I really don't know why I hadn't thought of doing this before....

Browse pages now have a new ordering mode: Heat. You can access this from the browse drop down menu at the top left:

Or you can select it manually in the search pane on any browse page.

Basically it uses the same value as the popular list on the front page, so you can search for currently popular comedy stories for example.

I've also added pages to group page comments, folder comments and group threads too. It needed doing for ages.

Estimated words read is also back. But it's only visible to yourself.

"Words read" counter on user page is missing or I'm blind?

Anyway, yes, it is a great addition to the site :D

I'll admit, that wasn't the first thing that went through my head when I read the title. :trollestia:

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go think long and hard about where my life has gone. :facehoof:

    Sounds good to me.

On another note, it says I have a chapter unread, but I don't.

Not sure if it's just me, but the character portraits below stories don't search for stories with those characters anymore, just refreshes the page.

Hey, I actually don't have anything to say against anything here!

Except for the group threads. I got annoyed that my comment about making a new thread because the old one filled up was made useless. Eh, who cares. It's much better this way.

On a side note, any comments I add don't automatically show up like they used to. I have to refresh the page.

We've been over this at least ten times in the previous news post.

    Hey, uh..

Using character filters to exclude certain characters from the search results is no longer possible and this change seems to be quite intentional. Any word on that?

Could we also get the option to browse based on total views? I think it's interesting to look at at times, but right now you can only do it with the rather roundabout route of first clicking browse, then search, and then setting the filter there.

I also just noticed that there's the new FiMFic stuff in the browse section with news archives and banner archive. That's awesome. Unless I'm just unobservant and that's been there for the past few days.

    Alright. No problem.

Ain't workin'. If you pick say 'sad' and then go to 'top rated' the category goes away and it's as before.

And WHY can't clopfics be a category? Do they have to be on the one hand 'special' and in with the search modes, and on the other hand 'not a category' so we can't use the search modes with 'em?

    :applejackconfused:

On the bright side- hooray that you're looking into this at all! I have long wished the 'browse' thing did anything I consider useful, and what you SAY it does now is just right. It just ain't workin' for me :ajsleepy:

And it looks like the character spotlights are working fine!

From other reports here- this IS working for some ponies? As in, you can get a category in some of those flavors (perhaps with a tickmark by the menu item or something, is that a thing that's happening?)

I'm on Chrome and should really try this on Firefox to see if it's Chrome that's failing here...

You know what? I have nothing bad to say. Bro, I love you. Despite that little.....thing, this overshadows it for a good part. Thank you for thinking of this, I can't tell you how many times I want to find popular Sad or Dark without stumbling across a trollfic or some other. Hopefully, we can put our differences aside, yeah? You know what, this is almost completely able to erase any kind of doubts I've developed on these updates. Keep up more stuff like this, mate. :ajsmug:

Are you trying to click up at the top? You need to use the filer box to add multiple things together....the links in the browse menu are just filter shortcuts really.

To expand on Unahim's excellent point, on a more general level, can we PLEASE have an 'advanced search' link up in the menu?

Just a clone of the normal one, but WAY more accessible.

I think that with all the easier searching mechanics currently being implemented, it would be a shame if this got overlooked.

I like the new look, overall.  Keep up the good work! :pinkiehappy:

Actually it's been like that since the day after I did the edit user page stuff. It's just that the link always went to the crappy editor, and you had to go to your user page and click edit there to get to the "proper" one. So I just removed the old link.

maybe add the thread page selector at the top of the page as well.

So people don't have to scroll down to then select the last page and scroll down again

But what's the deal with the maximum number of comments per thread?

I seem to be able to go over the old limit of 200, but only if I try commenting twice...

EDIT: I also can't add a comment to the group's front page :twilightoops:

May I ask why the word read counter is only viewable to the person in question?

Seeing how many words people have read it a great way to determine whether they could offer solid advice and whether they're trolls (using this account only to spread hate and whatnot) or if they actually read stuff here. Also if the authors of certain stories are active on this site.

On behalf of we in the Lunaverse, who were burning through the old 200 post cap for group discussion threads on a near weekly basis, I would like to thank you for this new system.

That said, as best I can tell  click a large thread always links to the first page, requiring a second click to get to the most recent post.  Any chance of getting that fixed, or maybe just adding all the page links up front underneath every individual thread title like a more typical message board.

Not complaining, especially if any of that would be too hard to implement; just making suggestions in the hopes of seeing this site steadily become ever and increasingly more user friendly.

Hey, Knighty, really, thanks for the changes to the group pages thing. It makes life so much easier for me as an admin. However... I have had a few complaints from my group members (Not about the pages though, as they were as happy as I was about that). They have issue with a limit of 25 comments per page. Another thing they complain about is that every time they refresh, it resets back to the first page, so they have to scroll through the pages too. This is really inconvenient for them when they are in, say, an RP where they must refresh often.

My request and theirs' is that the number of comments per page be raised to 200. Perhaps 100 would work, though. Also, if at all possible, make it so that it doesn't reset to that first page every time they reset. If these things can't be changed, then that's fine, but I'm still grateful for the whole "Pages" thing.
