Two Questions · 4:06am Aug 18th, 2016

F'naaaaaaaa.

So, two questions for y'all.

1 - How and when did you first stumble upon any of SS&E's / IC's / JE's / BH's stories and

2 - When did you finally come to realize how much I suck?

Ooh, ooh, questions I can answer!

First fic was Background Pony, which maybe was two or three chapters in when I first started reading. Wasn't long after I read your one-shots, and then became super into your shiet with your blog posts and then with L-Day. After that... there was no looking back. I read through EoP and while I've had different periods of how much I was into your stuff, I now have only something like 9 of your ponyfics left to read (which is friggin' weird). I started Austraeoh at first in like 2013, though was dissuaded by the beginning of Eljun and didn't come back until a friend got me back into it in like 2014, and then I caught up in like mid-2015 and then started Appledashery and lulz.

When did I start to realise how much you suck? Probably L-Day. That was when I was like "damn, this shit is awesome" but at the same time I was like "uhhhhh". But really, you don't suck. Ya nerdbasket.

Don't be silly! You've sucked forever! :pinkiehappy:

Now lick the tip... now choke on it, princess. :pinkiecrazy:

I can't remember the answer to your first question. Is the second question a trick question by the way?

4155620 Same. First Background Pony, then I quit maybe after Ch. 9, but then AppleDashery happened and, well...

How and when did you first stumble upon any of SS&E's / IC's / JE's / BH's stories

2012.

2 - When did you finally come to realize how much I suck?

See previous answer.

For Question One, I think it was The Things Tavi Says. Might have been something else. Not really sure. Time is hard on the Internet.

Question Two: Every decision made regarding Shellstrings. Awkwardly implemented onomatopoeia, bland or just plain unlikable characterization, painfully obvious foreshadowing, and most of the people with sympathetic viewpoints being jackasses (tribalism not intended). And that's not even mentioning the truly confounding choice to frontload so much exposition and sub-plottery that I really think the description should at the very least be revised to make it clear that Lyra isn't the focus.

Also, the horse puns are just kind of lazy and cringe in that one.

Seen IC's work for awhile, but I wasn't interested in the adventure genre at the time. Took me sometime to realize you had multiple accounts. Even then I only started reading Austraeoh after you completed the first book. I didn't even know about your plans for an ongoing series until the fourth book. I caught up somewhere in the fifth one.

Silly lemur, everyone sucks, the question is if you spit or swallow.

I first came across EoP via EqD.
Then I later read BP.
And then at some point I realized they were both written by the same person and things continued from there.

#1 -- Either Never or Background Pony I think. I also read Austraeoh from the start. This was before I had an account on FimFiction. I only did that when I started to write. I lurked the site for a good while before that.
#2 -- probably when a certain repetitive fic fic fic fic fic fic fic fic fic fic fic fic fell apart.

1. Background Pony sounded neat and then it was neat.
2.

1. Appledashery. I originally came to FiMFiction looking for Appledash, and yours was one of the first I found.
2. Around the same time Donald Trump was elected President.

1 - How and when did you first stumble upon any of SS&E's / IC's / JE's / BH's stories?

EoP, when the AJ chapter was posted on EQD.

2 - When did you finally come to realize how much I suck?

When I came to realize that your standards for yourself are unattainable.

The urge to Scratch is strong, but don't blame me if you end up with scars. *Pulls out oven gloves and duct tape.*

I started with End of Ponies (which I still think is good)

1. Spelling it Out, sometime in 2012 (in decreasing order of likelihood: EqD, Fimfic's feature box, browsing Fimfic semirandomly).
2. Nope, not yet. Should I have by now? Oh. Sorry.

My first fics was "Just Quit Yer Fussin' and Snuggle Up, Sugarcube!". in my earliest times in the fandome back in old good 2015 days, when I was rampaging over Fimficion in search of cute appledash fics. That story touched me hard, but I didn't recongize yet the author. After some time I realized you were the person behind that and other awesome fics.
Appledashery has is own funny story, for a lot of time I had it in my "read it later" without knowing you were it's creator, thinking it should be some kind of terrible fic full of cliches from someone who didn't know when to end a story. Then I read it and I fell in love with it. Then you make certain letter not happen and I started to despicing it but it was already too late and I'm addicted to it anyway.
Of course, later I discovered the Austraeoh saga and that it is, in my humble opinion, the second best thing that MLP has given to the world (after appledash, of course)

And well, you are really awesome, but when I discovered you could also suck? The last arc of Appledashery. Celestia in a bike, so much sighing, so much apple-stalking, SO, MUCH, SIGHING, you are to Rainbow-sighing what Michael Bay is to explosions.

