...they pull me back in again!
After spending several weeks on my novel (making frustratingly slow progress), I have been convinced of the need to take a break and go back to fanfiction before I turn into a miserable bastard. One of my prereaders pitched a story idea to me. He even came up with a clever title. As I started mulling it over and considering where the story might lead, my other prereaders got excited. Like, really excited. And when they're enthusiastic about an idea, that almost always means it's a solid one.
"But Kwakerjak," some of you ask, "you said you were going to return to fanfiction while attempting to write a novel already. Why go for the over-the-top Godfather III reference?"
Well, hypothetical reader... you'll see.
P.S. I've also got a little something something for those of you who rely on me for their oddball music exposure:
I'm not acquainted with all the bands depicted, but I think they do a reasonable job on the ones I am familiar with. Also, I think the Metallica segment lends credence to my theory that the reason "Enter Sandman" is so popular with general audiences is because it's basically a catchy pop song.
Glad to have you back. I hope the decompression helps.
:D
Nothing hypothetical here!
Looking forward to it when you release chapter 1.
That certainly was an enjoyable listen. I felt they did a good job emulating A7X and SOAD. Metallica not so much. Maybe if they picked something else besides Sandman? Sad but True or Master of Puppets perhaps?
3087301 - "Enter Sandman" is the Metallica song that everyone knows, including people who don't normally listen to heavy metal. Most people who aren't familiar with their early work probably consider it to be the definitive Metallica song, despite the fact that many of those who prefer their earlier would protest that it shouldn't be.

Oh no doubt!
My complaint was not so much with the song they chose, but rather the way they delivered it. It sounded less "play Happy in the style of Metallica" and more "wedge Happy in and around Sandman" .
Back on topic...
Are you able to share the tentative title for your next story, or will that be revealing too much?
3087373 - It's still in the outline stage. I don't want readers to get too excited until I'm confident enough in the story to start writing in more detail.
As far as weaving "Happy" around "Enter Sandman" goes, they did that with some of the other bands, too - the Slipknot segment is obviously based on "Duality," for example.
