    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

Where I Hang My Hat III: Graygarden · 6:28pm May 18th, 2016

First, a bit of news for eager Fallout fans.

We've gotten a nice bit about the imminent Far Harbor DLC, including release times. Further information about the DLC has been leaked, and those with an advanced look have described it as "scary" and with a bit of a "Lovecraft" feel.

from Express:

There will be sides to pick and GIANT enemies to slay in the Fallout 4 DLC update, with some of those weapons that were found in game files but never made it into the vanilla version of Fallout 4, set to be introduced.

From what we have learnt so far, Far Harbor will have at least 20 locations spread across a large island map, three settlement areas that can be built on, and five new quests.

The game will also supply a large amount of side quests and include more skill check options, which were largely absence from the original release.

Consider me hyped.

As you know, settlement construction has become one of my favorite parts of playing Fallout 4, and I spend a criminal amount of time fiddling with my settlements. While not in the same league as many amazing settlement builders whose works you can find on the internet, I am rather pleased (and a little proud) of what I manage... at least, when it turns out anything like I intended. :raritywink:

Last time I did a "Where I Hang My Hat" blog, I showed off my settlement construction for The Slog. At that time, all the major construction that I had planned was completed, although there was still a fair bit of decorating to do. I'm happy to say that decorating is now done. Here are a couple example screenshots. (Clicking on the screenshot will take you to a full-sized image.)

Later this week, I will be posting my Afterthoughts blog for "A Hearth's Warming Tale". I must admit that I do not know when I will be writing up another installment of Angel's Pip-Boy Diary. But for now, please indulge me as I show off my Fallout 4 settlement: Graygarden!

This is Graygarden 3.0. When I first gained the area, I immediately wanted to build my settlement on the elevated highway. My first attempt at building Graygarden, pictured here, involved attempting to create a ramshackle wooden guard tower that rose up to the highway, with a couple structures on top. I liked that well enough, but when I got a mod that allowed me to use greenhouse and warehouse pieces, I thought it would look a lot better (plus I was excited to have buildings with windows). Angel tore the original tower down and replaced it with Graygarden 2.0, pictured here. And while the construction materials did fit in with the existing greenhouse, I really grew to dislike how it looked. So when I finally got a mod that allowed me to play around with Institute architectural bits, Angel tore the existing structures down again, and build Graygarden 3.0, which I will be showing off below.

But first, I want to show off someone else's work. Here is the amazing new version of "This Coming Storm" by The Manehattan Project! :raritystarry:

As before, the settlement isn't quite finished yet, but the bulk of the work is done. Click the pictures if you wish to see larger versions of the images.

Let me know what you think. And again, please share pictures of the settlements you are most proud of, or any screenshots from your game that you would love to share!

Oh dude, those are awesome. I've thought about posting pics of my Spectacle Island complex but... I'm so bad at the little details like these that I just feel inadequate.

I'm also hyped for the new DLC! And also actually having a new Valentine story to share. Nice!

What mods are you using for all those furnitures and the slanted roofs and stuff? Or is that all just from Picket Fences?

hi hi

I suppose I should really buckle down one of these days and add an "architecture," tab to the gear list. :derpytongue2:

I dunno, I kind of like Greygarden 2.0. It's too bad you can't upgrade the greenhouse to 3.0 materials. Or for that matter, tear down the overpass and rebuild it using fresh material. Hmm, that actually makes me think, maybe there is a market for a post-apocalyptic city/community builder game. You've got some sci-fi ones, there's things like sim city, and a bunch of medieval ones, but not much in the way of post-apocalyptic. At least, not any that are good.

I've barely played Fo4, so I certainly couldn't do any better. But the outside looks like a lego house I failed to construct properly, freeway and everything. I like the modern, sleek, and square look but it just seems out of place and somehow unintentional.

I really like the interiors though. It keeps that modern feel/open concept thing going. And it actually looks like a settlement meant to house a community of people. Both of which are hard to pull off with mega blocks and a hot wheels track.

I'm actually really wondering... when writing FO:E, did you have any melody in your head for This Coming Storm?

Wow! That certainly looks amazing!

Maybe even a bit too amazing. In some pictures it seems like the you step right out of the wasteland world and into another time. The developers of this mod certainly didn't skip out of the shiny bells and the expressive whistles in this mod.

I certainly hope the Far Harbor DLC is good... Angel facing Lovecraftian horrors? That could be interesting.

3954163 I'm actually wondering if they should add an option of a boat running from one of the other settlements to carry over supplies and people to that settlement.

It seems rather sad to have to have people swim over to Spectacle island to have stuff come and go from there.

