Season Eight Episode Reviews: Molt Down

This week is a Spike episode? What a re-”molt”-ing development this is!

Let's look at “Molt Down,” the episode that will surely be perfectly normal and have no long-lasting repercussions on a character's appearance.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Break Up Break Down

I dread going into this week's episode. For today, we discuss matters of the heart. Romance, love, heartbreak, and all that rot. Which means we run right into the most loathsome of all fandom constructs, the kind of thing that destroys friendships and leaves the most brilliant of minds curled up helplessly in a corner, foaming from the mouth:

    SHIPPING.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Non-Compete Clause

We've had a string of good episodes the last few weeks. Whether it be shapeshifting seaponies, an actual Celestia episode, or discovering Starlight's dark phase, we've had lots of fun and plenty of laughs.

Today's episode is about Applejack and Rainbow Dash competing.

    The good times are over.

Season Eight Episode Reviews: The Parent Map

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone who cares about that! What better way to spend the day than watching a cartoon about horses dealing with their mommy/daddy issues? Well, tough, because that's what we're doing. This is “The Parent Map.”

Season Eight Episode Reviews: Horse Play

So hey, it's a new episode. Surely nothing to be excited about. Just another standard episode of a cartoon pony show.

    Only it's a CELESTIA EPISODE!

Prepare for extra spicy biased scoring as we look at Best Princess' newest episode, “Horse Play!”

Me writing... · 9:32pm Oct 25th, 2015

Me: Yay, I'm writing. And I've got the best idea...

Universe: Somebody already did it.

Me: Huh?

Universe: Yeah, there's, like, a fic a day uploaded with that same concept.

Me: Oh. Well, I can do something different with it and...

Universe: No, because every possible angle has been covered.

Me: Well...shoot. Still, I can do the best job I can and make it something people will enjoy...

Universe: You can't. Everyone that's done this is a better writer than you. Except for that one guy, maybe, but the vast majority are smarter, more clever, and better at telling a story than you ever will be.

And that's when I shut down and stop writing, everyone calls me a liar and cheat for not updating anymore, and I make idiotic self-pitying blog posts in script format. But on the plus side, it's Halloween, so candy.

Excuse me for a second...

*Striker take the universe by the lapel and punches it several times before kicking it where the sun don't shine. He then shoves the universe through a wall*

I feel your pain.:ajsleepy:

But hey, candy.

(And, for what it's worth, you've got stories which I love, and I am jealous of your blog posts. So that's somethin')

yeah i kinda know the feel
i wanted to write a fic about rarity getting stressed out about halloween, but i can't write anything without the plot being the exact same as that one "art of the dress" episode

Yes, candy, keep everything in perspective.

Damn, someone really needs a hug....

...

*Comment hug*

I do have a similar problem. Not writing. But it is the same problem.

I second this. *comment hug*

IAH, You're a great writer and I hope you can find inspiration again. Now go out and eat some candy, buddy. You deserve it.

Me: Well...shoot. Still, I can do the best job I can and make it something people will enjoy...

Yeeees, this, this is true. The universe lies. :raritydespair:

Now do that to Comcast.

I've seen the front pages. If your idea has *anything* to do with a Marble and Big Mac ship, or by some miracle plans to actually include Limestone Pie in it, then you're already ahead of the game as you can't possibly do worst than what's out now.

*punches Universe*

DO IT FILLY!

Write the hell out of that idea. Show those uncreative slackers how it's done!

Just remember, the universe just wants to steal your ideas and sell them to someone else. Don't let it talk you out of doing your own thing!

I don't mean to nitpick here, but you wrote your blog in dialog format, not script. :scootangel:

Ah, just write and don't worry about it. That's what I do.

write for you! and for us and remember we just like to see what you hand out

personal belief of mine: cliche/predictable ≠ bad:: good ≠ original... in that I mean a good story is more than plot, it's the subtle differences in synonyms used to capture exactly a sentiment and not a step more, it's taking an idea and running with it in some direction. we may all run the same race, but our footfalls tell of different journeys.

Wait, who's calling you a liar?

Wanting to write something, but knowing it's been done.
Done from death, through undeath, and unto oblivion. Twice.
Yea, I know that feeling.

You definitely can try to write it and just do your best. That's what I favour.
And I don't know who you're comparing yourself to, but you're a better writer than you seem to give yourself credit for. Plus, you can always improve. I would never agree that someone else is better "than you ever will be."

And then I find that it's often personal investment as much as writing skill that makes something great. When you really want to write something, don't let "it's been done" stop you.
