I need some happy, fluffy one shots for reading on the beach. Know any I should read?
Shipping is fine, but no FlutterDash. AppleDash or TwiJack are favorites.
Character preference: AJ, Dash, Scoot, Apple Bloom, Twilight. Anything with all of the mane six or all of the CMC is fine too.
Let me know before 10 am EST on August 10th if you can, but if you suggest something after that that sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

Well... let me see...
One shots... seems like I hardly ever read those anymore. If you can handle jumping into a story that's not a serial, "Dames of the Tea Table 4- Bechdel Test 2- Eclectic Scootaloo" is funny. And features a Scootabelle ship.
Huh. Seriously, that's all I've got. The rest that comes to mind are serial stories.
I think The Importance of Being Earth Ponies sounds like something you'd enjoy.
Alright, alright, on to the real recommendations:
The Mare at the End of the World
Reading Rainbow
And uh... hrm. I don't seem to have many recommendations for happy, fluffy one shots. At all. They don't really seem to be my thing. Just about everything I read has several, if not many, chapters or isn't happy. Or they're clopfics. Not sure how you feel about clopfics on the beach.
All the AppleDash stories I could think of at the top of my head: (but I've bet you've read them c: )
-Mood Wings
TwiJack:
-Yours Truly
-A Delicate Balance (not a one shot but it's 11,000 words so far)
-Applejack's Run (only two chapters so far)
Wow, I need to remember more AppleDash one shots ;w;
And you like TwiJack too? Brohoof!
The King of Carrot Flowers
An under appreciated little gem. Despite the lulz-tastic concept it manages to be a cute little quiet piece.
The Mare At the End of the World
This story was pretty hilarious
She Was Mine
Multi-chapter, yes, but the chapters are so short it might as well be a one shot. The chapters vary a bit in quality, but the first chapter is basically the best TwiPie I have ever read.
The Legend of the Brony
Amusing and weird, but mostly amusing.
Paint the Night With Stars
A heartwarming little story about Rarity and Sweetie and Luna.
The Incredibly Dense Mind of Rainbow Dash
This story is side-splittingly amazing. I couldn't stop laughing. If there is one story you read from my list, make it this.
Sunny Skies All Day Long
If you want fluffy one shots, this one is pretty much the glorious crowned king of them all.
Shipping Goggles
Lulz-tastic.
Interference
Another fairly funny one shot about shipping. My favorites list seems to have a lot of these.
Love Story
This one is pure heartwarming joy. Simple and sweet.
~*~*~
If your don't mind stretching your horizons a little bit, I can recommend two other one shots. Neither of these are particularly "fluffy," but both are really good.
And the Temptress Came Unto Her
A story about Twilight and Nightmare Moon, which explores a lot of interesting space and honestly has the best depiction of Nightmare Moon as a separate character from Luna in the fandom, hands down.
Dictated, Not Read
A poignant little story. I highly recommend it.
~*~*~
Alright, that's all. I hope you enjoy all of those. Tell me what you think of them.
Alright, one more:
Shipping Sickness
There. Have fun.
Thweet Geniuth is very well-done, very cute, and just-about unheard of, because its author won't submit to EqD and hasn't posted anything on fimfiction. It's multi-chapter, but each chapter is 1000-2000 words.
Ditto the above on Shipping Goggles, Sunny Skies, Dense Rainbow Dash.
A Selection of Sappy, Sweet, and Sometimes Somber Short Stories and Snapshots: Shipping stories featuring Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie.
The Good Ship Lifestyle is cute.
And, of course, every story written by Skywriter.
My Roommate is a Vampire (Octascratch, which might be my favorite ship), Oh To Be Old Again, and Do Not Serve These Ponies are not one-shots, but I wouldn't hold that against them. You can take them one chapter at a time and still enjoy them.
What do you have against Flutterdash? I don't think it works very well, but I expect you might have a more thought-out response.

Re: FlutterDash - normally I just say that I don't really know, I just don't like it. But I actually was thinking a lot about shipping the other day, so this time I can give a real thought out answer to that.
First, I'm not a big believer in opposites attract. I think that most relationship have some amount of opposition, but I think there has to be something at the core, and I'm not talking about "love." A shared outlook on life, or a shared passion, or a shared dedication to something have to be there to keep love strong. There has to be someplace where two (or more) partners meet and build from. Compromise is always important, but there has to be a part of the relationship where neither party has to compromise.
So ships I like are AppleDash (where they share interests, as well as an attitude of confronting issues with strength and courage,) ScootaDash (where they share a passion for flying and a playful attitude,) TwiDash (a passion and drive in their respective fields,) TwiJack (common sense and stability,) FlutterMac (gentleness and a low key approach to life,) and RariShy (a romantic outlook and shared interest in fashion.)
Most other ships fall somewhere in the "I don't really have an opinion" category. RariJack and TwiPie are low on my list of ships, but I don't have the immediate hatred of them that I have for FlutterDash.
That's because not only do I think FlutterDash wouldn't work, I think it would actually be a destructive, unhealthy relationship. Dash and Fluttershy have completely different outlooks, enjoy completely different things, and have completely different goals, but more importantly they can't be honest with each other. Fluttershy has trouble being openly honest with anypony due to her hatred of confrontation, and Fluttershy is the one pony with whom Dash will avoid confrontation, or at least hate herself for confronting. So a FlutterDash relationship is one where they can never let themselves have a fight, or talk honestly about their problems if there's a risk of a fight. At least in RariJack and TwiPie when one or both of them gets tired of compromise they'll be sure to let each other know it. A FlutterDash relationship could go on for a long time with one of them feeling like they have to keep giving in and not being willing to say anything.
This is not to say that any of those relationship, even ones I like, would be True Wuv. I don't really believe in True Wuv, but most other ships seem workable to me, at least for a while. Any ponies can fall in love, but I need more than that to root for a relationship.
(Edit to add: One could very well call this the Gone With the Wind approach to shipping, since it's more or less the point of that esteemed romance novel.)

Insightful. This should be a blog post of its own. It should be linked to from the "Submit a story" button, with a note saying "You must read this post before submitting a shipping."
So you'd be okay with FlutterDash where the relationship falls apart for the reasons given?
Any and all Flutterdash would be perfect for your rec

THIS STORY IS PRACTICALLY PERFECT! Thank you for pointing it out!