My First Fics from you that I read were the fics Nuzzle therapy, Nuzzle locked and If I could catch Fuzz in a Bottle ( I think thats what they're called?) as I like TwiDash a lot and they appeared on the feature box.

I didn't notice the user at the time, but i clicked into your user page in hopes of finding more TwiDash as i really liked If i could catch fuzz in a bottle. What I found was so much more, I just kept reading fic after fic written by you.

I realised how much you sucked when I read Just quit your fussin and snuggle up sugarcube, which showed me that AppleDash can be really cute if written well. After reading that and the various vignettes of appledashery monofluffery on blueharvest, I dove into Appledashery.

Mistakes Were Made

But I still cant wait for volume 2!

1.) I joined the fandom in the spring of 2012, and over the next few months I seemed to come across references to you here and there (updates for Background Pony on EQD, the EOP song by P1Kenobi, etc.) Finally, around October, I decided to read Background Pony, and I've been clinging to the train ever since.

2.) I still haven't realized it. I mean, I don't love every story you write, or every decision you make in every story, but you're the most reliably interesting and entertaining writer in the fandom, for my two cents, and the fact that I've read something like 6 million words of your work is a testament to that (and possibility to my own lack of a life, too).

1.

Of your longer stories I read EoP first. Probably around 2012 or so? Then I think background pony, Appledashery, Austreaouh in that order.

2.

When I pointed out that "first thing's first" should actually be "(to put) first things first" but I kept seeing it the other way (I get #triggered by unnecessary apostrophes.)

Via an old fan song. One by Pony1Kenobi.

In other words, I found you through EoP, and stayed for the rest.

~Skeeter The Lurker

First thing I read of yours was Tinitus. After that I got started on Austraeoh when it was only around 70 chapters in. I actually subscribed to Imploding Colon before I subbed skirts. As far as sucking is concerned, you have sucked the sadness and the joy from my life many many times now. It's all a blur to me at this point. I cannot recollect the first suck.

Valentine's Day 2015, Midnight decided to forgo the stupid party they were at and search for Romance Pone-pone stories instead. Enter Appledashery, which was about 500-600 chapters at that point. About chapter 300 or so, continuous references to an "Austraeoh" finally caught Midnight's attention, causing them to finish Appledashery in a single day, create their fimfiction account specifically to comment on how amazing Appledashery was (and still is) and then proceeded to begin the epic journey of Austraeoh, at some point which led to Background Pony, and then the infamous End Of Ponies. Now scream at Midnight: Still haven't read EoP. Because it isn't complete, and the thought of starting that epic story which just doesn't end...

See back to Appledashery, in which 1000 chapters in, there is still no appledash to be had. (Nah, still love it.)

Out of your 126 stories, I've probably read only 115 or so. Still need to finish Scale, Background Pony, actually start reading EoP...

But you do suck pretty bad. Seriously, only 126 stories? Oh, wait. How many alts do you have with how many stories each? So much skirts-pone...

Also, you've sucked up all of the emotions left in this sad shell of a body that Midnight inhabits.
#neverforgetaboutsimon

It was either one of your one shots or the Things Tavi Says.

And I haven't formed a negative opinion of you.

1. Eop eqd. Really hurt my studying.
2. When I read your attempts at horror fics I realized you weren't god. I used to dismiss your comedies but that was just bad luck. I like the majority of them.

Oh, this takes me back. It would've been, what, 3 years ago now? 2? Meh whatever. Time is an illusion. Point is, i was new to the site, and relatively new to all things pone. I was cruising around the site looking for something absurdly long and somewhat well recieved. Enter Background Pony. I came, I saw, I lost my soul. After that I got short skirt-curious(insert drag queen/pedo jokes here) and took a look at this pretentiously overrated garbage called out.of.character. At which point stockholm syndrome took over and I started to investigate the lemur homepage, followed a kaizo series of links to discover alternate accounts and stories attached to them, flew east, dashed apples, scratched octaves, and here I am.

As for realizing when you sucked, I seem to be malfunctioning because I don't seem to possess that opinion. Then again, I haven't read EoP to its current point, so I guess that might have something to do with it?

1. Stumbled across Blue Harvest's Twilestia one.

2. Hasn't happened yet, maybe you need to start sucking first for someone to realize. Though it does suck that I am out of good Sunlight fics. Get on that!

1. First chapter of Background Pony. Saw it up on the top of the feature box for a week or so and decided to give it a chance. Then P1K's song got me on the EoP train. Read a lot but not all of SS&E's stuff after that.

Eventually read Austraeoh when I figured out who IC was. Caught up to wherever it was at at the time (Innavedr maybe?). Then I threw out my good judgement and read Appledashery. Which I followed until about chapter 900 and haven't yet gotten had the motivation to continue.

2. The last sentence of the HHH edition of the Petra arc :trixieshiftleft:
Or maybe it was Shell/Lerris.
Or perhaps Ciderspace.
Or back when she refused to be remembered, to change and save her and him and all of them.

So, ok, there have been some hard times. I don't get my way sometimes, and that's ok, because they're your stories. not mine. And you know what?
Given the chance, I'd gladly read them all again.

Because, after more than 4 years, I'm still here. And you're still writing. Long after whatever glory days we all may or may not have had. So I'll keep reading. Because I believe this has all been worth it.

TL:DR-
Live long and Dash Apples, ya crazy lemur.

1/ Like many others, through The End of Ponies. More specifically, when I first discovered the wonders of audiobooks nearly two years ago, one of the first ones I've listened to was the EoP reading by Pixel Prism. Then I discovered, among others, Background Pony and Austraeoh and boy did my Read It Later list grow several sizes that day.

2/ Now don't be silly, we know that the heat death of the universe is not happening for quite a while yet.

1 - That time on /fic/ when we would preread/proofread chapters of EoP way back in da day.

2 - Not yet.

3 - Pantless Vinyl...

4 - Didney Warld. Have Fun!

1 - How and when did you first stumble upon any of SS&E's / IC's / JE's / BH's stories and

First story I came across from you was Background Pony back around probably April or May of 2014. I was big on Lyra stories and was looking for longer fics with her as a main character. It was one of the first fan fics that made me realize that fan fiction can actually be good, instead of just wish fulfillment coupled with poor writing. I didn't read anything more of yours till about 15 stories after BP when I encountered End of Ponies and enjoyed that story as well. From there I fluttered around FIMfic hoovering up any decent sounding stories I could until I came across Austraeoh which caught my curiosity. It sat in my read later list till about a month later when I found it again and went 'Rainbow Dash flies East? Okay this tells me nothing so I guess I had better read it'. I sat down and read everything up to Yaerfaerda, I was hooked. Since then I've been firmly on the Skirts train and enjoying your non-kaizo works.

2 - When did you finally come to realize how much I suck?

I wouldn't say 'suck', more like 'shown to have flaws like everyone else'. You've got some amazing talent when you commit to a long story. That being said, I came to that particular revelation when I saw just how many kaizo fics you produce. That realization has only increased with your daily stories becoming more and more immature with fart references increasing in frequency. I'd also mostly agree with 4155641 about Shellstrings not being your finest example of storytelling (though I'd say the horse puns are fine). I do still plan on reading it and seeing how you plan on making it work out, however.

4155797 To be fair to the puns, I just don't particularly like puns at the best of times.

1. Oh, back when The End of Ponies still updated.... and was made out of gigantic chapters. Ah, I remember when Background Pony was the hypest shit. The Last Tears in Tartarus is great too, so many memories. feelsoldman

2. ¡/¡/ᖉOᖉᖉƎ¡\¡\

1. Horse words wise it was End of Ponies sometime around I want to say the second arc maybe? Obviously I've read your stuff from before that on Fanfiction.net. I was looking for longer darker stories to read at the time and came across it by searching IIRC.

2. You don't suck, you have flaws in your writing just like any other writer does. Every writer has tropes and other things they overuse or a flawed plot line here or there. It happens.

1. I must have been a moment of impulse away from starting EoP back in 2011 when it was barely 4 chapters long. One friend would rave about it and I'd consider plucking it from my bookmarks and go to town with it. But that never happened for reasons lost to me. Fic intake went down sharply between then and most of 2012.

Real answer? The Numbers Don't Lie in early 2013 (yeah yeah, the basic concept wasn't your idea but as an overall collab it was pretty nifty 5/7 material). This was at a time when I still checked EqD once a week/month for new reading material when I was too lazy to peruse here or sign up.... or even pay any attention to names attached to a story. I was pretty much entirely ignorant of Skirtswerk pre-East Stuff.

Oooooooh! Questions!

1: I think the first fic of yours that I read was We Live in a Kind World, and I think I ended up reading it not long after it was published. At the time I had literally no idea that you were even remotely popular, and I just went and binged about ten of your other short works over the next few days. It was fun, really! I think that was about two months into me joining this site, back in mid-2014. I'm not sure if I still count as a relatively new member of the fandom, now I mention that. I feel old, but also stupidly young.

2: I prefer to think of it as "When did I realise that Skirts also writes very silly things alongside the stuff I adore?" and the answer would probably have to be Clawgame. To be honest, I like that about you & your writing, the way you seem comfortable sharing such a wide range of things with us. To paraphrase the internet:

I think skirts is a pretty cool leemer. Eh rights ponis and doesn’t afraid of anything.

Either Nopony needs to know, and wondering where the appledash really was, or something else around that time, perhaps. Though I didn't really clue in that I'd been reading multiple stories of yours (I tend to look at the ficname and not the authorname). Couchtavia too afterwards, it's one that stayed in my mind a while. BP came later, and then austraeoh and all that.

2. Reading some of your sillier stuff, maybe? :P

1) End of Ponies. That was actually my major introduction into pony fanfiction in general, before that I was looking mostly for Doctor Who crossovers.
And then Austraeoh, while that one came later, I didn't at first know IC is your alias.

2) When you didn't finish EOP :trollestia:

1. I first found your main account years ago while browsing fimfic's list of most followed users and honestly my first impression was "what the f**k is this guy on?":rainbowlaugh: (it turns out that Disney princesses are a hell of a drug). At first glance all I found were a bunch blog posts consisting of seemingly random images and an assortment of random crackfics but I figured that since you had such a large following there must be something I was missing and gave you a follow anyway.

It wasn't until some time later that I finally got around to reading things like Background Pony and Hello, Sedna that I really started to appreciate the work you've done. And then one day this blog post convinced me to start this weird story with pseudo Norse-words and the main character travelling in one direction. The rest is history from there.

2. Meh, I've eventually come to embrace the insanity that is the standard fare Skirtsian fic.

Wow, that ended up being way longer than I'd intended but it's 5am and the caffeine has me overly chatty, f'naaa. <---(am I doing this right?)

1: Found EOP on EQD around autumn of 2011, checked it out because I thought it looked awesome and because I wanted to see if the pony on the cover picture was who I thought it was. I was right with both. Stopped reading it eventually because holy moly that was a lot of words for how relatively little was happening, and also because I saw that it had been on hiatus for a long time. Sometime later, I see Austraeoh in the feature bar when it's around 100 chapters; I check out maybe 15 before deciding that there are just too many for me. Cue probably a year and a half of browsing Fimfiction and soaking up other stories like a sponge, until I see the title "Innavedr" in the box this time. The title, cover art, and description are all eerily familiar, so I investigate. This time, I'm ready for it. A few hundred thousand words is like babby's first book to me. With the promise of Rainbow Dash meeting her frantic companions later on, I dive right in and eventually catch up just after the Rainboarke sets sail like a ship-bat outta ship-hell. During that period of time I follow the chain of blog posts and ravenously consume other content from the multifaceted author, including appledash suffering, appledash fluff, and another story that seems to have vanished. Aaaaand now we're here.

2: The exact time I realized how much you suck was 4:36:22 PM, January 24th, 2275.

Have fun in Princessland. And write that dayum cackfic when you get back.

1) End of Ponies. I still want to know how it was going to end, and what the hell happened to cause the Cataclysm.

2) Pah, I say to that! Pah!

I beleive I joined maybe 4 years ago, and out of names, I would say I recognise Background Pony is the one I read early on, and found it a top notch horror story. Such that I aint never reading it again and I aint trying not to think about it again as the local GP dont seem to think much of head goop problems.

Then I decided, Im just going to list the site by word count, start at the top and work down. Was ok the first 30 million words or so, but old stories end, new stories continue, other stories chain, and I havent even touchd the FoE stories except for the Twilight one alternative to SSE, and havent tried Appledashery yet through trundling through Chase.

As for suck, The SciFi series Perry Rhodan has been going weekly since early 60s in novelette version, and Id love to see a total word count comparison between that and All your output, and the point where you cross, or crossed, as I Think its 20 million so far for Rhodan. Its in German and they still dont have automated translation stuff built into the typewriters yet.

Its a long way, to TiperDashy, its a long way, to get a fan club. :pinkiecrazy:

1. End of Ponies

2. When I kept trying to click next chapter on EoP, but there was no next chapter! But at least now we know what caused the cataclysm: Skirts stopped writing and all that was ceased to be!

3. But, you know, Austraeoh is neat. :rainbowwild:

Holy shit, I joined this site three days before you did. :twilightoops:

In any case, I'm pretty sure I noticed Background Pony back when it was in the five-story, top-right corner feature box. I have long known about your princess-purple prose and onomatopoeia obsession, but I see those more as unique eccentricities than suckage per se.

I think the first fic of yours that I ever read was We Live in a Kind world. I remember putting it on read later and not paying much attention to it but when I finally got around to it, I was enthralled.
WLiaKW was then shortly followed by Background Pony and I have been addicted to lewd clothing and spontaneous and extreme releases of energy ever since. Still trying to work up the nerve to begin Austareoh though (that thing is so big it's scary).
Woe to me, I have yet to realise you suck, maybe I never will and it's hopeless.:raritydespair:

1) early 2012, I think. It started with the end. End of Ponies, that is. Then Background Pony, which
2) leads quite naturally into why you suck: because you make your protagonists suffer like no fic author I've ever read (DON'T STOP!) I mean EoP, BP, Austreoh, oh the suffering and frustration (PLEASE DON'T STOP!) It's an endless litany of tears and frustration and incredible character growth and, I just can't (please, don't stop...). :raritydespair:

PresentPerfect
Author Interviewer

Hard question. The first story I reviewed of yours was The Face Takers, way back in Halloween of 2013 (and also Herald in the same post, apparently). But I'm darn sure I was aware of you before that. I mean, it was exciting when you joined the writeoff, and Never happened well before that journal. So I have to assume it was sometime before then, quite possibly thanks to being part of the EQD pre-reading team and knowing Vimbert. :B

But like Loverboy, you have always sucked. :V (No, but it was definitely reading Never for the writeoff, you jerkface. >:B)

I realized how much you sucked when I realized you were encouraging people not to read Bon Bon Bon Bon Bon Bon Bon

1- I can't really say, it seems like forever. Do you remember the first time you talked? But I do remember being up to date with Background Pony shortly before it was finished. Found it while checking fanfic recs in TVTropes when I started reading pony. Austraeoh since near the end of Austraeoh. Appledashery since Appledashery.

2- It's more like a constant process. But I guess it started when I discovered you are an alt of Pen Stroke, device heretic, Sergeant Sprinkles, and all other popular pony writers of the first two years.

I'd read some of your stuff without registering your youness as the author at first, but it was whatever you posted a bit before The Things Tavi Says that got me thinking "who is this writer and why the hell do I not follow them?" Then I went on to read Austraeoh and related content for about 2 months straight as I hurried to catch up before Utaan ended. I see now that was never a concern.

As for your other question, erm... well, I realize constantly. With how evil you are to your protagonists in some stories and how you shake off this evil to write something nice and fluffy. You suck because you shamelessly make other people feel things for characters they shouldn't be hung up on. Also for teasing an as of yet unconfirmed Vinyl fic. That is a travesty. (Please write it if you find the time. Five seconds will do.)
