Long story short: SHO FAWHKING BEEZEE.
Sorry, all. I've been really, REALLY busy for the past couple of months. First a change of command, then a big upcoming exercise, and now I'm about three weeks from being OUT OF KOREA.
As soon as I get all this stuff done, I've got lots of writing on the to-do list. So many stories backed up in my notes, waiting for me to get to them. Maybe I'll be able to knock something out on the plane ride back to the states. Yay ungodly long plane rides.
For your awareness, here are a few stories coming down the pike eventually include (in no particular order and at varying states of conceptualization / outlining / actual writing). Note that inclusion on this list does NOT mean I'm guaranteeing I'll actually write it rather than scrap the idea as unworkable or not as good as I thought.
1.) FINISHING Old vs New. Frigging finally. Two chapters and an epilogue to go. The delay actually served this one well; I think I've come up with a few things the ending previously lacked.
2.) Story featuring Gilda & Cheerilee in Canterlot. No, it isn't a shipping story, although I did get the idea from someone saying, "Gilda and Cheerilee: the nonexistent ship!" in one of 7Nights' streams once.
3.) A story featuring Trixie as the victim of a terrible curse-- sort of Drag Me to Hell with ponies.
4.) 'What if' story with Rarity growing up in a VERY different environment and an examination of how this does and does not change her character
5.) Sequel to My Little Person. I have the ending and the beginning already figured out, now I just have to get Lyle, Lyra, etc through the middle. Derp.
6.) Sequel to Strange Bedfellows. Er, maybe. Still mulling it. I've got about a chapter knocked out on a whim but it needs more thought.
7.) Ayn Rand-ish story about how human supremacists are totally right and ponies are misguided and no better than humanity-- worse, in fact. Fun stuff.
8.) Cutie Mark Crusaders in college (College Major Crusaders bachelor degrees and good paying jobs YAY!). I'm sure this will go well (it won't).
9.) Sequel to Whip and Wi-- just kidding. I will not be writing a sequel to Whip and Wing.
...aaand thats' not even a comprehensive list; it's just the first ones off the top of my head. Unfortunately it's much easier to come up with ideas and to write them down than actually to write the entire story.
In any event I have a lot of writing to do. -_-

Glad to hear you're coming back! Now, I realize youve got a certain degree of ambivalence regarding a follow-up to Strange Bedfellows, but the mental image of our intrepid Texan standing under a farmhouse window at Sweet Apple Acres, holding up a radio a la John Cusack in Say Anything, is just too good to leave on the table. Granted, he'd probably be blasting Big and Rich rather than Peter Gabriel, but that just makes it funnier.

I don't have the faintest idea where I could take it--aside from the Ponyville Hospital having to be closed for renovations and the nurses blackmailing/guilting Vigilance into housing Screw Loose while the construction is being completed. But Vig has already built something of a rapport / understanding with Screwy, even though not at the level of "she lives in the same house as you." I suppose he could end up being inspired to investigate and find her origin / try to cure her, but he's a royal guard now, not Equestria's Greatest Detective.
Really it would just be more of the same, and so would not make a satisfying sequel.
