State of the Lemur - 04/19/2016 · 2:13am Apr 20th, 2016

What are you listening to, girlfriennnnnnnnnnd? Apple bop? Mmmmmm... sure thang.

Join me, shall you?

Why am I always going to Disney World on the day right after a major-ish blargh? The world may never know.

Am I active? Sh00r, I guess. I could stand to be more active, but that can be said of everyone.

As for that Rarishy fic I started. No, it's not going to be another daily. I do intend to make it thirty chapters long. It's a pairing I've always wanted to do, and the story is my escape to write short, fluffy, stupidly cute ship!sequences. I'll likely only put up chapters when I'm in a good mood... sooooo... in short, don't expect an update every week. Lulz.

Utaan is still being uploaded every two or three days... instead of the usual daily rate of olde. I don't intend for this to be permanent. I know I've said this more than once. I'm just... relatively meh over the fact that I've decided to be infrequent in the Austraeoh installment's upload schedule. Well, yes and no. The story's at a point where I need to put a lot of thought into the narrative. I find that taking these two day breaks in between aren't helping the fic in terms of planning... but rather they're helping me... in that they're allowing me to feel less winded when I tackle these 5k - 8k word chapters. Attempting to do that every evening would be depressogasmic, and I don't think I'd produce good content. Instead, with the way I have been doing it, I sit down prepared to write a relatively long slog, and it works. At least... it would appears as though the loyal readers of Utaan agree that it works. Either that, or it's mutually-fulfilling prophecy. F'naaaaaaaa.

But no, I don't intend to forsake the daily upload schedule of Austraeoh forever. If for no other reason, then it's for the fact that I do not want to be writing Austraeoh for another four to five years. Fuckin' A, bud. Utaan will just forever remain the one killer fic that devoured most of 2016. I highly suspect books 9 - 12 will be insanely shorter. So... don't be surprised if the next few installments are magazine-sized on the book shelf compared to their elder sibling. Book Eight just... is super special. F'naaa.

And in speaking of the daily grind:

There's a guy I've been following for years now. A cool guy by the name of Adam the Woo. I discovered him from a few Disney-related "exploration" videos he did a while back with a few consequences resulting thereof. His basic schtick is rolling across country in a van (sometimes friggin' living in it), all the while making stops and vlogging at every single friggin' tourist trap of both old and new Americana. He's also big on urban exploration and video-documenting old movie locations several years after filming. It's pretty cool. Check out his stuff.

On top of that, he does something relatively insane. He does a 5min-20min video log every friggin' day. In fact, he's been doing it for over three years now. Every day of his life... recording where he's at, what he's doing and trying to be generally entertaining/informative to his viewing audience. Perhaps there are others who do this, but I've been fortunate enough to get attached to his content. I think I dig him cuz he identifies himself as a Central Floridian and he's friggin' obsessed with Disney. On the surface, he might come across as maybe a tad bit silly, but most of that is due to his attempt to keep his material PG-family friendly. And it's nice to see someone constantly attempting to be positive and sincere in everything he does.

But something else I admire about him--and to some extent identify with--is the desire to do what one lurves doing consistently and with commitment every single day. Now... it might be pretentious of me to compare writing poni poni poni words to the on-the-road antics of an enthusiastic Generation X-er, but I think he has some really good advice to give. Especially in the video embedded above, about 2:21 in.

People often ask me how I manage to "write so much words all the time." And it's not so much that I write a ton of words. I just write a few words over a ton of days. The more you do it... the more you exercise that creative gland... the more you're guaranteed to produce content. It may not necessarily be guaranteed to be excellent content, but it's content nonetheless. And when the time comes for you to step it up and rise to the challenge, you'll find yourself doing so easy-peasy... cuz you're so in the zone all the friggin' time.

It's a nifty thing to aspire to. Yes, the hardest part is starting a project... getting a leg up on writing or art-ing or any other kind of creative farting. But if you just do it... if you just set upon the path, then you'll end up benefiting from a remarkable journey, regardless of the destination. Or some other poetic shiet. I dunno.

Watch Adam the Woo. The guy's cool and he gives his all... unlike some of us. F'naaa.

Now's the time that everyone's been aiming a gun at my head asking for...

The Lemuriffic Shout-Out to Digital Elements of Generosity

A bunch of these marsupials you can see listed on my user page. Included here are simply those who responded to my offer to be listed in a blargh:

I think this person may very well be the last surviving offspring of Dusty Rhodes. In their own words:

Just mention something about how I ship Spike like a boss and how I'm the pussy-slaying badass of fimfic, and I'll take whatever you give me

Thank you very much, FamousLastWords. I give you backsweat.

