I like AJ's song, and she looks quite pretty in her grandmother's hairstyle.
Rarity's small part steals the opening song unsurprisingly.
We get to see ghosts here. I think this is the first time the show actually depicts the spirits of the dead.
Luna's part is also awesome especially her singing. They should release those image song CDs like they do with anime. I'd buy Rarity's and Luna's.
I'm relieved to see Rarity's parents here. I was worried that they died in their vacation which is why Sweetie Belle is staying with Rarity.
Starlight Glimmer episode again? Come on.
I personally didn't like Pinkie Pie's part in the story. I thought her song was too bouncy and whimsical to fit with the semi-serious message that these ghosts are trying to impart. In the Christmas Carol movie with Jim Carrey, we got to see the ghost of Christmas Present die and wither into a skeleton. A pity we didn't see that here.
I think we didn't see that here because it's still a kid show and it would be too graphic. I thought Pinkie was good because she has that spirt same as Christmas Carol spirt of Christmas present. They are both joyful.

I agree that Pinkie Pies song / part of the story felt very out of place and weird but I have to say that I absolutely loved Pinkies dress. That was some top notch comfy looking robes right there.
I must also mention that while hearing Lunas song and when the windigoes comes out. Starlight says that windigoes isn't real and they are just a myth while Luna says they are all too real and her actions will allow them to come back. This reminded me about all this AntiVax that is going on. Some sicknesses might not be here right now but they are real and your actions will allow them to come back.

I think you're right on this one. The term Spirit is used here in the same way one would say "The spirit of Christmas" or "The spirit of the Law" It means the presence, meaning or emotional representation of the thing.
These Spirits are the embodiment of the thing they represent. The same way one could say that Discord is Chaos.
I liked the episode a lot, only because of the songs. I've decided that I don't like Starlight Glimmer and that she's uninteresting.
