Cadance of Cloudsdale (so far) now in Spanish!

Thanks to the generous SPANIARD KIWI, the text of Cadance of Cloudsdale so far is now in Spanish! Mr. Kiwi has done a tremendous amount of work translating many of my stories into Spanish, but this goes above and beyond. If you're curious, you may visit the project so far here at this

    Happy Cadance Day 2024!

Things feel a bit subdued today, due to the coincidence of Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday through a quirk of the liturgical calendar. It is somewhat difficult to juxtapose the splash of corporate-encouraged love with the festival that literally exists to remind us of our mortality. The pink of Valentine's washes against the purple of Lent. So I'm in a pensive mood, more so than usual on this

    Ciderfest is a wrap!

Just got home from PVCF and it was an amazing con experience! The minific-based ARG that circulated around the con the whole weekend was high-concept, and I was worried about engagement, but everyone seemed to really get into searching out the hard-to-find stories concealed around the convention hall (in places as obscure as "the desktop wallpaper on one of the monitors in the video game room,

"Beyond the Curtain" · 2:35pm Oct 31st, 2015

Despite passive cross-linking, I typically draw a fairly bright line between my Pony stuff and the stuff I write for "Skin Horse" and for my constitutional blog over at Scrivnarium.net. I recognize the majority of you guys are reading me for the cartoon horses and have limited interest in the rest, which is absolutely cool. Going to make an exception today, though, and post an active crosslink to a non-Pony story, because despite the fact that she's not ID'd by name for trademark reasons, October's entry contains a pretty familiar face. Check out, if you like, "Beyond the Curtain."

Dammit man, we just had an original fiction Writeoff round :(

Yeah, this was what I meant back when I said my idea was just ponies dressed up differently. I thought it would have been against the spirit of it. Besides, I need to put something out every calendar month, and since you guys are still in judging, it would have been a violation of anonymity to blog it.

Anonymity concern is fair.

I've already had to wade through two 8000-word ponyfics in this writeoff, though, so I'm not giving you a pass on the other point. :moustache:

That was an endearing read. Thanks for sharing!

Were this on my prelim slate at time of posting, it would be somewhere in the top four.

Brushie, brushie. Err... Flossie, Flossie?

Most enjoyable, though I do find myself wondering how legally-not-Dash found herself in the States. In any case, I may have a new blog to read. Because apparently all the other links there never convinced me. :derpytongue2:

I may have more to say later. But this:

It was the first time he had ever made a personal grooming decision out of raw spite.

Is pure gold.

(I'm an enormous fan of spite and of ludicrously petty revenge. You don't even know.)

Also too:

Lilting, feminine, aimlessly elegant, a bit Mid-Atlantic.

You forgot "fake" in there. (I am also all about people pointing out Rarity's obviously completely fake-ass accent.)

Aimlessly elegant is a good description for Rarity just as a whole, tho.

That was fun. I really should check in on the Scrivnarium more often, since I already read Skin Horse and follow you here,

Personally, I'm good for any quality writing, whether or not it involves pastel horses, multicultural zombies, swearing helicopters, or anything else cool. I'll give this a go.

"Beyond the Curtain" is a phrase that sounds very serious to me, so I came into this blog expecting a bunch of somber navel gazing about the nature of mortality or some such and such.

Instead, I got this bunch of light hearted fabulousness. Thank you for writing it.

All mid-Atlantic accents are intrinsically fake these days.

I always assumed the term "mid-Atlantic" was a joke, as it means that it sounds like you're from halfway between the East Coast and the UK - i.e. from the mid-Atlantic. Naturally, as there is nothing there, it means you're from nowhere at all.

The point of a mid-Atlantic accent is precisely to sound foreign wherever you go, the opposite of trying to align yourself to any given country, it's not an American trying to sound British.

The fact that it is a cultured accent was never hidden, though it might not be apparent to those who aren't in the know, but back when it was popular if you knew it's name you knew what it was.

Nice enjoyable story. Next up, proper nail clipping.

Oh, yeah, I didn't comment on the story, but it amused me. The first bit with the psychiatrist was wonderful.

That was a delightful read. I'm hard-pressed to pick my favorite moment, but I think the funniest part was the weight-lifting flying horse (whom I'm sure we all know and love) making the pounds vs. kilograms joke. :rainbowkiss:

3510977
It will never end.

3511121
Naturally, I must completely deny any suggestion that the pegasus in this story is Rainbow Dash. It's Rainbow Dash.

3511097
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

3510108
You're welcome! You're right that the title sounds a little too close to "Beyond the Veil" which would inevitably be hung on self-important eschatalogical claptrap or pompous SF, but I couldn't think of a better title!

3509992
Yeah, that's one of the best things about Rara. She puts on airs like humans put on clothing: right away in the morning, spending all day in them, and only going without when safely behind closed doors. My heavens that is horrible parallel structure right there.

3509818
Presumably she was on a previous mission to bother some random human!

3509798
"Darling, your flossing has become even more problematic than your conditioning. I'm going to bring in an expert."

3509796
Thanks! It wouldn't have been marked down further for having nothing to do with the prompt, you think?

3509781
The ponies never let you leave...

3510092
Thanks! Hope you enjoy!

3510089
I'd be honored!

Truly a delightful read!

3513632 I'm not sure if you're able to post it on FimFiction as well, but I'll give it a thumbs up if you do.

3514406
I'm still weighing my options, but I appreciate the offer!

In my opinion, this could definitely go on this site without modifications.

3515995
Thank you for weighing in!

Enjoyable. Enjoyed. And I know exactly what you mean about the ways in which this is personal.

3518012
Thank you! And yes, I thought you might.

I enjoyed that quite a bit; thanks for pointing it out to us!