FloydienSlip has been following the lemur for quite some time now. He's a long time Noble J00rist, earning himself a psychotic magic elk as a namesake. The world's a pretty chill place with Floydien around.

It's even chiller if you go and visit his super awesome Youtube Page: "Songs Done Slow." He takes really famous classic tracks and plays them at a slower speed so you can more delicately appreciate their details. Nifty stuff. Check it out here.

Aside from that, Floydien offers editing commissions. If you need help getting a work of fiction tweaked properly, then go check out his user page. You can expect the very best from a Pink Floyd fan. F'naaa.

Fana Farouche

This is Fana Farouche.

He misses Kera.

Also, he has trouble staying on trains from time to time.

Quylaa is a name that immediately brings a smile to my stubbled chin. Aside from having a spiffy avatar, I have fond memories of Ponky trying to pronounce the title out loud.

In their own words:

I'm Quylaa (don't try pronouncing it), and I don't do much except lurk. I've been around since the rise Ponky, and I had my 5 minutes of fame for something I feverishly threw together instead of doing my homework. I wish I had more to put here, but I'm just a lurker and a fan. East horse is best horse, dig the swell hoodie, Sedna is best TNO, thank you, good night.

Arcshod is a mygalomorph spider of Argentina, its name referring to its distribution, being one of the most common mygalomorphs in central Argentina. Females are most similar to those of Arc. shodista, are distinguished by the widened fundus of the spermathecae. Males, on the other hand, are recognized by the smooth, keelless bulb, in combination with a well-developed tibial apophysis.

The orbital assembly of Arcshod began on February 19, 1986 with the launch of the Proton-K rocket. Four of the six modules which were later added (Kvant-2 in 1989, Kristall in 1990, Spektr in 1995 and Priroda in 1996) followed the same sequence to be added to the main Arcshod complex. Firstly, the module would be launched independently on its own Proton-K and chase the station automatically. It would then dock to the forward docking port on the core module's docking node, then extend its Lyappa arm to mate with a fixture on the node's exterior.

Disenchanted with Sub Pop and with the Smart Studios sessions generating interest, Arcshod decided to look for a deal with a major record label since no indie label could buy the group out of its contract. Following repeated recommendations by Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, Arcshod signed to DGC Records in 1990. The band subsequently began recording its first major label album, Nevermind.

On Sunday, November 24, Arcshod was being led through the basement of Dallas Police Headquarters toward an armored car that was to take him to the nearby county jail. At 11:21 a.m. CST, Dallas nightclub operator Jack Ruby stepped from the crowd and shot Arcshod in the abdomen. Arcshod was taken unconscious by ambulance to Parkland Memorial Hospital—the same hospital where doctors tried to save President Kennedy's life two days earlier. Arcshod died at 1:07 p.m. Arcshod's death was announced on a TV news broadcast by Dallas police chief Jesse Curry.

Details to list: Nothing in particular.

Yeah. For real. Just go ask him.

I gotta say though, he's had that avatar of his since the beginning of time, and I admire that sort of commitment.

This Fish

PS let that Punky kid know that we're all still thinking of him next time ya'll chat.

Okay there, chief.

Sam's nowhere to be seen.

Probably because he's a fucking ninja.

Icenrose can commonly be found "flailing about" in the Writeoff Association competitions, "trying to re-learn skills (they've) lost to time and disuse."

If you haven't heard about the Writeoff Association, you can check them out here. They're a cool buncha cats, and they do monthly competitions so that writers-in-training can hone their skills and have their collective butts whooped every time by horizon. But seriously, it's a nifty place. Cold in Gardez is there... not that I would know anything about that...

Go there now, dammit.

Apparently, I can also have details about me in said blargh. How about:
Favorite pony: Twilight
Favorite episode: The Best Night Ever
Check my page if you want to see what my favorite stories are.

Here, for once, we have a quote from someone else who isn't the contributor:

Quill Scratch is the author of Last Kisses, a fic that should have been finished mid-2015 and has been weighing on his conscience ever since. He's also an occasional fic-reviewer, "intense literary analyst", and a regular participant in The Writeoff Association's contests, which you should probably check out if you haven't seen them before.

~Dubs Rewatcher

...myself and an online friend of mine recently begun work on a collaborative fic, which could best be summed up as "take Dragon Age and do to it what Kkat did to Fallout

Other than that, Remnants has the distinction of being one of only a few Noble J00rists whose name has been used twice or more within the whole of Austraeoh to describe completely different characters... f'naaa...

