Already I have a fiction idea in twenty seconds.

P.S TAG! You're it. (Random)

Nice to see Cadence and Luna getting speaking time! :yay: :pinkiehappy:

that's adorable

Hey, look, um, Knighty? I know this has nothing to do with anything here, but there's been this guy going around bullying everyone he meets and thinking he's better than everyone else. Because of this, many people I've met have had their self-esteem lowered so much that they feel like killing themselves. This has to stop. Could you please, for the sake of everyone, do something about it?

http://www.fimfiction.net/user/Rad+Chad

Ok is twilight the only Princess they go to?

They can't all be slice of life I guess.

Leonardo Da Vinci pony with a Mona Lisa cutie mark! :rainbowkiss::pinkiehappy:

Spike has bent set up for disaster. Cadence has a lot of time.

OF COURSE WHAT ARE THE ODDS. Disaster struck.

Poor Dragon.

Idiot ball got invited to the summit as well.

3165612 That annoyed me. But since she's the "Princess of Friendship" they come to her with problems? :ajbemused: What good would the Princesses of Sun, Moon, or Love be?

I love how Fancy Pants is getting speaking roles! :pinkiehappy:

It's official, they are going to destroy the good image that Spike had. Get ready guys and gals, we're about to witness the death of a dragon...

So this episode confirms that:

1) As a teenager, Spike doesn't really know how society works.
2) Politicians are dumb.
3) As a teenager, Spike's a bit egotistical.

In other news, water's wet and fire's hot.

Thus the invention of glued was created that day.

At least things...seemed to work out...love the last sneeze though.

Meh... today's episode felt weak and contrived.
Who the hell is it that writes these Spike episodes?

Well then... that was painful and boring.

Hey look at that, a theme of no one taking Spike seriously, and Spike feeling bad as a result. What's the conclusion to that part of the story? That it's reasonable he shouldn't be taken seriously.

Good job, episode, for canonizing the attitude that Spike doesn't deserve respect.

3165646

After 'spike at your service' this is about what I expect from spike eps.

In short his image died a while ago.:twilightsheepish:

3165664

Good job, episode, for canonizing the attitude that Spike doesn't deserve respect.

Well let's be fair, he is technically a teenager.

I think we can all agree Spike learned his lesson.

22 minutes of Twilight sleeping would be more entertaining than today's episode.

3165672 Every time someone pieces up respect for his character image, the writers may knock it over like that tower statue.

Sigh... I suppose it makes sense that the best episode ever would be followed by the worst episode ever. I swear, it's like "quality" is budgeted.

Just about everything in this episode was dumb, from the ridiculous mistakes Spike made to how easily the whole thing was resolved, to the over-reactions on everyone's part. Seriously, did Spike really think that a songbird on a distant spire would wake Twilight up? Also does Spike have to take everything so literally? And didn't we get enough of Spike's self serving ego in... just about every other Spike episode, especially Just for Sidekicks? Does Spike not learn his lesson ever? More importantly - were the MLP writers on strike for this one? Did they hire a substitute from the G2 writing staff or something? *sigh*

3165673
He's not a teenager, he's a kid.

But when was the last time that Scootaloo, Apple Bloom, or Sweetie Belle had a problem that was essentially "people don't respect you, and you don't deserve it." I guess For Whom The Sweetie Belle Tolls, when it was shown that Sweetie's jealousy over Rarity's was a bad attitude to have?

Except that in that episode it's shown that Rarity was explicitly trying to build Sweetie Belle up, and it was just going badly, rather than the fact that Sweetie probably doesn't deserve to be told she's any good.

Well, I think my biggest gripe with this episode is how long it took to get to the main plot (Spike abusing his power), and how it ended on a terrible cliffhanger. I honestly think that if this episode had been modified to just be Spike and Cadence hanging out, it would've been great.

As it is, it is rather meh. It takes too long to actually have anything of importance happen. The buildup was too long, and the climax was not worth the wait.

It's official. The princesses are the laziest ponies I have ever seen ever. Not ONCE do they offer any help at all. Well, Cadence does, but nopony seems to go to HER or any of the other princesses for that matter. And why the Hell is everyone just ignoring Spike. Shouldn't these ponies know about the dragon who saved the Equestria Games!? Did everypony get amnesia or something? And what's with Fancy Pants? Normally, he's a well mannered and level headed pony. In this episode, he's more demanding and rather rude than a gentlecolt. Also, where the Hell are Twilight's friends? You think they'd be around to help out, but nope. Also, in what mind does anypony think of planting trees that make a dragon sneeze? It can't be for looks since they don't look all that great.

Everypony in this episode is either an idiot, lazy, or both. It does redeem itself somewhat at the end, but that's no excuse for this. It's just stupid. Really, really, REALLY stupid.

And another terrible, forgettable Spike episode has happened.

Just once I'd love to see Spike get a good episode...I mean, there was Power Ponies, and that proved it CAN happen, but...

Pretty much the only good things to come out of this ep: Cute Twilight yawn, book pillow, "Put the hay in the apple and eat the candle"

Episodes like this are why Spike centric episodes are usually blah. It's also a bit contrived that the only princess anypony went to was Twilight, and the fact that Spike couldn't have pointed this out. Highlight of the episode was Twilight's yawns, because they were cute.

3165702
You're assuming that the other princesses weren't also incredibly busy.

Okay so quickly this is what I thought of the episode. Not the best Spike Episode, that is still Inspiration Manifestation, however I don't think it was bad I think it was meh, with a great ending. Honestly, I like the ending a lot. Even it was a little silly it was sweet

However, Has anyone else noticed how much of the Equestrian Royals, sans Twilight since she's main character, we're seeing this season. We're seeing them a lot this season. Now I don't mind, because the Equestrian Royals are in my top 5 favorite characters. It just seems a little odd that we're getting them in every other episode.

3165689 "some random dragon."

Being the crusaders in little old Ponyville doesn't call for above average respect, but being next to a princess and almost her younger brother should give something.

Quick point- Crystal empire respect vs Canterlot respect.

At least the others except Spike were pretty nice. Fargo pone, Fluffly Clouds, and Cadance are my favs, especially that crystal magic.

Does anyone here have a link to the episode? I still need to see it.

Great episode that everyone is gonna shit on because it was a Spike lead.

Nothing else needs to be said. :3

you're all the worst

Best thing about the episode was the Marge Gunderson pony.

i.imgur.com/VXGbFmY.jpg
blogs.walkerart.org/filmvideo/files/2012/09/Fargo.jpg

Even her cutie mark was a cup of coffee.

She was 7 months pregnant during the entire episode.

Also, Whinnyapolis is canon now.

3165689
Ponyville Confidential and Hearts and Hooves Day were all about the CMC royally screwing up and trying to fix it afterwards, and they were pretty big screw-ups in Stare Master and The Show Stoppers, too.

They're not about respect persay, but they don't have jobs or duties other than school, and they don't desire respect, unlike Spike.

3165708 You're assuming they were. We're not shown much of any of them except Cadance, who seemed to have time to badger Spike and wander about the city, and who also informed him that Twilight wasn't to be disturbed.

Well, for a Spike eppie, it was still fun and enjoyable

3165722
Totally agree. She was adorable.

3165726
And so was Twilight Time about the CMC screwing up.

And many Spike episodes had him screwing up too.

The thing is... it's not about Spike screwing up. That was a given knowing the synopsis of the episode, it's that they included this theme of "Spike is disrespected by most ponies" and then portrayed it as a reasonable way to think, because Spike's a screwup anyway.

When I can accurately predict the entirety of the episode from the precredits...sigh.

Overall, I'd say it was a decent episode as a standalone, but given its placement in the series, it's retreading what by now is over-covered ground, and when I start noticing and getting tired of these patterns (I'm usually very forgiving), you know it's really pushing the boundary of acceptable restatement. I was seriously wanting to pause a livestream so I could tell Spike what he should be doing; y'know, decisions that actually made logical sense.

3165728
I'm not assuming they were, but rather assuming that it's possible that they were. It's called benefit of the doubt. Twilight was the one organizing the event, so it makes sense that most of the things relating to organization would go to her, the one in charge, but we don't know what all the other princesses were fielding. Cadance showing a little spare time to check on Spike does not mean she's not very busy.

It's like thinking Celestia never does anything regarding laws, complaints, or other things regarding ruling a nation just because she's never shown doing them on screen.

What would a good Season 5 Spike episode look like?

3165717
But then the princesses putting that responsibility on a pre-teen or teen makes THEM the massive idiots, instead. No one in their right mind would give a 13 year old duties for organizing a national event, even temporarily.

3165688

Did they hire a substitute from the G2 writing staff or something?

Funny, because there was no G2 writing staff, that was the only Gen without a show.

3165768
something interesting and not the same spike formula again. in short not Princess spike

Okay, more on a different bent...

Did anyone else find it weird that when Spike took self-centered actions, there were no negative consequences, but when Spike did things that were well intentioned but he didn't know how to handle it, he got karmic backlash?

It's... like I'm watching two episodes, one where Spike takes on too much responsibility without knowing what to do, fails, and needs to be forgiven, and one where he decides to take advantage of his position and needs to be forgiven.

Aw! That was great! At least as good a Spike focus episode as Equestria Games or Inspiration Manifestation. We get a nice little character flaw and a reminder of the dangers of letting helping out turning into helping yourself. This does seem to be a problem that Spike has wrestled with before and it makes me wonder if it is something that he will always wrestle with: That Draconic Greed is like a behavioural illness in humans that can only be fought, never really cured.

Spike was nicely portrayed here and Cadence has an interesting supporting role. This and Three's A Crowd are the only episodes to date that I remember the Pretty Pink Princess Pony being actually shown AS a princess - one of the wisest and strongest ponies in all of Equestria.

We also get some world-building, although it's subtle. We see Equestria is a federation made up of dozens of City-States. These aren't just pony city-states either. There are also Griffon and Donkey settlements that look to Canterlot and the Two Royal Pony Sisters for leadership.

Overall, this was a nice episode that nicely summed up Spike, how he sees his role, how he wants to help and how, in truth, in the end, you can only do your best and try not to forget why you're doing it.

Quote of the Episode:
"Wait? We have an angry mob here that demands satisfaction!"
-- Fancy Pants.

That guy just keeps getting cooler every time I see him! XD

BenRG's Rating: 8/10 - A good, solid and workmanlike episode that shows the degree to which Spike has evolved from the single-dimensional comedy sidekick without the character losing his essential humorous charm.

3165753
That's because it IS reasonable, in this context. Spike's just not old enough to be able to handle that type of responsibility yet, despite what he may want. He's still a pre-teen/teen age child, and just because he's done some great things doesn't mean he has the foresight or judgment abilities to do what he wanted to do this episode. If it was instead the CMC that tried to organize in Twilight's stead, no one would give them the time of day either.

For an episode focused on Fancy Pants, I'm a bit disappointed they dedicated some of the screen time to Spike.
