Re: Steven Universe · 7:50pm Aug 15th, 2015
I've heard a lot of buzz about this show, but I haven't really looked into it, mostly because it didn't seem like the sort of thing that would interest me. However, after I saw this, I must admit that my interest has been piqued:
Steven universe much like adventure time are kinda slow to get going in the plot/lore department but once they get going it's almost instantly hooking for me.
3321978 yeah it starts out slow but really starts to pick up around halfway through the first season.
It's like Adventure Time with a bit less weirdness and a bit more heart.
It's very much focused around the characters themselves and their own issues. And while most episodes focus on Steven and his personal growth as a gem, there are also lots of very deep moments for the other gems and a few of the supporting cast.
It does take some time for everything to settle from all the initial world-building, but once the major points are established it really starts to become more mature in it's approach to the world and it's problems. It even has a 3-parter when things get serious near the end of season 1 (The Return, Jail Break, Full Disclosure)
Lastly, it has lots of songs, similar to FiM, which work really well for when they show up, and are fairly catchy and enjoyable to listen to.
'Let Me Drive My Van Into Your Heart' was stuck in my head for days.
SU is really wonderful.
It can have the best storyline in the world, but unfortunately the art style is so awful that I just can't force myself to watch it even for a minute. Same with Adventure Time. If John Cena didn't save me, I would have stopped watching this clip halfway.
tl;dr: THANK YOU JOHN CENA!
I was like "oh I've seen the new theme song a million times but let's watch it again for good measure to understand why Kwakerjak likes it...
...
Damn it, Kwakerjak."
Why is John Cena everywheeeeeeere?
3322453 - Because a radio show's prank call went viral and became a meme.

I had that reaction with Transformers: Animated at first. That and finding myself rejecting Optimus Noob outright at the start. I forced myself to give it a second chance.
It's now possibly my favorite Transformers series. Up there with Beast Wars anyway.
Steven Universe is amazing. It starts a bit slow, but by the end of Season 1 it's become an epic space opera full of heartbreakingly well-realized characters.
3322372 The first couple of episodes the art is not great; once you get to episode 20, it improves a lot. They start using the budget more effectively. Watch the first Steven Bomb for examples (Jail Break in particular has excellent cinematography).
Steven Universe: My approximate reactions.
First few episodes: "Yeah, this is pretty neat. And the animation isn't bad."
Next few episodes: "Okay this is really neat. Nice worldbuilding going on in the background, the jokes are spot on, Love it already. And the animation is improving as well."
Plot starts happening: "Wait, the world building is in the foreground now? And why are there feels everywhere? And how did I never notice those details, and that was some really nice foreshadowing."
End of season one: "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH."
Season Two and beyond: "Yes."
Probably my favorite show right now, that and Gravity Falls are just cartoon gold.
Steven universe is excellent.
Just stay out of the fandom till you've watched at least twenty four episodes or so, people drop spoilers everywhere.
3322969 Just do what I did and consume all of the available episodes in a single weekend.
...what's with Garnet smiling?
3323681 Lesbian happiness starts happening in season two.
3322639 This is approximately completely accurate and yes