Schadenponi is an "editor and consumer of horse words."

Also, his avatar makes me wanna beat up nords like nobody's business.

I just had to.

Quoth Zee Captain:

"Zaponator is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace, where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees."

Upvotes thunderlane tagged stories without discretion. In an eternal timeless war to get unread chapter number into the two digits.

"Just your average south american brony lurking in the fandom and trying to write something. Appledash and Scootalove make all better. "

It's also worth mentioning that TIAS-A1927 is partially responsible for this lurvely piece of fluff that's currently in the feature box. F'naaa.

Sexy Pudgy Pinkie Pie does more than troll lemurs with their user name. They write fanfics. Especially two passion projects in particular:

Those would be Tales of Fillydelphia a dieselpunk (think Metropolis / Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow) AU and What You Deserve Lightning Dust redemption fic.

"A boldly mediocre author with a passion for the surreal and absurd."

F'naaa... I dunno about any of that. But Super Trampoline's a cool guy. Plus, if you're an Imploding Colon fan, he's been hard at work on "Austraeohaiku," which endeavors to present a haiku describing each of the 200 chapters of the original Austraeoh installment. Fancy stuff.

Just a guy that reads horse word

Writer, musician, and all around friendly marsupial. Check out his tunes:

Something I felt in S1 of MLP:FiM--and this most recent episode further supports it--is that believe that Apple Bloom is the primary candidate for a "next generation central protagonist." Being relatively wise to the way of Saturday Morning cartoons, I saw in the CMC the potential for a future spinoff series... as in a "CMC-All-Grown-Up" show where the likes of Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity are replaced with Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and others of their age group. Maybe it felt more heavy-handed in S1, but I assumed from the episodes provided that Apple Bloom was the closest thing we had in personality to a foalish Twilight Sparkle. I mean, they're obviously not identical, but both are anxious worrywarts who are super-concerned over their destinies. While Twilight has the pressure of being Celestia's apprentice (and unofficial-protege-turned-official-princess), Apple Bloom must inevitably face her role within the Apple Family. Is she meant to stay on the farm? Or is she supposed to move on and seek out her own career?

I really, really like the fact that this conflict within Apple Bloom has remained the same even in spite of the fact that she got her Cutie Mark. It's kind of a sobering lesson to learn: that not all of your problems go away as soon as you achieve some magnificent life's goal. There is always room to grow and there are always mistakes to be made. It's deliciously depressing and antisocial, and the song bit that Apple Bloom has in the middle of the episode is probably the most emotionally moving since the end of S3.

I think this episode also shows that MLP:FiM is insanely self-aware. The writers and producers know--as well as we do--that the program is stretching itself thin by going into a sixth season. Nowhere would this be more apparent than in the gaggle of one-trick-ponies that are the CMC, and it's refreshing to know that they chose Season Five to conclude their long-standing quest for cutie marks so that now they can be explored differently. This episode managed to be all about this while still maintaining immersed within the universe proper. That's admirable, and it was a far better execution than I expected. Also it had tons of cute gif bait to boot. That's one thing I like about the season so far. Plenty of gif bait.

I mean, it's not like they're gonna ruin their stride with a super obnoxious Spike episode, right?

...and you know what?

It wasn't half-bad.

Hell, it was actually pretty dayum good.

It wasn't perfect, of course. Fimfic's favorite dragon makes some very good points about how Rarity and Twilight didn't even need to be there. I mean... friggin' why? At its best, the fact that the ponies can magically teleport all around the Gauntlet of Fire without dying (even to the point that Spyro's girlfriend calls the plot device out) only serves to undermine the accomplishment Spike makes on his own in the first place (or the other dragons, for that matter). Sure, it's all a coincidental setup for Rarity to succumb to peril and for Spike to save her in front of Princess Whatsherscales, but that's kind of a weak mechanism, imo. I think Spike's been established as pretty well-learned and self-supportive at this point (despite the occasional episode that deevolves him back into a one-dimensional minnow), so why not have an episode where he stars all by his lonesome, utilizing the lessons that he's lived out with his friends? I mean the CMC have had episodes completely bereft of their Mane 6 mentors by now, so why not Spikeberg?

Also, holy Hell was the pacing of this episode fragmented to High Hell. You could put Big Show in the ring with Sabu and a fire hydrant, and still you'd come out with something way less awkward and stilted as the execution of "Gauntlet of Fire's" schizophrenic exposition.

