    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

I updated a story, yay... · 5:34pm Apr 30th, 2015

Ugh, chapter 2 of Great Dragon Coronation took way too long to write. What's weird is I'd have these bursts where I wrote like two thousand words at a time, then weeks of nothing. I literally wrote half of it last night, was up until 4 AM. I have no idea why this is happening; I still want to write, and some 22,000 words in a Star Trek fanfic show that I'm still perfectly capable of belting out if I put my mind to it.

It's not writer's block - I have fairly detailed outlines for each of the three stories I'm actively working on (Dalek, Coronation, and Treasure Hunt), it's not a lack of a desire to write, and it's certainly not a flagging interest in pony...

Bone-idle laziness, most likely. That or my recent acquisition of Victoria II. I think I've finally figured the game out; learning its interface was...daunting. Doesn't help that its tutorial sucks.

Think I can make Spain a great power once more? It starts the game as Great Power but losing that status to one of the secondary powers, like the Netherlands, is essentially inevitable. Still, I could probably swallow up Morocco without anyone noticing. Maybe Portugal, too. Delicious, delicious African colonies - and Macau and Hong Kong. Can't forget those. Probably won't do too many military adventures in America, though. Those colonies have gone their own way. Doesn't mean I can't still be friends with Mexico and Colombia, though.

(I plan to play through a game as Spain to have a Second Spanish Empire, then a game as Ethiopia, Sokoto, or Zulu to make an African great power)

I know that feeling all too well. I know what I wanna write for Twilight the Terrible. Why haven't I written it yet?

I think we've all felt that one, man. Want to write, have plans made for story... oh, hey, look, a video game! For me my anti-writing poison of the past couple of weeks has been Pillars of Eternity. It's pure nostalgic crack for any fans of the old Baldur's Gate games.

What is Victoria II?

Computer game. Short version: You pick a nation that existed in 1836 and go. It can be literally any nation that was sovereign at the time, from the Great Powers of Britain, France, or Russia, to the secondary powers of Sardinia-Piedmont, Portugal, or Mexico, to the local sovereign nations like Tuscany or Bavaria or Oranje, to uncivilized giants like Japan, China, or Persia, to even tiny little nations like Hawaii or Bali, or transitory nations like the Republic of Texas.

I also have one of the expansions, A House Divided, that allows you to instead start in 1861 and, among other things, select to be the Confederate States of America.
