The two new lovers make up incresingly absurd excuses, building a rickety tower of white lies, trying to get just a few minutes for the two of them. Maximum hijinks ensue.

Main Characters: Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy
Genre: Dark, Sad, Slice of Life, Romance
The pegasi host another storm for Ponyville. All seems to be going well and according to plan as they conjure everything. Going about their ways to return home and stay dry, Rainbow decides to walk Fluttershy back to her cottage. However, as the lightning and thunder begin, the cyan pegasus is 2uick to offer her company for the remainder of the evening.
The shy little mare offers to make them some cocoa, and as they sit on the couch, they laugh, exchange stories of their favourite Roman-style gladiator fights back in Cloudsdale, and ultimately leading up to /that/ 2uestion that always gets brought up between ex-lovers.
"Why did you break up with me Rainbow Dash? Everything was going great... Perfect even. But after your accident, you just... changed. Was I just an experiment? Did you just want to see if you really liked mares or not? Or was I just some crisp carrot you wanted to take a bite of, huh?" Fluttershy, clearly hurt over the whole thing, after there having been dating for roughly a year as fillies.
The 2uestion, of course, strikes RD. She's not mad, but almost panicked at the fact that she's having to relive the fact. Wanting to avoid the topic, she tried to brush it off, but Fluttershy asserts that she deserves to know because of the impact it had on her life. She never took romance to any other colt or filly after that, fearful that they would all crush her too.
As they continue, Fluttershy starts to notice RD beginning to crack up, looking as if she's about to burst into tears at any moment and a lump forming in her throat as she chokes out words in an attempt to just avoid the topic. The yellow pegasus then asks if everything is okay. RD just nods silently avoiding eye contact. Pushing the cyan mare's head upwards and locking eyes, Fluttershy is beginning to cry too, upset seeing the only mare she's ever loved in this state. She whispers, "I'm sorry, Rainbow", of which they both break down.
Rainbow Dash lunges into Fluttershy, locking her hooves around her and crying against her neck. The shy pegasus is more surprised and holds her friend, nurturing her like a mother trying to calm a frightened foal. RD Starts telling Flusttershy she has nothing to be sorry for and apologizing for doing that to her, saying "I should've just did it anyway!!"
Flutter is confused by what she mean, prompting her to explain it since venting always helps. Rainbow agrees after she's calmed down a bit, and begins to retell her time as a filly.
She tells Fluttershy that RD's father, a Centurion (or Praetorian Guard, you can decide. Name: Nimbus Gerradae) that often fought in the arena, was not a traditional pegasi. Instead of believing in free love, he felt that love should only be for a stallion and a mare. No older fillies, no younger colts, and DEFINITELY no same-sex relations. Dash has only a fraction of her fathers 2uick-temper...
When he discovered their relationship, it was disgraceful and brought shame to /his/ family, of which the only way to restore his honour would be to have Dash properly punished. He takes her down to the ground for "flying lessons" (as she's still a clumsy flyer at this age) before he begins beats her severly, breaks several bones and a wing, and hits her in the head with a stone.
He then rushes her to the Cloudsdale hospital, having her treated accordingly and telling them that she lost control when gaining speed and fell from a great distance and crashed into a couple of trees and rocks when he was getting them a snack. He's, of course, putting on a show of emotions, of "How he should've been paying more attention" and "It's all his fault" and "He's so sorry" and things like that. When Dash is finally conscious, he warns her in private that if she ever tells anyone about it, or if she ever dates or even thinks of being with another mare, that he'll do it again, but much worse. The frightened filly agrees for fear of her own well-being. She's in the hospital for 2uite some time, and when finally released, the first thing she does is break up with Fluttershy, giving her no other reason than "We just need to."
Comes back from the flashback to them on the couch and Dash looks up into Fluttershy's teary eyes and says, "I'm still mostly blind in my left eye from when he threw that stone against my face... It caused permanent damage or something."
Fluttershy places her hoof against Dash's left cheek, a horrified look on her face as she releases all her sorrow, trying her best to let Dash know how sorry she is for asking to begin with and how she didn't know and things of the sort.
They both cry for a good while, Dash reassuring Flutter that it's not her fault--that Fluttershy did nothing wrong. Once they've calmed down, they stay on the couch holding eachother. Rainbow confesses how even though her father has been dead for 10 years, she never could shake the thought that she still had to obey him. "I still hear him sometimes... Yelling at me... Warning me that if I date another mare, he'll know and he'll keep his promise..."
Fluttershy calms her lover and they end up kissing after some time passes. They're both reconciled and ready to move embrace their love once again.
As it slowly falls later into the evening, they're comfortable and warm beneath a blanket in the 2uiet house. The storm has died down a lot by now, and they're both almost asleep.
Just as RD is drifting into sleep, she hears an uncanny thud, causing her eyes to dart open and she looks around the room, not hearing anything else and not seeing anyone.
Fluttershy asks her if everything is alright, to which the cyan athlete replies in a soft voice,
"Yeah. Everything's going to be just fine from now on."

Hmm, although I may eventually do this idea myself...I would say a Cherilee x Fluttershy awkward love story. Then again, this idea I have would take a long while before the 'mushy stuff' comes up, but I think would be cool!
Other ideas I think you could do very well:
A Pipsqueak adventure story, in which he goes to to prove he is worthy of the Princess of his desire (Luna). While nothing 'romantic' may come of this, I honestly feel Pip could pull off a 'Knight fighting for his Princess' story well. {In fact.....DON'T pick this. =p I'll try it one day!}
More Twist romance! I loved the last one with Silver Spoon....Perhaps her and Apple Bloom? I know they were friends in the show before Twist got her cutie mark...shame she forgot about AB so quickly.
Hmm, to be honest, a good, and not evil, Diamond Tiara and Apple Bloom story. I have read two others, and sadly she always turns out evil and manipulative. Romance or 'dirty', no matter.
(To appeal to my bi-side, but I know would be a hard sell to others) A gay Big Mac story? Tons of possible partners...although I could never pick one without going back to Breaburn. =/
Well, that's all for now. I hate coming up with ideas when I am trying to finish one story, and come up with ideas to another, plus come up with a 'silly cover' to said story! *sigh*

Umm...
Derpy Hooves x Spitfire? That seems like an unusual pairing. Like, Derpy wants to be a better flier & schtuff, and crashes into Spitfire while she is on a vacation/having time off, etc. Then Derpy asks for lessons or something, and Spitty's like "Alright!" and then she helps her with it and there is a romance, and such and such and such.
Just a general concept. That shipping would be awesome.
