    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Birthday Bios: Navy Stardust · 6:24pm Jan 6th, 2016

This lovely grandmother has been helping her daughter Violet Verses raise Bluejinx from the time he was five. Being his primary caretaker while his mother worked, Navy was always fascinating him with her tales of adventures she had on the high seas.

She was born in the city of Baltimare to kelp harvesters, and right off the bat, she was going to the harbor to gaze out at the ocean, wondering what was beyond the horizon. When she was old enough, she took up sailing, finding that she was a natural at it, and thus she earned her cutie mark.

She spent her days sailing and sailing, breathing in the salty sea air and going out further in order to see more. She has seen whales breech, dolphins dance, and shark fins cutting through the waves. While she did want to go out further and explore another land, she knew that she had to return home to her parents, especially since her father was a sickly stallion. She worked for years to afford his care, up until he died when she was in her early twenties. After her older brother took over the family business, Navy decided to go pursue her own dreams.

She got her chance to explore new places when she joined a shipping company and was made part of a crew on the ship know as The Celestial Tide. She started off with cleaning the deck and lookout duties, with a preference for the latter seeing as she always loved the view. The days tended to be a little long and boring, but those times in seeing whales and dolphins always brightened up her day.

However, that isn't to say that she didn't have her occasional adventures. Disregarding stops at ports in Trottingham, Manehattan, and other towns, she had also encountered wild storms that threatened to have the ship overturned, large whales that swam a little too close for comfort, and sea ponies that often sang to make the crew do stupid things and go in circles (unlike sirens, normal sea ponies don't feed off hate and conflict; they're just mischievous and playful), which Navy stopped by befriending some of the sea ponies and showing them her unicorn magic. However, she'd never forget the pirate encounter.

It was the pirate encounter that Navy ended up meeting her future husband. She had been captured by the pirates and thrown into the brig, meeting a poetic lawmaker from Manehattan named Red Sonnet. The two, starting a friendship almost immediately, plotted to take over the ship from the pirates, with Navy weaponizing her friendship with the sea ponies once she got to a window. With the singing in the background, the pirates became a little more open to suggestion from Red's eloquent speech. In the process, the pair were dumping the cannonballs overboard (away from the seaponies).

They managed to bump into The Celestial Tide, and the crew brought Red home. Saddened by having to part ways, Navy promised that she'd visit him on every return to Manehattan. And she kept well on that promise, and Red was happy to show her around the city.

It took some time before they realized they were in love, and they soon wed. Though Navy still sailed, even when she was pregnant, she was always happy to come back to her husband--and later on, their three foals: a son named Harbor Tide, and two daughters named Purple Prose and Violet Verses.

Red had introduced Navy to his birthplace, a small mining town known as Nickerlite. Though Navy was not fond of the dusty and dry town, her daughters found themselves enjoying the small town, and would later move there in adulthood and run Nickerlite's newspaper. Harbor, on the other hoof, preferred to stay near the ocean, becoming a marine biologist in his adulthood.

When Red died from illness, Navy retired from sailing out of grief. She appreciated visits from her children, and later on, her grandchildren--Harbor's four daughters, and Violet's only son, Bluejinx. Navy was not all too fond of Violet's husband, Jasper Horseshoe, due to him being a criminal at one point. However, when Jasper had died, Navy found herself missing the rascal. She was surprised when Violet came to live with her, due to not being able to handle Nickerlite and their awkward condolences while she was grieving both Jasper's death and a miscarriage.

Navy helped raise little Bluejinx, especially when Violet had to work custodial duties at a hotel. She was eager to hear about Bluejinx's days at school and was proud of him for overcoming his shyness--even though the only friend he brought to their house was Tomato Sandwich, who was just as wowed as the stories of Navy's past as Bluejinx was.

Even when Bluejinx's friendship with the other colts ended, Tomato was still around and visiting. She wondered why that happy colt turned sour, and worried that Bluejinx would end up the same way, like when he had jerk friends rubbing off on him when he was little. Fortunately, the most Bluejinx ended up allowing was a bit of a snarky side, and was still friendly.

Though she's still not fond of Nickerlite, she understood that Bluejinx wanted to get the know the place he was born better, and thus, he was allowed to work with Aunt Purple Prose there over the summer. She's also proud of him for earning a scholarship and going to college, and he often visits during the school year.

Of course, Navy has a goal to live long enough to meet her great-grandfoals. Though she has met a couple from her granddaughters, she's more or less wondering about the grandson she helped raised. Would Bluejinx end up meeting his future wife in Manehattan or Nickerlite? She often embarrasses Bluejinx whenever she brings it up.
