Don't Post Blarghs During a Dr. Pepper High · 2:56am Nov 20th, 2015

Hello, y'all.

Say... for no particular or specific reason...

Anyone willing to list the things that you think are so Trixie-ish about the Great and Powerful Trixie?

Again, for no particular reason.

The grand standing, attention grabbing, pure hamminess?

A boastful but fun personality, for starters. Probably has a lot of flashy spells she knows about, which can be interesting to think about how they'd help her outside of shows in my opinion. Also, Trixie is a cute pony, so that helps a lot as well.

[heavy breath-- heavy heart attack]

Im pretty sure I saw Suprise in a certain Disney CGI kids series that was shown in the last couple weeks.

She was stood on top of a pillar in a garden, along with a stoner hedgehog. For some reason I thought of Treehugger.

Shouldnt be too hard for Cedric to have a Great And Powerful Trixie Doll. Sorry, Action figure. :trollestia:

The illeism. Definitely the illeism.

Again, for no particular reason.

Riiiiiiight... :trixieshiftleft:

Narcissism and pretension.

Shippability with other magically gifted unicorns, preferably purple ones, because its adorable as fuck.

Enjoying being on stage

If Trixie became a Disney princess she would automatically be my favorite Disney princess. Just saying.

She makes authors want to write stories about her.

I'm glad to see that you've making your Dr. appointments again, but I thought you'd quit.

She takes her own bull so seriously. She almost fools herself. (serious answer ftw!)

Third-person, mang.

Confidence
A ham
Magic
Twilight
Travels
Can't teleport
Flashy
Weakness to flattery
Overconfident / brash
Braggart
Knows how to play a crowd
Wheels?
Pride

She doesn't seem to have much of a plan in canon. Kinda just shows up in Ponyville for some reason and can drop everything for revenge plots.

Allegedly she did attend Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. Don't know what came of it.

News travels fast about her failures for some reason.

Probably some level of lazy, since she didn't bother to really research get lies.

Very flawed based on canon, but seriously if I have to read another redemption fic. I like her flawed. I don't know what I find so endearing, but I guess it is the flaws when viewed in comparison to how she sees herself. Is she just delusional, or are we missing something?

Sethisto got to you. Didn't he?

Trixie is quite a generous being. She does generous acts like lending a Piano without wheels to Rarity. Not because she enjoyed watching the dainty Rarity pushing the heavy instrument from her house to the school. Bit because she is excessively generous.

Trixie certainly does not enjoy making favors that cause troubles, just because they amuse her.
---------------

In the Rainbow Rocks's book, it's mentioned that Trixie lends this piano to Rarity

Come to think of it. It appears a lot in this book. And everything she does, is to make others look bad or make her look better i the eyes of others.

Applejack.

Despite the revenge plots and the boastfulness, Trixie has a soft, somewhat vulnerable side that people can find relatable.

Feeling in a thinky mood. :yay: Gonna vomit a bunch of character analysis. Sorry for the mess :twilightsheepish:

...
I think it's important to keep in mind that -- despite her silliness -- Trixie is actually quite a competent magician. Both as a performer and as a wizzzard. It's her special talent, after all. And while she may not be very self-aware or subtle, she does seem to possess a cunning intellect which saw her single-hoofedly take over Ponyville (basically by cheating). I would expect that, for most ponies, she is quite an imposing character to deal with.

Trixie is also interesting in that we've not really seen her interacting in a meaningful way with anypony other than Twilight (which is probably why Twixie is appealling). Apparently she travels all alone, doing magic shows across Equestria? No mention of family, friends, enemies, role-models, goals, past or even what her outlook on life really is. While we only see these characters for twenty minutes every couple seasons, she is theoretically living this life 24/7. That either opens her up for a lot of headcannon 'fill-in-the-blank' type stuff, or a more in-depth analysis of the sort of pony who would choose/be forced to live such a lonely life.

But Trixie is primarily appealing as a comedic character. And this seems to stem largely from how over-the-top she is. Her speech patterns, her outfit, her perception of the world and the ponies around her -- all of it consistently abnormal and all of it played 100% deadpan. Either this is a very well-constructed mask she has made for herself, or she has a genuinely different way of dealing with the world to everypony else. This can be a weakness, yet it could also be a strength. And it makes her stand out in such a way that the audience can enjoy something they normally don't see, yet don't feel as if it's being put on display. She gets some slapstick comedy, butalso some very subtle comedy (throwaway "Trixie does not trust wheels").

A slight aside: what does Trixie enjoy about her actions? Does she like the feeling of living a 'narrative' of sorts, such that she deliberates engages with her audiences in order to prove herself in the face of their opposition? She makes a big deal of her magic duel with Twilight and revels in the revenge arc of such, even though she obviously could have just thrown her out and make the giant fishbulb shield in the first place. Trixie also agrees to a second duel entirely out of curiosity for Twilight's "wicked magic from the everfree forest", and again -- she doesn't simply steal the artifact off her, but rather waits to try and defeat it head on. Plus, check the evil-looking environmental changes Trixie makes to the town in Magic Duel (for no reason other than to enhance her narrative; likely a symptom of the Alicorn Amulet's influence, but only such that her natural instincts are amplified). Obviously Trixie just likes to show off, but I feel it extends to some degree to the way she lives her whole life? As if she's showing off to a crowd which isn't really there? Mmmp. Anyways.

Last-y little-y bit: Trixie's redemption. I find this interesting in that Trixie wasn't really redeemed. She had the nastiness taken away and was forced into a position where she had to abandon her revenge fantasies; and she even apologised -- indicating that she is capable of both regret and humility, something requiring a level of self-awareness that may be surpressed when she is "in the zone" of whatever actions she is taking. But after all of that... she's still just Trixie. Which indicates that she was never really a bad-guy to begin with -- a very interesting aspect of her character in a show which is sometimes rather "black & white" -- and more: that she still believes herself to be the protagonist of the story. She made a mistake, but now the "Great and Humble Trixie" returns stronger than ever before! That sorta thing.

