Pick your poison... · 4:29pm
Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby:
Quick one today.. do you prefer sit-down-service or ala' carte?
The reason I ask is because I've really taken a shine to Thirty Minute Pony Stories and already have some stories on the site.
I also have a few more stories that I've written that are basically "fever dreams". None of them are longer than 3,500 words and I've never bothered to release them.
My question to you is this... would you, dear readers, prefer that I release them all as individual works, or would you like me to place them in a compendium?
There's advantages to each. It's kind of a tempting notion to have one "story" on my site that is just a group of short stories. It would kind of be like a reward for you guys, having a single volume that I update with little stories often and that my Watchers can see updated regularly.
The problem is that it assures that the individual stories never get any note. As I said, they're all short though, so I don't know if you all want your Notifications coming alive and getting all excited to see a new story from me just to find out it's an 800 word sonnet about Pinkie's socks...
So, which works better for you? Me releasing a compendium of my minor works, or releasing each work individually? Pick your poison.
You tell me, I still have no honest idea about what I'm doing. ;)
Stay Awesome,
-T.D.

the compendium would be the better choice
My vote would be put pieces under 1,000 words in a compendium but those over 1,000 publish as individual stories.
Oh, and for my poison I would like potassium cyanide please
Hmm, the compilation idea appeals to me more. It keeps everything together and won't clutter your story list. Plus, if a few are less than 1,000 words, then fimfiction.net won't approve of them.
That's my vote!

I've always been partial to chloroform myself.
I say compendium, just so it's all in one place. If you find something you want to expand upon, you can just make that individual one by itself. Also, I love being spammed with notifications. Not like it ever happens...
If released as a collection, it would leave more room for more awesome stories, so definitely would be better.
I agree with TypewriterError - The shortest ones in a compendium, any you feel could be standalone published alone.
And that Sonnet sounds awe-inspiring.
each indvidual, so every of your watchers get a note about a new story, if people like your short stories, they put you on the watch list, so its a win-win situation for everyone
Compilation, otherwise it would be god awful messy.
Compilation, unless you're just spitting to boost your story count stats. :P
I don't like compilations.
I also say compendium.
I prefer alcohol. Fever dreams in a compendium sounds good. I like many of your one-shots, but I think they would be just as loved bundled together as taken for an individual piece. 3500 is a good cutoff, I think.
I'll be honest.
I enjoy a quick-pick-me-up every once in a while, but when I want to really enjoy my story, I prefer a full out, five course meal, with all the trimmings, and at least a two hour dance session before hand.
I vote for a compendium.
Since we can comment on each "Chapter/Story" seperatly you can
pickup our opinions from the comments rather than from the overall vote-count.

So... no fudge?
Anyway, compendium for me as well - if only to satisfy my OCD of organization.
I'd say 3500 words or above should be individual, but the rest compendium(ed?)
I would have to say compendium as well.
I would typically say that stories under 5,000 words should be completed under the compendium, and those over as standalone. I think that you would have to have a good system of organization in the compendium to work, though. You could always post one that you are particularly fond of or proud of as a standalone as well. (As for my poison, I'll go with nitrogen trichloride)
I'll take teh compendium
Compendium.
compliation please!
Compendium, for sure.
A compendium means they show up in my favorites list, rather than my notifications list. That makes me happy.
I would have set the cutoff between compendium/individual story at around 1,5k words personally.
The overwhelming response seems to be collection though.
TD....I would LOVE an 800 word sonnet about Pinkie's socks. Just saying.
As for the decision. It depends on my mood at the time, and also how much money I have at the moment. Personally, I prefer a sit-down-service mostly because it makes it feel more personal and that they actually care about you. Although that could just be because they want me to tip well. However, I am sure that once I have kids, I will prefer the ala' carte places.
Favorite poison...Hmmm, that's a tough one. Tentatively I am going to have to go with alcohol but that is without sitting down and pondering upon my options.
For your stories, I can see your dilemma about it. Since I can't come to a decision on this, I am just going to go with the neutral response. Whatever you choice decide to go with, I will be happy. Mostly because "
new stories from TD!"
Compendium.
I agree, compendium. Often I'll look at an authors story list, see thirty tiny little blurbs and immediately roll out. It'd be a shame for someone to miss out on Tangled up in Blues or The Somewhere Cycle because they were hidden behind piles of sock sonnets.
And compendium is winning by a landslide
I think that it would be more practical to have them all in one place. Unless you feel some in particular deserve special attention, in which case you can just post those separately.
Would each story be a seperate chapter in the compendum? If so, then people would still be able to get notifications regarding new stories being added. I think a compendum with the stories being individual chapters will be the most appropriate.
Though, I also agree that anything larger than ~1500 words should be posted seperately.
As for my poison, I'll choose iocane powder ... although I have built up an immunity to it ....
I'd go for a compendium.
Arsenic (do to that damn movie.)~ and a compendium sounds good.

That would be the fifth course sugar, that's dessert.
I'd go with the pragmatic solution.
Do both.
Have a compilation post for any stories you have written in a creative explosion.
Any that you think stand out above the rest, or that you want to expand on beyond their original intent, post separately.
Any that turn out to be super popular, you can always unpublish from the compendium and republish as a standalone.

I want to thank everyone who sent me their opinions on this subject. I seem to have some sort of problem with my interface... it seems than more than thirty messages are showing up in a matter of hours for each of my recent journal entries. I must have done something wrong, eh?
Anywho, the clear signal that I'm getting is that, while there are good points on both sides of the question, is that the majority of you, my Loyal Watchers, seem to be more interested in a compendium rather than individual works. Therefore, I believe that is the way I'll go with this.
You now have a duty to me, my Legion of Awesomeness. Your job will be to tell me which, if any, of the works in the compendium deserve to be released as individual stories. Sound good?
Also, I'm sorry to say that the sonnet about Pinkie's socks was meant for illustrative purposes only... though I can perhaps, maybe...
...
>>239370 Sonnet to Pinkie's sock... but that's what I was looking forward to!
Roger wilco!
Fufufu... Can't say I wouldn't mind that sonnet either.
Do you post under the Descendant on the thirty-min stories? I don't recall seeing it. Thanks!
Compendium. If a story is better than others, then links to that specific page will get shared around all word of mouth like and thus the good stories will get the views.
Zipped, rarred, packed, compacted - compendium all the way.

You can count on us.
Compendium please. Oh and I'd like my poison to be Cyanide, with a hint of arsenic.
>>239382>>239435
I'll see what I can do about the sonnet...
...
>>239510
I do! I've only got two stories there at he moment.
