Little Sunny Chapter One follow-up · 1:58am Oct 10th, 2015
Hello, all you folks out there. Yes, it is I, InsertAuthorHere, and I have returned...sort of.
So, the first new big story I start since Waning Moon blew up in my face is yet another age regression story, only now it's about that character I keep writing about, Sunset Shimmer. Remember when I was all about Celestia and Luna and Twilight? Those were good days. But enough reminiscing, let's get to why this story exists.
Basically, the idea entered my brain, and I couldn't get it out. I had been working on another Sunset Shimmer fic, which would have been one of the many "Sunset is homesick" ones, but put it on hold when I heard that said plot was going to be in the third film. (It ended up being cut, but that's another story, and frankly, I think it's both a loss and an improvement for a couple of reasons.)
And then I just...got the idea to do another My Little Alicorn-styled story, but with Sunset Shimmer as the victim protagonist. Work started on it before Friendship Games aired, but there were quite a few changes made afterwards to incorporate SciTwi earlier in the story than originally intended. Since she's basically the secondary protagonist, and it gave me more time to try and establish a little bit of their relationship prior to the de-aging, I think it was to the story's benefit. Also, the machine was originally Sunset's creation; with Twilight now a fixture at the start, it was easier to explain and made more sense to have her be the monstrosity's creator.
Of course, all of this begs one question: why am I writing this? This is the fourth story I've done based around this concept. Well, there's a couple of reasons:
1. The change in setting helps to establish a bit of a different tone. Things are certainly not going to be grimdark or the like (no mutilations, I promise), but despite the jokes and gags, there is kind of one major difference between the human world and Equestria: until recently, the former had no magic. Nobody has convenient counterspells or quick-fix solutions, and the way magic works is different than how it does in Equestria. So now you have a friend who's been zapped into prepubescence, and you have no idea where to even start fixing her. (Even Twilight in MLA knew what magic was and had leads to work on.)
2. Nobody's done it. (This is also why I have no cover art; it's really hard to find a picture of a child Sunset Shimmer that isn't probably illegal or being used for Fractured Sunlight, which you should all read because it is just that awesome.)
3. It's just really fun.
4. I've hit rock bottom and started digging even deeper, so I need to write to get my mind off of...bad thoughts.
There are other reasons, but I shall not be getting into them now for fear of spoilers. (Save for the person I've spoiled them to already.)
I have some good stuff planned, and I am writing something every day. Doesn't matter if it's fifty words or a thousand, but something is going down every day, and I will get this story done. In the words of the worst of Hasbro's 80s villains, "This I command."
(P.S. Don't eat the Halloween Burger from Burger King. The rumors are true. )
Thank you very much for keeping on. I really appreciate how hard you try to work, even when everything near doesn't want to. It's a lot more than a lot of other people manage.
Oh, and thanks for making me read Fractured Sunlight. I didn't really want to sleep anyway.
Well, I never got bored of the "de-aging" plot, so eagerly looking forward to more.
I swear I am reading it, it's just been such a busy last couple of months.