Anyways, I find Trixie interesting because she seems highly incompetent, yet also manages to be very strong-willed and charismatic in a way that nopony else in the show has really aspired to. Gives her the potential to go places and accomplish things that the Mane 6 cannot, while nonetheless acting antagonistically -- being a lot more subject to temptations and whatnot that can make a story interesting. Plus, I love it when bad guys rise up and make something of themselves. It forces the characters around them to re-evaluate their opinions.

*koff* *koff* /rant :scootangel:

She wears a hat.

Sometimes intentionally!

Vulnerability. She's tsun-tsun as all get-out, but at the core of it all are insecurities. Her bravado is a means of deflection, shielding herself from criticisms, yet at the same time being her own ideal. She wants to be great and powerful, to be adored, to be popular and prestigious. Because she doesn't understand how to truly become that, acting that way is the next best thing. And more often than not, it works, as ponies stand in awe of her, eating up boast after boast and showering her in adoration.

And when she is unable to put her money where her mouth is? It all comes crushing down on her like a collapsing cavern.

I think Trixie is brave as all hell. She knows she's not really a great magician, is happy to bluster and magnify that all she can, but unlike say Rainbow Dash she doesn't have that core of self-doubt and insecurity. She KNOWS who she is. She might be scared of outside events but will tenaciously battle them anyway, whatever the odds, and just might win, especially if she has the help she doesn't expect to need…

By God, she IS a Disney Princess, isn't she? This is gonna be epic :raritywink:

A tsundere.
Oblivious of her own talent. Her cutie mark doesn't resemble arcane magic at all, it's more like a magic show.
A loner. I never see her hang around anypony (or anyone in EQG), even though she is a travelling magician. She even gets annoyed when Snips and Snail comes to her wagon.
Need to win at everything. I think this is on par with RD.
Not top of the shelf pretty, but can wear make up and dress. Usually, a pretty pony will have like 6 eyelashes (like Fluttershy or Twilight (mary sue) Sparkle). And she seldom to be naked.
A singing to everything Disney Princess. She even have her own song in EQG Rainbow Rocks. That song is pretty much how Trixie's brain works.
Not actually evil, just don't care about other people.
Charismatic. Can public speaking and gather crowds.
Can play guitar.

And I'm just gonna leave this here :trixieshiftleft: http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Trixie for no particular raisin:trixieshiftright:.

Ayy the Trixening is happening.

The way Trrixeh says her own name. pinecones peanut butter crackers.

Ah yes, her voice and accent when she speaks is what makes her, her.

How many Dr Peppers did you drink?

Confidence is attractive and can make moments of vulnerability even more endearing. If confidence is the rule and vulnerability the exception, I suppose what's happening during those moments is a case of "less is more."

I have no idea what purpose this serves. But it delivers the cute.

She's a showmare. Everything she does is exaggerated. She adds a kind of "flourish" to every action.

Note: Every personality in MLP (and all shows, really) is exaggerated. But Trixie turns it up a notch. She's a magician by trade in a world where magic is commonplace. She has to be really bold for ponies to notice her.

Some words to describe her:
Great
Powerful
Boastful
Obsessive
Prideful (past)
Greedy
Vengeful
Deceptive

Penitent (present)
Sheepish
Clumsily cute

Honestly we haven't seen much of her reformed self. Post-reformation Trixie had, what, a minute of screentime? Less? She seemed to be struggling to change her nature, but had the honest desire to. I hope when we see her again, she won't be The Great and Powerful Trixie or The Great and Apologetic Trixie. But I don't want her to be plain old Trixie either.

Now, Trixie the Great. That has potential.

Show wise, Trixie is almost a blank slate. She has a personality as others have pointed out here, but we really don't know much about her.

What motivates her? Why does she travel? Did she really go to Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns? Does she know anypony else in Equestria? Relatives? Just how strong is her magic (sans Alicorn Amulet)? What does her cutie mark really stand for?

These questions have spawned so many interpretations ranging from the most hateful of villains to anti-hero status. It's rather amazing just how much content we've gotten out of Trixie from just her two appearances.

If you consider the comics, she's mellowed out a little. Still boastful but more willing to put aside her worse habits in order to cooperate with others to get things done. She's also shown to be competent at her stage tricks and misdirection (something I wish we saw more of in the show).

Hope that helps!

I like to imagine that Trixie is an earth pony with a fake horn.
She's just a really good illusionist.

LAAAARGGEEEE HAAMMMM!

I like to think Trixie is so over-the-top because inside she's full of insecurities. She was never the best filly in her classes at CSGU, and combined with being from a rock farm meant she was bullied by the Canterlot foals there. Because of that, as a performer, she never can shake the feeling that everypony is just pretending to like and be amazed by her, and she's always got a little voice in her head saying "wait and see, they'll pretend they like you then turn it against you and use it to make fun of you when you let your guard down". That's why she's so abrasive and boastful, its a defence mechanism to stop her getting to close to anypony and risk getting hurt.

3555735 well, the mlp wiki does say she grew up on a rock farm

Probably a teeny self-deluded, but she's so fun I'm more than ready to overlook it.

Also, a very nice palette, which always helps.

Trixie just wants attention.

Don't have any? She'll get it anyways.

Trixie just needs some pony to come up to her and lay upon her a true kiss.

Just the theatrics in how she carries herself, as well as the colors of her coat, mane, and tail.
