Personality: Cynical, jaded, unimaginative, assertive, energetic, very driven at work and rather wild off the job.

History: Pepper Step started working in the spice trade under her aunt starting summers in 1492 at age 14, and full-time after completing secondary school starting in 1496 at age 18. She survives the Shadow Wars and becomes quite successful and wealthy due to her hard-working nature. She has problems getting along with other Ponies outside of business relationships, however.

Interesting how easy it is to give incidental characters in this setting a past and future.
Huh. Certainly an interesting interpretation. I had her pegged as a restaurant critic, able to pick out the hot new culinary trends, much as Trenderhoof's argyle mark represents his ability to detect emerging patterns in the social fabric. (Thank goodness for Cheerilee's deeply symbolic mark!)

Well, I figured that she had to be involved with pepper or spices one way or another. I could have gone for a more metaphorical interpretation -- that she was just "hot" and "spicy" -- and I did a little bit. But that seems kind of silly and shallow for a destiny. By contrast, Cheerilee's is deep: she encourages young minds and characters to flower.
Food critic, or cook, would also make sense. Indeed, my Pepper Step is probably both, as avocations. It's unlikely that anypony would be as committed to the spice trade as she is without liking spices in general, both eating and using them.
