No new chapter this week, and it's for technical reasons.

Deviant Art keeps moving around the image servers (to prevent hotlinking or for some other reason) and so as a result, I need to move all of my images over to my webserver and rebuild the links (that's important, as some images are vital for the story, like letters.) Because I have so much stuff going on, it's probably going to take the better part of the week.

So....

1. Sorry for the wait; I know several of you hate waiting on cliffhangers.
2. If you see any broken images this week, that's probably why. If you see them after the week is gone, let me know.

Thanks for your understanding.

Uh oh, that means some images in my own story might not be working. I'll have to look into that

yay DA being a butt.

This is... well, this is bad, no two ways about it.

See, this is just exactly why I use a picture/photo-hosting website like PhotoBucket (and more recently, Flickr). I know that I can rely on the links being good and reliable.

As to no new chapter this week, you just get what needs doing done and we'll be here when you get everything all lined out again, Shin. This story is well worth waiting for.

Honestly, though, what the heck is it with some sites and hotlinking, anyway?!

So we could delay it until next June if we so wished?:trollestia:

It's my fault. I knew I should have done it on my webserver, but i got lazy. Won't make that same mistake again.

Blue, am I gonna hafta sic the demon Twilight from the new Equestria Girls movie on you?:ajbemused:

3425751 Hey, we all flub up every now and again you know. It happens.

But now you know the problem and can remedy it.

Consider it a learning experience.:raritywink:

But throwing a demon on me would only delay the project more:trollestia:

In all seriousness, though, with regards to your original question about hot-linking: websites generally don't like having assets on their website or websites being hosted on entirely different internet pages - unless they're permitted according to the situation - as hotlinked images on a page would then send a request signal to the origin to retrieve the image file(s) every single time a user loaded up the other page.

Generally, this will cause the actual host page of the hotlinked image to suffer gradual build-up of resource and especially bandwidth loss from hotlinked images essentially poking holes into the original host pages, slowing the host pages down as resources are strained between the hotlinked images and the original site itself. The one exception, of course, is photo hosting sites (barring entire personal servers that can be used for the same purpose) which exist only to host hotlinked photos and can tank massive bandwidth drain.

However, it's odd that DA suddenly started preventing hotlinking, since generally it also is mainly an image hosting website with a few more bells and whistles.