A running boat for that is not edgy enough for the Wasteland! :raritywink:

Further information about the DLC has been leaked

That's technically correct, but it's more than that. The ENTIRE DLC has been leaked, and thanks to the way Bethesda structured the DLC files it reads exactly like a mod, so someone went and tossed it up on the Nexus a few days ago. Also, several people have played through it and gotten the story.

There's a certain irony in that Bethesda+Steam wanted to make free mods paid, but in the end their "paid mod" was put out for free.

Here's the ending, by the way. Been confirmed and all that jazz. DiMa's Nick Valentine's brother, the ending to the DLC is to flood Far Harbor or not, kill DiMa, or nuke the Children of Atom. Red Death is a special mirelurk that does nothing.

3954226 Ehh, Maybe your right.

Maybe an old rickety bridge or ship would be edgy. Or maybe a boat pulled by Mirelurks... Or how bout riding in on a tamed mirelurk queen that walks between the island and the main land? (Cue in the theme of "Ride of the valkyries" here):derpytongue2:

my future reaction when I eventually come across one of the preying mantis fucking things

Beautiful settlements! I'm nowhere near as talented.

I do have Ms. Fluffington the Deathclaw Matriarch guarding the Red Rocket though. Which much to my friend's displeasure is my best settlement.:rainbowlaugh:

3954173 Most of it is from Homemaker, the version of Snap'n Build (which, sadly, has been made unavailable to promote the mod creator's new version), and Settlement Objects Expansion Pack.

Maybe even a bit too amazing. In some pictures it seems like the you step right out of the wasteland world and into another time. The developers of this mod certainly didn't skip out of the shiny bells and the expressive whistles in this mod.

All the bells and whistles that the mod lets you play with already exist as part of The Institute, so this would represent taking The Institute's construction technology and bringing it into the Commonwealth. But yeah, I know what you mean about "too amazing". I try to create a variety of settlements with different levels of advancement. Tenpines Bluff and Oberland Station, for example, use primarily starting building materials for that ramshackle wasteland settlement look.

3954284

Cause the most I've made is a pretty decent tavern/inn at Oberland Station which is chock full of gwinette beer. It's fun to ring the bell and watch all the settlers come in and sit at the tables and start drinking. Makes me happy.

That Grey Garden 3.0 is pretty kick-ass. Maybe one of these days I will help the inhabitant robots out when I get around to it.

five new quests.

Wait, what? Five? That's literally the same amount of quests as Automatron gave us, for 15$ cheaper!
Sure, they probably meant five main quests, but if so, that is atrocious wording for it, and is still only one more main quest than Automatron.

We've gotten a nice bit about the imminent Far Harbor DLC, including release times. Further information about the DLC has been leaked, and those with an advanced look have described it as "scary" and with a bit of a "Lovecraft" feel.

Oh, neat! Are you telling me we'll be leaving Boston to head to a island where we'll see a spooky man in a mansion who will pay us an exorbitant amounts of caps to bring him Cthulu's throbbing Mcguffin from the clutches of some woman who we will find dead who left behind a message telling us to bring our what have you to the Rock Quarry which houses the altar which the only thing in all the wastes which can destroy it? Except for the other altar that can do the same damn thing?

Wow! That's the most original and not already tread upon to death dlc plot line I've ever heard!

:trollestia:

Graygarden 3.0 is so cool to look at it, you did such a great job with it! :pinkiehappy:

I finally found time to sit down and figure out how to build things in the game. So far all I have is a two story building with neon lights saying: "Casa Le GT-R." :rainbowlaugh: I also managed to make a small room for my power armors! :raritystarry:

I'm debating on making my first house a bit taller so I can make a landing pad for my armor that has a jet pack on it. If I actually make that portion of the house I'll more than likely set up some neon signs that say: Stark Tower. :rainbowwild:

The Far Harbor DLC can't get here any sooner. I've been so eager to play it and see what it has to offer. I'm ready to loot any and all weapons I find! :pinkiecrazy:

There's a YouTube video that tells you how to get far harbor early if you have the season pass, but I guess that won't matter in a few minutes, but the new dlc is great.

Is it funny or sad that after seeing these, the first thing that popped into my head was asking if you wanted to help me do Level Design for GoE? :P

Fantastic job, Kkat, as always. :)

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, I want to do stuff like that once mods become available for the PS4 version of the game.

Also, are you aware of any mods that allow for a more believable in-game ecosystem? As in some plants that are actually alive and green and a few more passive animals to support all these killer predators? It's always bugged me that squirrel and iguana meat exist in the game despite the lack of any visible living iguanas or squirrels. Hell, I'd be also be cool with glowing trees, carnivorous plants, and slurpasaurs to keep up the game's retro sci-fi monster movie aesthetic.
