Why I Write (And an Update) · 6:11am Aug 24th, 2012
So, I was just browsing my Tumblr feed like i sometimes do, and I came across a post about how someone was feeling bad for their lack of fame in their art that my friend replied to. He talked about how art in the community and how passion are more important than popularity and fame. So, I replied to it agreeing as well, and I talk a little about why it is I pour hours into making these stories that I make. If you want to read the full post go to my tumblr here: http://justaninnocentpony.tumblr.com/ and read the latest one (The one with the avatar of Dash crying). If you want to see my specific quote, here it is:
"This is the same reason why I still write and make wallpapers. Lots of people know me for my wallpapers on DA, and very few know me for my fictions on FiMfiction.net. I don’t spend HOURS, WAY more time then i do with making wallpapers into my writing and stories and plot making JUST to get on a popular website. I do it because writing is my passion. I don’t care if I’m remembered for it or something I make becomes the next My Little Dashie, if I can write my fic and have it put a smile on even one persons face like I can with my wallpapers, I’m content.
Get it through your heads people, art is NOT about popularity, it’s about making something you’re proud of and enjoy making. "

My writing is not about or NEVER has been about getting famous. That's why landing Deeper Than Friendship on EQD isn't at the top of my priority list.
You wanna know what it?
Making more stories
Also, that story I promised last week is coming, I promise. I just got caught up in that new TF2 update... Deja Vu anypony?
I have to agree with you, making stories and art is not about fame, (Though some might disagree) its about making people feel good, making them feel any emotion really, A story is about passion and if you write something because you want it to be popular, it usually lacks the flare of a good story/art.
Most good art/stories are made for the sole reason of the author/artist having fun doing it, its not about making money or becoming popular, the only true way to make people enjoy what they read, is to do it for fun, and honestly, not caring if your popular or not, if even just one person reads your story/views your art and it makes them feel good/or whatever you intended when you made it, that's an accomplishment in itself.
Out of personal experience in writing, if you try to make something just for popularity (I learned this lesson and I never want to go back to doing that) it often ends up bland, and frankly terrible. (Unless your a really good writer and can actually pull it off, which most people are not.)
People should not feel bad when their art/stories are not popular, because, even the smallest art/story, can inspire even just one person to open up to their own passions.
Justaninnocentpony, you are an inspiration, writing because you want to is a value that most people can't hold on to after having a popular story/art. Keep doing what your doing, you are truly a good person.
