack and Big Macintosh was interesting enough to carry the episode on it own.

Good show.

4246250
That, or cider. American English is the only Indo-European language of which I'm aware where cider isn't always alcoholic.

4246239

I'm hoping next season is gonna show us more teen main casts. It would've been nice to see them in this episode.

Also, where the heck are the parents?

4246252 Granny Smith herself described it as "landing the whole family in the hospital," but yeah, it's still a misleading summary.

the writers REALLY hate applejack

4246242 God I hope this doesn't give people more 'proof' that Applebloom is AJ's daughter.

That's all I can say about AJ and Big Mac in this episode

This episode affirms that Pony Filthy Rich is still nicer than EG Filthy Rich. And that Spoiled Rich is still a horrible pony.

4246269
That or they've been waiting to do an "Applejack gets caught in a web of lies" episode for the last six years

This was actually pretty good for the archetypal "lies and more lies" episode. Although I found some of AJ's lies to be a bit contrived, overall I thought that she was still pretty in character (that being character growth) and most of the lies were believable in that I thought someone might actually make them in this situation. That's a big step up from when "Suite Life on Deck" did this and it got so ridiculous that even the fact that it was a kids sitcom didn't save it. So yeah, unusually high quality for both a kids show and an archetypal episode.

On a side note, where's Apple Bloom in all this? More importantly, where are their parents?

Applebloom: So what about mom and dad?
Applejack: They're dead I mean it's not like I slept with Big Mac after a night of drinking too much cider...I said that last part out loud didn't I?
Granny: You sure did

4246285 like the exact opposite of how an aj episode is SUPPOSED to work

yeah right, and I'm Morgan freeman :ajbemused:

4246315
Applejack's lied before. Remember when the Flim Flam Brothers sold their Miracle Curative Tonic? It seemed to work with Granny Smith for a while, and Applejack actually endorsed the Tonic, even though, deep down, she knew it was all a scam.

4246320 like i said.... the writers don't care about AJ maybe the writers should have sticked to their plan of making her a background character or maybe at least have her killed off like they are doing with rarity

4246332

their plan of making her a background character

have her killed off like they are doing with rarity

[citation needed]

Moral of the story: If you're gonna lie, you'd better be good at it. :trollestia:

Really, this just goes to show that Applejack has always been a bad liar. In present time, she can't hold a pokerface to save her life, and past her just laid it on way too thick. It might have taken her a while before she realized she'd rather stick to the truth, but it's still proof that she's never been cut out for deceit. :ajsmug:

4246340

their plan of making her a background character

are you new to the internet

4246242 Apple Bloom wouldn't have been born yet. She's the same age as Diamond Tiara, and her parents aren't even married yet. I doubt Spoiled would risk getting pregnant until she was rolling in cash ... I mean married. As such, Apple Bloom wouldn't have been born yet either.

Which does make the question of where the parents are matter all the more.