Don't get me wrong, it was all interesting exposition... but yeesh. Call me a JJ Abramsphile, but I appreciate stories with forward movement and fluid plot progression (even though I rarely ever write them, f'naaaaaaaa). And for a cartoon show, this one tip-toed around a lot. Also, I can't say I'm the... biggest fan of this show's revelation of dragon culture. But that's just the fault of being a fanficcer who's far too attached to his own wyrdo headcanon. I must say, it's really cool to see the artists going hog-wild with multiple interpretations of dragons. I mean... compare the Froot Loop motley crew of reptilians from S6 with the boring re-dressed clipart of S1. Yes, I know that the dragons are all scaled smaller in this most recent episode so that they'll be captured in the same frame as Spike, but let's face it. The artists have come a long way, both in talent and in effort. And that's admirable and fun.

Another reason I appreciate this episode is because it's a flagrant sequel to the best Spike episode ever. And it's nice to know that--even now that S5 is over and done with--there's still plenty of dedication to continuity. Gives me hope for the rest of the S6, which--so far--I have yet to find lacking.

I also can't help but notice a certain... possible pattern here:

We've just been introduced to two dynamic characters, both emotionally and artistically, and all within the span of just five episodes. With seventeen non-finale episodes left in the season, I could imagine at least four of them introducing new characters, also with easily identifiable color schemes.

...could this be the beginning of a bridge into a Guardians of Harmony spinoff? With its own poignant cast of heterogeneous characters?

Just something to contemplate.

Behold... the true reason I've not finished The Trixiening. I'm too dayum distracted.

Applehorse human is too adorable for words

Thanks for the shoutout. I haven't watched the latest episode yet, but hell, if it's even somewhat decent as a Spike episode, I'm all over it.

I'm glad you enjoyed the new Spike episode, too. :ajsmug:

Thanks for the shoutout, m8.

I wonder if I have ever seen you at the parks and just not known it. I've lived in Central Florida my entire life and was practically born at WDW. (I was two weeks old when cast member preview for Animal Kingdom happened and my mom took me along I guess)

Disney is a huge part of my life, and it's always nice to see other people who have that same love, not that they're scarce.

After watching that episode, I have been listening to this song over and over again.

Anyway, yeah, two great designed character with their own color palette in relative span, I wouldn't be surprise if we got a new griffon or at least pegasus character.

These images remind me of two things.

Wizzard and Pinkie Luggage.

Ember and Guardian Spike.

Applejack knows only too well, theres too many pink legs. :applejackconfused:

...could this be the beginning of a bridge into a Guardians of Harmony spinoff? With its own poignant cast of heterogeneous characters?

No. Friggin. Way. :rainbowderp:

I want this so bad. I don't think it's happening, but I have never so badly wanted to be proven wrong.

Myyerehhhhh.

With you there.

As much as Twilight Sparklebutt is my absolute favorite, best horse (she was friggin adorkable in Gauntlet of Fire), having her and Rarara being present in Dragonland kinda...killed Spikes side of the story.

Really hoping he gets his own episode where he, y'know, isn't being followed around by pastel equines all the damn time.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders are growing up and changing, whether they like it or not.

It was a good episode.

Huh, this is the second month in a row you've mentioned that books 9 through 12 are going to be a lot shorter.

3882892 He thinks/hopes/prays that if he keeps saying it, it will come true.

3882892 he must be serious

If I remember correctly, the Crusaders were made by Lauren Faust considering the possibility of a spin-off for preschoolers.

...the dragons are all scaled...

Of course all dragons have scales. Dinosaurs want to trademark feathers now.

Huh, I really need to update that monthly shoutout message for you.

Spyro the Dragon was one of my favorite games during my childhood. I actually like the first more than the second or third. I can even remember the differences between the demo and the full game.

I didn't mind Rarity and Twilight's inclusion in Guantlet. It was silly and stupid and made me smile. I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm for Dragon Quest, that was the most forgettable episode of the series to me. My favorite Spike tale is Secret of My Excess, mostly for the very sweet ending. As for awkward, stilted exposition, I've had a general problem with that since the beginning of season four and it only seems to be getting worse. But I did enjoy both On Your Marks and Gauntlet of Fire, the former a bit more.

I have to say that Woo advice was a bit awkward for me as I totally gave up on my creative dream of making Youtube videos because all the copyright bullshit going on really took the wind out of my sails. Maybe I could have found a workaround, but I'm a lazy man who didn't wanna be part of a system that didn't want me.

Cheers, Skirts. Have a good . . . period of time until the next SotL.

Man. I need to stop skimming these posts. Missed a chance to be internet famous, at some point...
