I Don't Always Read the Comics but, When I Do, They Feature Twilight and Spike

Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby,

First, let me start off by saying how much I've appreciated the support and compassion of so many people during my long, long recovery. I'm most grateful, and it has been a bright spot for me as my long weeks of isolation here in my home have slowly gone by.

Summer Ends: The Finale of Gravity Falls

Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby,

Every once in a while I get to stand an applaud as the credits roll to a television show. Futile, of course, as I'm the only one there to hear it, but I do it because it deserves to be applauded.

This evening was one of those nights.

    New Comic: "Away"

Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby:

Stainless Key and I have just finished a new collaboration—which is to say that she finished making the vision that we shared come to pass. This time, it was Key's turn to come up with the concept... and boy, was it a Duesy!

"Doomed" Watch & Discuss · 12:10am Apr 27th, 2015

Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby:

Doomed is an absurdist work that takes the modus operandi of being the discarded pilot of a new nature series hosted by a supposedly famed, award-winning naturalist who goes unnamed through the show. In this show, we meet such largely un-noted creatures as the Cube Fish, Inverse Hedgehogs, Coral Parrots, and others who all display unique evolutionary traits that have almost certainly doomed their species to a quick and merciful extinction.

Produced by a small Spanish animation studio, it won a bunch of awards in 2011 at animation conventions that I've never heard of.

I have watched the video about three times today. I don't really know why. I can't say that it is super-funny, but there are moments that keep playing in my head. I have always been a fan of absurdism, as those of you who follow my comedies know, and I can't help but wonder what your thoughts on the video may be.

So, Doomed... watch and discuss!

Stay Awesome,

That's what you get for making animals out of food, I guess.

Their lives are truly Sisyphean struggles.

Evolution is practical. It weeds out anything that does not add a distinct advantage/anything that does not make them easier to deep-fry.:raritywink:

3020167
I belong to a special caste of people whose minds look like this all he time without having to resort to artificial means. I don't know if I should be proud of that or terrified.

3020168
Indeed... not long, though!:twilightsheepish:

Truly a masterpiece of our time.

I disagree. Anything that features a tower of poop is super-funny. :D

Am I tripping? was I supposed to be high for that? Wha... what was the point of that. I feel like this was trying to tell me something. Is this an actual series or does it end there? I just... I... hold on........... okay, taking a sobriety test I'll get back to you.:ajbemused:

Just awesome.

I'm particularly fond of the inside-out porcupine. They are so cute when they sneeze! Too bad they can only do it once.

The narrator sort of sounds like James May from Top Gear.

Have to say, not feeling this one.

I mean, it's not bad or anything, but it didn't resonate with me. Perhaps because, as a life-and-unlife-long fan of both natural history and of fantasy/alien bestiaries, it seemed... Yeah. Wasteful of potential? More absurdist than natural history? I dunno.

I guess it is probably that I so much prefer seeing this sot of thing explored it at least some attempt at detial that it just... failed to gel.

What if you really really don't like absurdism? I hate Dadaism with a vengeance, so hopefully what you consider absurd isn't at that level of postmodernism.

ETA: That is not to say that I don't like absurdity, but being absurd should not be the point of your work. It can work very well as a premise, especially with the "Straight Man" reacting to it(See also: Atomic Robo), but deliberately not making sense at any level makes me think of the author as a cackling lunatic spitting in the faces of anyone who believes in Goodness, Truth, and Beauty.

This was interesting and disturbingly funny at the same time. I truly enjoyed it! What in the world does that say about me?!

And... NOPE. The 3d modeling is ugly, likely on purpose. The premise is stupid, likely on purpose. It has gore and gross-out at the most shocking timing, again, on purpose.

Dr. Seuss and Steve Irwin got together, dropped some acid, and then had Roald Dahl draw and animate their interpretive dance sessions.

In other words, the hell did I just watch? Fun stuff though, certainly.

And the Darwin Award goes to...

I watched this at least twice, I enjoyed it so much. Thank you for the find!

And the Darwin Award goes to...

Everything...

This reminds me of someone running amok with Spore's Creature Creator...
(Isn't nature facinating?)
:yay:

I am certainly in the same "absurdism is not my cuppa" camp as 3020286 and 3020289 here. Too much snark and random for randomness' sake for my taste. Far better in my opinion had they played it entirely straight, with maximum "ha ha, only serious" humour.

Such creatures indicate artificiality.

I wonder if anyone else here can identify with the male coral parrot, or is it just me?
Anyway, I thought this was very entertaining. Thanks for sharing it!

That was a very interesting video. I was more than a bit reminded of cartoonist Andrew Bell.

Anyway, I have now I upgraded from Confused Passerby to Interested Visitors and am hoping to move up in the ranks. :pinkiecrazy:

This sure was...welll...something...I guess.

I'm not sure what that something exactly was, but whatever it was it had its funny moments but another something was missing to feel really complete for me.
I particulary like the ca...uh, that-blue-thingy that looked like it was sneezed by Picasso and purred...and, uhm, this crab-dog/dog-crab could be the only crustacean that Rarity wouldn't fight...probably, I think.

Looks like a 3D animation 101 final project.
...
Ok, maybe 102.

Those poor creatures. Life finds a way indeed. :fluttershbad:

We all have our own standards of quality, I guess.

It ends here, but I'd be perfectly happy if there was a sequel.:twilightsheepish:

Reminds me of that joke about the performer who blows himself up on stage.:pinkiehappy:

Appropriate enough, as he could certainly use the work now that The Gorilla ended thats how for us.:raritydespair:

It means we share a sense of humor. That fact should scare you.:pinkiehappy:

3020335
I'd pay for photos of such a get-together.

3020486
I'm glad that I was able to share it with everyone.:rainbowlaugh:

3020914
I can! I've spilled my guts for plenty of women just to have them run off on me...

3020930
Huzzah! You're workin' on up!:twilightsheepish:

3021995
It certainly was very basic, but I thought it was a fun little romp.

3023414
I fear not because I share it with one whom I am proud to follow and call a friend.

We crazy folks have to stick together, you know!? The others are out to get us!

That was hilarious! :rainbowlaugh:

And utterly predictable. :rainbowderp:

(That was some good intelligence put into making those designs as stupid as possible.)

True on both accounts, but a fun little romp either way.:twilightsheepish:
