Story idea... · 3:02am May 23rd, 2015
So I've been playing Metroid Prime lately. I would definitely put it up in my Top 3 Metroid games, alongside Fusion and Super Metroid. Second time I've played the game (first being a few years ago, which I never finished), and the first time I've really paid attention to the Chozo Lore, Pirate Data, Research, etc.
As I play the game, I really admire the game's method of storytelling. There's no overt plot to it at all, and everything plot-related is revealed via this detailed lore you find in the game. I can't help but wonder, how would a written story best emulate that style? With very little exposition, lots of background details, a few "logs" that keep track of the direction the plot is moving, just kinda let the protagonist explore to figure things out.
Sounds like it'd be a pretty cool story idea, if you ask me.
I think so.
Just be sure to specify that the narrative isn't going to be big on characterization via conventional means i.e. dialogue/conversation.
Use flashbacks for your protagonist as a way to get his/her personality across. This gives the character a reason to be exploring where they are and some insight on their motivations.

Or alternatively, make it a sequel to something that already has a character. The original scenario was to link Jack from Starbound with Timaeus kinda like Alfred and Batman as Jack tries to dismantle a USCM that he stumbles upon while running around a random Tallon IV-esque world.
